Made a really good play tonight, correctly called against the naked A flush bluff (aka a blush) with naked K flush blocker and wrap and 2p and called river with bare straight, he in fact had dry A no flush as I thought. Made $550 or so and called it an early night as I have a busy day tomorrow. Eating lots of foods that promote good sleep like banana almonds and salmon and drinking herbal tea to get a good early night's rest for my clients (and for me). Let's hope for a good judge!

Congrats on the last couple wins. I am all in with you on bananas, almonds and salmon for good sleep. I also find that walnuts are good at helping me relax. I do herbal teas sometimes too.

They really helped me fall asleep! I tend to fall asleep later than I did last night so it was super helpful not to be awake worrying about not getting enough sleep. I don’t miss those nights at all. And the wake up in the morning on 5-6 hours of sleep was always dreadful and having to be ready for court…the worst. I’m glad I made this adjustment for my own well being.

Got the one client out I thought I had a chance with, and with a very tough judge at that. The other one attacked another patient the day of the hearing, so yeah...lost that one.

I'll take it. Yippie!

Case #1: All in with top set vs a wrap and flush draw and held!
Case #2: Were card dead but fought valiantly

Lol. Poker went well after work, won at 5/10 running well in general getting good hands. Got to bed early again which was nice.

I think it would be cool to write a screenplay for a show or movie about psych wards, like the series "orange is the new black" but for mentally disabled people confined in psychiatric units. They would have stories and personalities and it would humanize people with mental illness. Could even have roles for the judges and lawyers and psychiatrists and nurses. I have a call wit

I know it is not a television show, or movie, but I highly suggest reading Victor Lavalle's The Devil in Silver. Its a book about a person who 'wakes up' in a mental institution and discusses his experiences meeting the staff, and fellow patients. If what I have read online is true, then AMC is attempting to turn the book into the the third season of its 'The Terror' anthology' series.

That’s super cool. I wonder how realistic his depiction is and if he had personal experience to draw from.

Session was very slow and uneventful, except for the fact that I was seated at the same table as this chick who goes out of her way to try to piss me off. Last night I added on after losing a pot and she asked me how much I was playing and I just ignored her snarky butt. She doubled up through me and started talking about how much she likes beating me and thanked the dealer. Lol. Anyway I just ignored her and stacked her later with top set against her two pair when she jammed over my bet and absolutely made her show first even though I had the nuts. Honestly I should have just table changed so as not to be around her energy, there were better plo games around. Made $40.

After interviews looking forward to the weekend.

She deserved it -- so glad you had the opportunity. Yes, it's petty, but sometimes it's worth it!

A win is a win! $40 will pay for your gas to/from the casino and a quick dinner on the way home

Last night I was so tilted I could not play 10/10 plo because I am “banned” that I bluffed too much at hold em. Made a come back at the end at 10/25 but ended up losing a couple grand on the session.

Had a dream a dealer mucked my aces when I was all in preflop. That was terrible.

Played mix most of the day which ran overnight. Was pretty card dead. Did play one interesting badugi hand where I ended up breaking a smooth 9 against a cap pre and on first draw and lost against a worse 9 and a T. Played a little plo and ran bad losing wrap fd and two pair to nfd and top set and AAK to KK all in pre.

Coming up on my one year anniversary of this job - wow! Glad I toughed it out and made it this far.

At 10/25 I sat down with my mix stack (which I quit as I was getting bored) which was around $1, 100 and before I got a chance to play a hand someone barked “$1, 500 minimum” from across the table. I said I hadn’t gotten a chance to get my chips yet and was playing $3k. I said the guy who was being a dk was anal and a asshle and told the dealer to ignore him (side note this guy mucked his cards towards me angrily a couple weeks ago after I simply raised pre…that type).

He then said he wasn’t going to let me leech with my short stack ..?? I was like for real? I have a job and dignity and contribute to society during the day buddy. Mind you the table min is $1, 500 and I had double that now.

Anyway I wasn’t about to play with someone like that so I went back to the mix with my friends and had a good time. Then a chronically disrespectful dealer accused me of “cheating” on time and I called his butt out for that as I had paid time at 10/25 and it was the same down. Same dealer has told players they could be robbed on their way home and he makes a lot of mistakes. Yeesh. Glad I’m a lawyer on days like these. Live poker is the nut low sometimes.

Haven’t you been playing at the same casino every single day for like the last 10 years, clocking in 20000 hours? Cant imagine why both players and dealers would treat a seasoned pro and long time reg with such contempt if he didn’t already have a history of being a leech and gaming the system

If you had not been dealt in yet that a-hole should of shut his trap! I wouldn’t have left after putting up 3k though now there gonna say your scared to play with 3k to prove there point. F them

Played some plo and 5/10 made $800 then watched the super bowl with mixed game friends and got an early night sleep. No hearings today just postponements so hopefully everyone gets discharged before next week and no one is committed.

Lost at 2/5 and 5/10 but won it all back at mix, biggest pot was AKKQ2 in big o flopping top set backdoor nut low draw and chopping it up. Also made a wheel in 2-7 triple draw and scooped that one after starting with 345, drawing 7, then 2 on the second to last draw was perfect lol. Client interviews today and a lighter than normal docket. Guess the hospitals are so tired of losing at hearings to me…!

Last night my bluffs got called (a trend lately) but I won some at plo for a small loss. Also lost AKs to 99 all in pre for 150 bb on both run outs to a euro pro. :/ No hearings today again!

Gonna exercise and get some sun take care of myself.

Last night ran good at plo and hold em, made around $2k and then off to early sleep for early wake up for six month training reunion with my class of lawyers. Chocolate lattes now then a drive in traffic to the office (bleh!). Will be fun to see familiar faces at least and hear how people are doing.

Won AA on 663 three ways in a 3! pot no one had a six somehow, won stand up game a few times at 5/10, last hand to win I got ATo in bb over a raise and a call from sb (who I had to beat who incidentally has put a bounty on my head if anyone stacked me in the past) and I shipped $800 and got called by the original raiser only with a bad hand he said and I scooped.

Training was long and draining along with a two way hour plus drive through traffic. Totally exhausted by the end of the day.

Playing a little pokee to decompress so far lost with bottom set once multi-way and AA sorta slow session so far. Being with my colleagues in person was nice. It’s tough when most of your interactions are with poker players. Being in the office was a breath of fresh air. I might do it more often.

Mock hearing where I played the biased judge was hilarious. Got a lot of laughs.

One of my favorites was saying I was writing the order of commitment after the state finished their opening statement and typing on my phone during the defense’s closing argument and when she inquired, saying I had dinner plans and I was just texting my wife. We had a great time.

Poker was sorta slow, at plo was winning but ended up losing top two to bottom set and top two to top and bottom. Played mix a little and the same thing happened, won in the beginning and ended up losing a little. Got to play 5/5/25/50 a little and nothing really happened, 3! J9875ds and a tight player called me and jammed with a wheel on 234 with my fd and I let it go against this exact player. Sometime he’ll have set or straight no flush draw but other times we are in much worse shape. Won and lost some waterfalls and left to get some sleep stuck a few hundo.

Won $1k or so, a bluff didn’t get through but I won the stand up / nit game a few times. Got dinner with a poker acquaintance and talked about borderline personality disorder a topic I have enough experience with by now from a couple clients. dating came up and it was awkward because I never know who to come out to and I didn’t this time I just kept it vague. Very congested and tossed and turned last night from this annoying cold. My nose will not stop running.

Last night got into a fun organized 2/5/10 5/5/15 hold em plo4 mix with some of the plo5 regulars and had a good time. Even ran good, got lucky with AA v AA (mine were worse) all in pre and JJ held three ways for a nice pot on 874T2 runout versus a bluff and A7 when I x/called flop and river.

Today loading up the vapor rub which helped a lot last night as well with my sinuses which have been bad due to the cold.

Dumbo, with all due respect - It’s not cool of you to go play poker when you’re so sick and your nose will not stop running. There are some immunocompromised people who work at the casino and you’re putting them at risk. Were you blowing your nose at the table all night and getting snot on the cards? I’m glad to hear you had a good time and won some monies to make it worthwhile though.
