Hope you and the family are doing well — how’s poker been going since becoming a dad?

It ebbs and flows. I think my last session was September or October. It less about parenting and more about the amount of work I’ve had.

what next we're going to ban watching porn during scanning as well?

also... i've always had a huge crush on her but this is an amazing photo of her in the article

Porn is allowed during the scan so long as the athlete continues watching it during their run.

How has your tolerance for counterparty risk (casino withholding, getting paid, funds security, site risk) evolved over time, and has managing that uncertainty generally been worth it for you? Curious if having a family shifted that perspective at all. When you’ve decided to bankroll or work with people in the past, what were some of the key things you looked for early on? Any m

1. Online gambling was not a thing prior to my daughters birth. That being said once my daughter was born providing a stable life for my kid became a my focus. From 92-96 I was spending most of my winters in Europe. She was born in the fall of 96 and by summer of 97 I had put into place the base of what would become the black jack team.

In terms of risk mgmt with on line, when black friday came around I was lazy. I saw all the signs and did not act. I wound up getting most of my money back but it was a pain in the ass, inconvenient, and I felt stupid for failing to act. Generally when I am putting a play down on line there is a ramp up phase where I am ok with a certain amt getting locked up. As I move through the ramp up and have started taking $ off the table the amt im willing to have taken goes up.

2. When im bankrolling people I am looking for the same qualities that you see in generally successful people. Teachable, a do whatever it takes attitude to be their personal best, commitment to excellence, success at a prior activity, and character.

When building a large organization there is going to be an absolute ton of compromise. Everyone has their own ideas of what is going to work best. I/we made an absolute ton of mistakes when growing the team. Without getting too into deatail many could have been avioded (weak personnel) but some just have to be learned (preparing new personnel with zero casino experience how to perform in a high pressure environment where table limits are being wagered). This is the soft aspect of training. Getting down under pressure...lots and lots of fcuk ups

My kid went to the winter school (winter athletes go to school from april to november and have all winter to compete in their sport). Her best pal was spoda be muricas next sweetheart in womens ski jumping. Womens just got olympic inclusion and she dominated. Making the us team in any sport takes an insane amt of work/sacrifice. Ski jumping is kind of next level like gymnastics. They had to be insanely strong while being extremely underfed and overworked with a high likelyhood of injury. Im not sure of how many surgeries she had but it was way too many and she never had her olympic glory and she was as close to a sure thing as I have seen. The whole point is there is a tiny window of opportunity and a decent likelyhood that even with 100% preparedness the winter sport gods will frown upon you. Soooo having the dong injections so yer suit creates a little more lift sounds highly likely.

many of the niche winter sports have some kind of wacky scandal where someone is trying to create a little edge

this would be the 2nd crotch gate this year for ski jumping

Thanks for your thoughts, I truly know next to nothing about winter sports and what it takes to win outside of the typical qualities that any top athlete must possess: insane drive, talent, ability to conquer fear, etc.

My law firm is piloting an AI agent from one of the major legal research companies. It's surprisingly good - I can feed documents and ask it to draft a legal notice or a complaint based on the source documents and the work it spits out is like 70% of the way finished. Basically a mid-level paralegal quality.

Too early to say for sure but this could change everything.

Yesterday I just skipped my lawyers all together and had chat gpt draft a contract

Umm. It was for ski jumping! Yeah, this was the only way to get the next size.

Yeah I've read horror stories coming out of corporate counsel. "One of the employees told me, we had chat gpt write the contract, and I think it signed for me. Is that a problem?"

I saw a prop bet, Length of National Anthem vs total passing yards from one QB.

That’s true. I am mostly here to troll “BigSkip”. But when someone gives me a layup, I will take it.

I should have watched the puppy bowl instead.

When you’re in a reflective or ruminating mood, are you ever open to sharing the bigger realizations that actually pushed you to commit to this path?

Also, on the practical side: WSOP, March Madness, Super Bowl weekends, and holidays of course tend to be great times to log serious hours. Any other patterns you’ve found over the years—time of day, time of year, or even table dynamics?

And one more thing I’ve been curious about: do you generally try to build rapport with dealers and staff? In LA it feels pretty cutthroat, but Vegas is oddly more relaxed, where that would be more natural like most other places.

also how did you and spc meet? i love her!

1. Out of college I got a job working at an investment bank in nyc. After working there for a year I watched my younger brothers 6 month descent into a full psychotic break which resulted in schizoaffective. He was a significantly better version of me in all aspects. This hit me pretty hard and I realized how fragile life is and I took stock on exactly what I wanted. Being a cog whose sole purpose was accumulating $ was simply not for me and I wanted to pursue action and adventure. I got into gamboolin as a lark. Sadly at this point I have only spoken to my brother 2 or 3 times over the past 20+ years

2. In pokerz I have found most of the $ comes from providers. Games r gunna be the best when there are ample providers. Big holidays / events and when people are making bad choices (late at night when booze is flowing). For me prosonally I found that playing super late messes with my life balance so I tried to stick to a more balanced schedule

3. I personally want my work environment to be pleasant. I do my best to be respectful to all casino personnel as well as my opponents.

How much time are you spending on the road these days? I found solo road play/travel to be some of the hardest times.

How is your focus split between poker and other ap?

Keep crushing my man!!

Eta - SPC and I met at the poker tables of las vegas. She has not played poker for a while but still keeps her hand on the pulse of the game.

Squiddy, are you and SPC in full retirement mode or do you have hustles / plans of some sort?

I'm on my second year of semi-retirement / reduced work hours, can see myself reducing even more next year, and perhaps even getting rid of my job altogether sooner than I expected... although waffling on it.
