Suitedjustice's Ongoing Mid-life Crisis

I woke up in the middle of choking to death again; though to be accurate, it was towards the end of the process--woke up

Thanks for sharing these pics. Very nice and soft.

How do you make sure that the cat is not shipped by mistake?

It's illegal to sell pussy over the state lines.

Ask P Diddy.

I want two bunnies, but I know that I don't have the sticktuitiveness to raise them properly.

The owners used to have a German Shepherd who would surreptitiously drop her chew toys into boxes that also contained parts to ship out, and we may not have caught all of them. I know that a few of the toys went missing.

Thanks for reminding me: I hadn't posted this yet this winter.

I'd like to propose an exemption for kitties. This is the Internet, after all.

This actually happened.

In April 2024, a Utah couple accidentally shipped their pet cat, Galena, to an Amazon fulfillment center in California.

Key Details of the Incident:
The Accident: Galena, a 6-year-old shorthair who loved hiding in boxes, jumped into a large "try before you buy" return package filled with steel-toed work boots. Her owners, Carrie and Matt Clark, sealed and shipped the box without realizing she was inside.

The Journey: The cat survived six days in the box without food or water, traveling over 600 miles from Lehi, Utah, to an Amazon return facility in Riverside (Jurupa Valley), California.

The Rescue: An Amazon employee named Brandy Hunter discovered Galena while processing returns. Miraculously, a split seam in the box had provided enough oxygen, and mild weather prevented the cat from overheating or freezing.

The Reunion: Because Galena was microchipped, a California veterinarian was able to identify her and contact the Clarks. The couple flew to California the next day to retrieve her and drove the 10 hours back home to Utah.

She does have a bit of the rebel in her. Hopefully she'll keep the death count below the last Boxer Rebellion.

Cat found in shipping container from China on road to recovery in St. Paul
By Ray Campos
Updated on: October 10, 2025 / 6:57 PM CDT / CBS Minnesota

A cat that accidentally traveled from China to Minnesota inside a shipping container is now adjusting to life in the United States, and may soon be ready for adoption.

"It's actually amazing she survived that journey, and we are not 100% sure how she did it," said Kerry D'Amato, executive director of Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota. "Three weeks without food or water, she would not be alive. She must have been drinking condensation, maybe eating bugs and rodents there."

After a three-week, 8,000-mile journey from China, the feline was found in a shipping container in Oakdale, Minnesota. WCCO first met this cat in June at Northwoods Humane Society in Wyoming, Minnesota.

After her rescue and short-term living at Northwoods Humane Society, the cat was placed in the care of Pet Haven in St. Paul, Minnesota. The animal rescue organization is the state's oldest.

"When she arrived to us, she was deathly thin and very ill," D'Amato said. "She would charge at us, hiss and lunge. Today, she chirps at us and comes out when we call her. Her eyes are bright, her ears are forward, she is giving us all the indications she is trusting."

Named Xiao Mao, meaning "little cat" in Mandarin Chinese, part of the success of the cat's rehabilitation is thanks to Pet Haven's Wallflowers Program.

On Friday morning, my colleague climbed on top of a 16' (5m) high shelving unit and—seeing that I spotted her and believing that she was in trouble—jumped all the way down to the bare concrete floor, and skittered off.

It looked bad; most humans would be lucky to get away with just a broken leg or arm on that fall. I tried finding her in the warehouse, but she was hiding, maybe because she was in pain.

I returned to the office, grabbed her bag o' snacks, and shook it, and she came running, no worse at all for the wear.

Snowing today again, so no casino; however, I won $300 yesterday on a $109 ticket I'd won on an ACR freeroll.

I'm pretty damn short on money, so I turned that $300 into Bitcoin, sold it, and deposited $291 into my checking account after some fairly reasonable fees.

Tomorrow, I intend to play some live poker...wait, let me check the weather...okay looks like whatever is going on will die out by tomorrow morning, so let's gooooo.

Just a quick and dirty survey. I'm sure there are plenty I've missed.

Fairly reasonable fees itt. Btw, do you bank with ticketmaster?

Loved Kids in the Hall. I haven't watched the new reboot. I'll have to put that on my list.

If humanity lives long enough, Yellowstone will kill off a good chunk of it.

The Brits knew how to keep their comedies short and sweet. The original Office: 14 episodes, Spaced: 14 episodes, Blackadder: 24 episodes, Fawlty Towers (one borderline personality shouting at people): 12 episodes.

3% isn't terrible for an instant transfer from the site to a Bitcoin wallet, and a 1-3 day transfer from the wallet to my checking account, when the bad old days of wondering if we'd ever see those poker funds were not very long ago.

Today I cooked a frozen pizza and tried adding tater tots as a topping. They are unwieldy—too roly poly for a topping, and they don't add anything to the taste; however, picked off the pizza, they made for a good appetizer. Something about hitching a ride on the pizza made them taste better than normal.

One year into my modest 5 day a week exercise program:

Started with 6 push-ups, now doing 42. I've been stuck on that number for at least a month, but it's not a bad number. Readers of The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy will remember that 42 is the answer to life, the Universe and everything.

The reason I've been stuck is likely that I've gained a small amount of weight since I started drinking again, and I've learned from experience that a pound or two (0.4 kg to 0.9 kg) adds up when being multiplied by 40+ reps.

I will reverse this for a while starting on the 20th of this month—the vernal equinox—when I quit drinking for the spring under my seasonal drinking scheme. Hopefully I'll lose some weight and power on with my push-up count.

Started with 10 bicycle crunches, now doing 59. I feel that this has done little for my belly; I should have taken before pictures, then maybe I'd see more of a difference. At best, I went from looking like a superimposition of Spongebob and a Bartlett pear to looking a little more like a washed-up power lifter.

Started a 30-second plank a few months ago at the suggestion of a kind reader, now up to 2 minutes and 10 seconds. A plank can make 2 minutes seem like a very long time. There's a sex joke in there somewhere.

Started with 5 second stretches, now up to 40 seconds. One stretch started as a simple hammy stretch but has turned into a quest to do a Jean-Claude Van Damme split. I saw the man do one of these on his (not great) TV show when he was 57. It's been slow going. My crotch is still around 2 feet (61 cm) off the ground at full stretch. We'll see where I'm at in another year, when I'll be 57.

This whole routine takes me a long time; I take long breaks in between exercises. I can't say that I'm happy with the results. Middle age, a less-than-perfect diet, and drinking are all tough on the physique. Some of these are factors that I could change, but a good diet requires money and committment, two things that I lack. I'll fix the drinking for half the year, at least.

The jury's still out on this, and by all appearances they're taking an extended sabbatical.
