President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
I think this will wind down sooner than later. There's zero chance China will allow them to shut down the Straight since they're highly reliant on Gulf oil. And it's literally economic suicide for the Iranians since their economy is completely dependant on that oil revenue. As to the drone swarm, sure that's an issue but only short-term. At the end of the day you still need a pr
Traffic through the strait is already very low, especially LNG tankers which is pretty much at zero. Which is not a surprise, those things are scary even in calm seas and peacetime. There are some oil tankers which have sailed, but several have been attacked and hit, with injured and one death reported as a result - so expect oil tanker traffic to crawl to halt as well.
The problem with the Strait of Hormuz is in the name. It is long and narrow, making it difficult to fully cover for a defender and makes ships easy to attack for an aggressor. And since we are talking cargo ships and tankers, which are slow moving, cumbersome and not built for war - even small and simple attacks can pose a large threat.
The somewhat surprising attacks on the port of Duqm in Oman (Oman can in western terms can best be described as "the Switzerland of the middle east") and also the not so surprising attack on an oil tanker sailing off Muscat are very likely meant as a clear signal to operators that maritime traffic is not safe on the western side of the straight either.
For the strait at least we have reliable information, as information there is for the most part openly available and readily reported. So, it is likely the best "temperature" gauge we got for this conflict, everything else for now is very opaque.

Q: how long can Iran realistically keep that up?
A: how long will China put up with an additional billion dollars a day added to their oil import bill?
At any rate, I think one of the main factors driving a lot of the stupidity is the neocon's insistence on total victory and Iran and their proxies unwillingness to accept defeat.

I don't think China's influence over that will be very impactful. The regime likely sees keeping the strait traffic down as one its very few ways to gain (perhaps only) international leverage, and subsequently as a key element to their own survival.
We will have to see how oil and gas prices adjust after the initial market panic dissipates and is replaced with realistic assessment to see what that leverage will actually amount to.

It is not a war led by smart or trustworthy people on any of the sides, that is for sure. That said, smart people have made plenty of mistakes in the chain of events that have led to this moment as well.
They've done massive war simulations of war with Iran. Iran wins. What part of that don't you understand? I mean war games costing 100s of millions of dollars in which the U.S. was given artificial advantages. Here is the AI overview:If you didn't know about this then you should ask yourself why you have this smug confidence in your outlook. We cannot invade Iran with ground tro

The Trump administration has abandoned its appeals related to his executive orders against law firms. I hope the law firms that bent the knee are proud of their disgraceful capitulation.

The Trump administration on Monday abandoned its attempts to impose potentially crippling executive orders against law firms that refused to capitulate to the president, walking away from its appeal of victories the firms had won against the White House.
With a brief due this week, Justice Department lawyers told the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia that they were no longer interested in pursuing the cases and were voluntarily asking the court to dismiss them.
The decision is the White House’s most significant acknowledgment that the executive orders cannot be successfully defended in court. The move is particularly striking given that some firms opted to reach deals in a bid to head off executive orders that President Trump’s Justice Department said it would no longer stand behind.
This is just too much for me, Deuces. Your advanced US military wisdom such as your belief of droned commercial airliners flying into the WTC with such explosive technology causing avalanches of molten steel and the well timed detonation of building 7 will magically be at the mercy of a 25-year-old war game with "unconventional tactics" such as motorcycle couriers and small boa
Right? When it suits his position, the US had directed energy weapons and commercial airline drones at their disposal 25 years ago and could collapse buildings with the world watching and not realising what happened. But when it doesn't, the US can't win a war on the ground in Iran. Lol.

Dedicated conspiracy theorists always want it all the ways. When it suits the theory, the government, military, intelligence, etc. are hypercompetent and able to maintain conspiracies that are unimaginably vast and complex. But when it suits the theory, they also are incapable of producing a convincing fake of a still photo.
The thing they always get wrong is the sheer number of people involved in the conspiracy and not one ever breaks ranks and says something. Pretty much impossible.

Oh, Deuces has that covered. Everyone is afraid of losing their jobs if they speak the truth. Me, Trolly, ed'a, Gorgo, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, all afraid of losing our jobs. Or something like that.

Deuces has that covered too. He's not the conspiracy theorist, we all are, because we believe all the stuff the CIA tells us, because if we don't, we'll lose our jobs. Or something like that.
Can’t wait for Blahblah the bank teller to show up and let us know that this war is actually great news for the economy and long term deflationary and we just need the war the last a few decades before we can properly judge it

What are the chances a nuke (suitcase or otherwise) goes off somewhere in the world within the next 3 years?
"We're going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don't want anything to do with Spain," the US president said.
Rapist truly hates the word ''no''.
Higher than you probably think though.

The price of crude oil , gained nearly 8% on Tuesday to above $83 per barrel, the highest since July 2024, taking gains since Friday to more than 15%, and the European wholesale price for natural gas was up a punishing 40%.
Trump said on Tuesday that as soon as the war ended, "those prices are going to drop I believe lower than even before".

I don't follow much of the day to day politics. But reading a few comments from Rubio, I'm thinking he's kind of positioning himself as an alternative to Vance.
