3v3 Codenames
here were 6 items in your list. Here they are in random order:

Our list was three.
We need three.
He clued unlimited
I don't see how this CAN be anything but 1 + the rest of the list.
And the answer to your question is tick. The clock does make noise; it's a flip clock. And it comes up over, and over again. I don't recall if they add foley to make the clock tick or not.
To me it's the best clue here.
I certainly don't see TWO good words here. The theater is pretty incidental to the movie. As is the money.

I can quote my post if you want.
Or you can just bold whatever.
I’m not up for arguing established endgame convention that has been championed harder by no one more than our spymaster.

The question isn’t whether tick is the best word for the clue. It’s if the clue is unmistakably for that word and that word alone. Do you think “Groundhog Day” is the best clue to get tick and only tick?
So what precisely is your alternative plan to mine, then? Precisely how many Groundhog Day words are meant here?
If you know exactly what he means, enlighten me.
I have seen this movie dozens of times, just watched it again last month, and I literally don’t see a single word that connects. It also feels like this means 2+1, with the 2nd on the list (embassy) being the +1. No way is this a clue for just one word on the board. But I have absolutely no idea which two words it could be.
State is best (“once again the eyes of the nation have turned to this tiny village in western Pennsylvania, blahblahblahblahblah”), but state is out.
He goes to a movie with a date at some point (“I told you, call me Bronco.”). So, theater works.
The alarm clock is a main character in the film. So, tick works.
I am trusting the clue, which is why I’m never guessing fence.
With three left:
n-1 = 2+top of list
unlimited = 2+2nd on list
n = neither 1st nor 2nd on list
In very rare instances, unlimited can mean 1+run the list. In order for this to be true, the clue has to unmistakably be a 1-clue.
Which single word on this board do you think is unmistakably best clued by “Groundhog Day?”
.
I'm not bolding anything if my team isn't interested in playing.
But seriously, what would you actually bold here? You shot down mine but I'm not seeing a counter proposal
Sorry man, I’m not trying to be snarky, but are you reading my posts?
State is best (“once again the eyes of the nation have turned to this tiny village in western Pennsylvania, blahblahblahblahblah”), but state is out.
He goes to a movie with a date at some point (“I told you, call me Bronco.”). So, theater works.
The alarm clock is a main character in the film. So, tick works.
I will say, however, that I overstated state being out.
There’s no mechanism in the endgame to determine definitely whether 3rd+ on the list is good or not.
So, getting an unlimited clue and our list being:
Fence
Embassy
State
Means to me that fence is 100% out (we agree) and embassy is 100% in (we agree).
I also think Groundhog Day is not a straightforward clue for just one of the words on the board, so it has to be for two (we disagree).
If clock were on the board instead of tick, I’d be 100% in the 1+2 camp, but that would also mean that fence is good.
So it’s actually a good thing that Groundhog Day doesn’t clearly fit one word. Because, if it did, then we would HAVE to bold fence. Nich knows this, which is why he didn’t just clue one word.
Now the question is: which two words on the board for Groundhog Day? I only see three:
Tick
Theater
State
All that to say, I’m fine with state, but not for the same reason you are, based on your posting yesterday. I don’t think state could be ours because we were given an unlimited clue. I think state could be ours because Groundhog Day is for two words.
Does that better help explain where I’m coming from? I’m truly not trying to be dismissive or antagonistic. I’m trying to stick to conventions that have been championed by Nich himself.
I am. I don't see anywhere where you give a final answer.
Not, what are you fine with? If you were bolding righ tnow, what are you bolding?
You didn't like my answer. What's your answer? We can't meet in the middle any where if I don't know where you're actually at.
I’ve literally quoted a post twice now that said what I’d bold (tick and theater).
My latest post backed off of that as a firm stance for the reason I stated.
I am lost as to how you “don’t know where I’m actually at” and am starting to wonder if you’re just being purposefully difficult for some reason.
Titanic - 4
The Hangover - 5
Hacksaw Ridge - 3
Argo - unlimited
The Stars and Stripes Forever - 2
Apple
Bug
Embassy
Fence
File
Millionaire
Nail
Paste
State
Theater
Tick
Ship
Vet
Day
Eagle
Flute
Church
Hollywood
Needle
Pyramid
Trunk
Antarctica
Ring
Cross
Mount
We needed five for The Hangover, and pretty sure we’re there.
For Argo, which neither of us have ever seen, we know it’s about spies pretending to make a movie in a foreign (middle eastern?) country.
For Groundhog Day, I think we need two. You think we need one. So, not sure what we do with that.
But, of the words left, I think the following fit best:
Tick (the clock)
Theater (the date)
State (the setting)
We also have to consider the opposing clues. Hacksaw Ridge (which I’ve never seen) is about a WWII battle between US and Japan. Because the eastern conflict during WWII is referred to as the “Pacific Theater,” I am concerned about that word. We know it fits red and we know it kind of fits us.
If we’d seen Argo, we’d know if there was a bomb at some point (tick). I don’t know how much action there is in the movie, but since it’s a spy flick, I don’t hate the assumption there could’ve been some sort of explosion at some point.
That leaves state. State fits Argo enough (which you explained earlier), and fits Groundhog Day arguably better than either tick or theater.
So, if I were forced to bold three words right now, I guess I’m on:
Embassy
State
Tick
My mind could change as soon as I click submit, but that’s where I am right now I guess.
It's just very frustrating to me when you hedge and tell me to bold whatever I want.
So tick, theater, state?
Oh cross posted. 😀
embassy
state
tick
Hmm.
Theater is definitely on the table for them, particularly in a WWII context, I agree. And it felt weak for me regarding Groundhog Day.
I did like both of those for a spy movie.
So this basically has the unlimited at literally one. Which was your reasoning all along.
Valid.
Embassy
State
Tick
Good luck to us.
state
I don't know how we crossed wires so bad here, oh well.
And state was neutral? Better neutral than red.

There seems to be a word missing from the list
thx; forgot to put Embassy on the blue list
Home Improvement - unlimited
This is the rest of our list, at least what was in the last post. I'm assuming that the unlimited here means guess both, unless there's a bunch of words that hit Home Improvement hard. We need 4.
Millionaire
Apple
Apple - From the list, definite guess
Bug - I don't think so?
Fence - Absolutely yes
File - A file is a tool, so there's something here
Millionaire - From the list; probable guess
Nail - Even better tool choice than File, imo
Paste - No?
Theater - No
Tick - No
I'd go with:
Apple
Fench
Nail
Then we need to have the same debate as Blue just did. Is the unlimited "run the list" or is it "skip the next on your list and go from there". File is a viable choice, but it's also easy to miss as a tool. I think Millionaire is my choice for the last word, but very open to being convinced otherwise
