Come on in! Since Dustin is taking his ball and going home, it's time to start a new politics thread.
In 2020 the NBA players sat out of the bubble games in protest of a shooting or something in Minnesota? They had the most leverage they would ever have to change something and then behind the scenes they caved for wristbands that said stop racism and probably money. And followed by articles about how they had more power by not protesting.
People have a lot of power if united. Even students could go on a hunger strike or just skip school all together if they wanted change at their schools, whatever it might be.
And there was occupy wall street which was constantly mocked in media.
problem with most of those movements is they lack messaging and are happy to let everyone join in and this dilutes the message
just a few blocks from where i live in seattle, there's a weekend protest spot and there'll be 20 people there, each with a different sign advocating for their own personal cause so there's 20 different messages out there, many of which are in direct conflict with each other - so instead of having any chance to push across any message, it's just a collection of grievances
purely performative with no purpose nor goal other than virtue signaling their grievances

that is farther proof that the NBA union is not labor. if they were labor, they would have used their power to force change.
and it was actually Obama who made personal phone calls to players to talk them out of protesting.
just my opinion, but I got the vibe they really wanted to strike. the movement was huge. the outrage at the police just killing people. it wasn't just the "shooting in minnesota"... george Floyd was choked to death, that kind of sparked BLM riots across the country. there was real momentum. defund the police had massive popularity.
the outrage of the black players talking about police brutality in the media was visceral. but ****stick Obama called them and talked them out of it. like just incredibly sickening on so many levels.
iirc Minnesota people burned down a police station?!?!?!!?! and they had public support?!?!?!?!

Finally the Trump administration is doing something logical in the Middle East.
Oil prices are rising and the only country who can reliably get oil through the Strait of Hormuz is Iran so...remove sanctions on Iran so they can sell the oil!

seattle spends like 118,000 per homeless person
enough to send them all to harvard
ca spends 175k a year per deathrow inmate
and USA spends a billion a day to bomb kids in Iran and destroy the world
"spends on homeless" can mean a lot of things, including efforts to curb homelessness itself (job skills training, temporary housing, medical assistance)
numbers in isolation are meaningless at best
