POG Politics Thread Version 3
Come on in! Since Dustin is taking his ball and going home, it's time to start a new politics thread.
jfc man... all the headlines are like "the world is ending" "it's over bro" "**** is about to get completely ****ing insane" "Kardashian's blah blah"
have headlines always been like this? or is this something different. it feels like something different to me.
but it does remind me of "this is the most important election of our life" saying that every time.
I like pwns and hate him. good avatar tho
I haven't noticed headlines like that
TACO had to lie that Iran is negotiating.
They aren't negotiating. The US and Israel used negotiations as cover to attack them. You cannot negotiate with such people, they only understand one thing.
possible TSA funding deal, the same day Delta suspends Congress' special flying privileges
you touch our money, we touch your time

Palm Beach County voter records show the president voted by mail in a Tuesday special election for state legislative seats and that his ballot has been counted. Early in-person voting in the contest ran through Sunday, when Trump was still at his south Florida estate.

"Psycho-politics: Neoliberalism and New Technologies of Power"
Explicitly a follow-up to Foucault's notion of "bio-power" (the state acting as a controller of life, rather than as a controller of death as in the pre-capitalist age), we are now within a regime of "psycho-power" - controlling the minds and desires of the populace through technological manipulation (social media algorithms, shopping suggestions, audio-book reading lists, etc.) whereby privacy is forced into anachronism by a willing public who see personal exposure as a virtue.
Politics are no longer concerns over productive policy or effective administration but instead are guided by scandal and responsive expression, social expression being the new primary economic material in place of the former, physical goods. There is no longer any concern for compromise or collectivity; today we are content with taking a side and cheering for the team.
Neoliberal capitalism is the religion of the day and mobile phones are the new rosary beads.
The self is no longer a sub-ject (casting under) but now a pro-ject (casting out).
There is no longer choice; there are now only options.
In Bentham's panopticon, the inmates are isolated from one another and there is total surveillance, but that surveillance is solely exterior.
Today, rather than being individually isolated, we are collectively de-atomized and amalgamated, while our surveillance is internalized - our thoughts and desires are freely given, moreso even as we seek to maximize our exposure and unconsidered sense of "usefulness" (interesting when juxtaposed with Bentham's original conception of the synomic(?) "utility"). Today's institution is broader and deeper than Bentham could ever have imagined.
So after today's social media verdict, the company's are basically going to be forced into an 18+ requirement. I think that will be good.
But the tears will be real.
Ideally they would be forced to be less ****

they specifically targeted kids, which is why they are seeing these numbers, but why shouldn't a 20-year-old be able to recover on the same liability theory?
these products are designed to be addictive and are known to cause mental and social harm
maybe they end up with warning labels like cigarettes
I saw that Melania dumped Trump for a White House event and brought someone else...
It doesn't move or act like a human.
The robot is pretty cool tho.
I suspect Mark is teeing this one up for me, seems too easy.
ideally social media just wouldn't exist
"I’d be harsh on Iran. They’ve been beating us psychologically, making us look a bunch of fools. One bullet shot at one of our men or ships and I’d do a number on Kharg Island. I’d go in and take it."

Whew!
I don't read that many papers lately, why is there only one citation from 1968? Skinner was still poking children with sharp sticks and raising them in boxes in 1968. I wasn't even born yet!
