Federal judge blocks RFK Jr.'s changes to childhood vaccine schedule
The ruling stems from a lawsuit brought by major medical organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The ruling stems from a lawsuit the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and other medical groups brought against the Department of Health and Human Services, arguing that Kennedy’s changes to vaccine recommendations and to an influential vaccine advisory committee violated federal law.

In January, Kennedy and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made sweeping changes to the childhood vaccine schedule, reducing the number of recommended diseases to be vaccinated against from 18 to 11. The change dropped recommendations that all babies should be protected against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, RSV, dengue and two types of bacterial meningitis.

In response, more than 200 groups, including the American Medical Association, the March of Dimes and the Autism Science Foundation, announced they would disregard the changes and follow the AAP’s immunization schedule, instead.

The judge also put on hold the new members Kennedy has appointed to the CDC’s vaccine advisory committee since June. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices helps shape U.S. vaccine policy, including recommendations that influence the childhood vaccine schedule and which shots insurance must cover.

The panel was scheduled to meet Wednesday and Thursday. According to the AAP’s attorney, Richard Hughes, the judge’s decision essentially stops the meeting from happening.

An HHS official confirmed that the meeting had been postponed.

The ruling also stayed any of the votes Kennedy’s ACIP has taken since June, including a vote to no longer recommend the hepatitis B vaccine for all newborns.

The decision is a setback for Kennedy, a longtime anti-vaccine activist who promised to restore trust in the public health agencies, but whose controversial policies have created confusion among pediatricians and contributed to more distrust of childhood vaccination, experts say. A recent survey from the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania found that trust in public health agencies has fallen in President Donald Trump’s second term.

“Today is a day to celebrate the triumph of science over misinformation,” said Dr. Richard Besser, president of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. “This is a huge blow to Kennedy’s vaccine policies.”

You're damn right it is.

F this evil administration.

For decades, science fiction told us that AI would be mysterious overlords, operating on a level to advanced for us to understand and with the potential to lead us into transcendence.

And here we are, with government AIs that recommend you eat carrots by covering it with a condom, sticking it up your ass and fish it out with a string when you feel done.

At least they are mysterious.

Except it's not AI in the conventional SF meaning.
LLM are completely different.

Except it's not AI in the conventional SF meaning.
LLM are completely different.

For sure, I just found the story hysterical.

On a more serious note, it is problematic that LLMs have become synonymous with AI instead of a sub-category. We might find that our guard is a lot lower than it should be when future models of AI become a reality or potential reality.

I'll bet BJ would've shown up here with this one.

yeah it's sad without your alt account you now need to post it yourself

HHS now planning to post that birth control is over prescribed and has NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS!!!!!!

Love this timeline we’re in

More project 2025 stuff being implemented. Only way to stop it is midterms.

Donald Trump and his Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr have doubled down on their mathematically incorrect claims about how percentages work.
The US president has repeatedly claimed his policies would reduce prescription drug prices by as much as 600 per cent.
Such a claim is mathematically impossible.

The stupidity seems to spreading to other parts of the government. This is a spectacularly bad idea. The way you often live together while in the service means that diseases can spread incredibly easy. Vaccines and hygiene is very important to ensure readiness. I once saw almost two thirds of my platoon down for the count with fever, and it took like a day to spread. Not all disease is preventable, but to invite easily preventable outbreaks is simply dumb.

For the sitting defense secretary to state that vaccines "only weaken our war-fighting capabilities" borders on the absurd. It might not be stupidest thing he has said, but that says more about how many absurd things this man has said than it does about this particular statement.

To put things in an historic perspective, modern medicine completely changed war. Prior to the 20th century, the leading cause of death of soldiers in war was not combat, but disease. And even after the advent of "modern" nursing (mid to late 1800s) and hygiene understanding (early to mid 1800s) had advanced military application of medicine, flu still killed almost as many US service members in WW1 as combat. Granted that this was primarily caused by the spanish flu, but it clearly shows that you do not under any circumstance want a military force led by anti-vax sentiment and superstition like "vaccines weaken people".

Honestly, I'd be disappointed by anything less...

Before Dr. Brian Christine was tapped to lead America’s public hantavirus response, he was an Alabama-based urologist who specialized in penile implants, CNN reported Friday.

Christine currently serves as the assistant secretary for health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and as such is one of the top public health officials running the country’s infectious disease policy. Earlier this week, he told reporters in Nebraska that the agency’s response to the dangerous outbreak would be “grounded in science” and “grounded in transparency.”

Yet Christine’s resume seems far and away from that of a typical U.S. health official. While he has some public health experience under his belt, having served as a four-star admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, he has also espoused dangerous far-right beliefs and spread wellness conspiracy theories.

He rebuked coronavirus mandates and spread conspiracy theories about treatment plans that sowed doubt and division over the government’s public health response at the time. He has claimed that the pandemic was a part of a wider government plot to control people, and he skirted questions from the U.S. Senate as to whether or not he would recommend the Covid vaccine to his patients.

I wonder if this new appointment is “trumps penile implant” guy similarly to the guys working on the reflecting pool.

Elon Musk has long been rumored to have some kind of botched penile implant issue. Certainly hope it’s not that guy.

It's not like you guys have the leading experts in the world on epidemiology on hand, so this makes perfect sense.

Wait, wat?

The Trump administration has announced a plan to kill Biden-era drinking water limits on four Pfas “forever chemicals”, and to delay the implementation of standards for two other compounds.

“The Trump EPA is committed to Make America Healthy Again by ensuring clean air, land, and water – and by taking on Pfas the right way, across the full life cycle and built to last,” Zeldin said in a statement.

Is it even possible to limit exposure to Pfoa and Pfos in drinking water to 4 ppt?????

Study showing that conservatives are becoming unhealthier and dying more compared to libs. Not only do unhealthy people gravitate towards conservative politics (manufactured by the republicans to garner low iq votes), the growing distrust in science and medicine is ****ng them.

That effect will become more and more pronounced with dropping vaccination rates and the return of more and more infectious diseases that were previously controlled/eliminated.

Pentagon restores mandatory flu shots fo...

Lasted an impressive three months.

Anyone that didn't already know he was at least as corrupt as Trump was kidding themselves. And of course nothing will happen.
