The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Are you shocked as the Liberals have Stephen Harper 2.0 running the party. Heck Carney stealing the last of the conservative party policies vowing to crack down on crime .

oh man not a good day for Poilievre, his comms director abandons ship

by uke_master m

Actually this one DOES shock me. This isn't a normal swing riding centrist conservative type. This is among the more socially conservative pro freedom convoy in super safe conservative district types. I get that Carney wants a bit of a cushion around that majority makes things easier to govern and deal with illnesses etc, but this is actually not the person I'd think they want

Oh please he is so far right of Trudeau and a shadow of Harper's . The only policy I can see a difference on is the Gun Buyback. Even when it comes to climate they are similar .

I just said "substantially to the right of Trudeau" and then you say "oh please he is so far right of Trudeau"....like wtf did you think you were correcting?

But it also isn't remotely true that he is a shadow of Harpers. On a tonne of issues they remain quite separated with Carney retaining many Trudeau era things like childcare, healthcare, pharmacare, dental care, industrial carbon pricing, etc. People can move to the right without being right.

Oh i missed the substantially to the right my apologies. May of those so called policies were at the hands of the NDP demanding them for support but still do count

Pierre should've done us all a favor and should've left after he lost the election and his seat. I hope he does us all a favor now and ****s off. I can't stomach the idea of 10 more years of liberals destroying Canada but clearly Pierre clearly isn't it.

Agreed when he lost his seat that should of been the end

I also wish we end floor crossings . Resign and have a bi election

Yes they still ****ing count. Liberals implemented them. Liberals keep them. Conservatives voted against them, conservatives pledge to get rid of them. So this whole "Carney is just Harper's shadow" bit where you pretend you can't think of a single policy that separates them its like **** no that isn't close to the truth. Two things can be true at the same time: Carney is both to the right of Trudeau AND to the left of Poilievre. Even if you stupidly want to give credit to the NDP that still means it is a lefty policy being held in place.

Did you oppose floor crossing to the conservatives back in the day?

by uke_master m

Did you oppose floor crossing to the conservatives back in the day?

Yes I did but heck that's been a long time ago the reality is that riding voted for a party and if you are no longer representing that party sit resign . I might be ok with sitting as an independent

Though I'll be happy if Carney gets a majority

I’d bet 10:1 that if Trudeau lost an MP to poilievre you’d have squealed in ecstasy.

How would you have felt if the MP you voted for left the liberals to cross the floor?

Lets be clear as well they had a vote on this to stop floor crossings and neither leader at the time voted to support the bill

Oh I understand and respect our Canadian democracy, so I have no issue with floor crossings. We elect MPs, not the PM and not parties. The PM has to command the confidence of the MPs, and this PM has done that.

We knew it was coming a CDN politician said it

MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+

What exactly are you mad about?

MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+

******ed movement but a great Wi-Fi password.

by uke_master m

IM not mad about anything just laughing at how far fetched we go with the letters. I give her credit for memorizing all those when she spoke .

I think we need to add AOG so AOGMMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+

What is "far fetched" exactly? Like try to articulate what you are ridiculing. The Truth and Reconciliation report talks about missing and murdered indigenous women and girls, widely known by the acronym MMIWG. Of all people, an NDP politician who both is indigenous and represents manitoba in the UN's forum on indigenous issues would obviously be fluent with the MMIWG acronym. And many Canadian politicians have adopted the 2SLGBTQQIA+ acronym. The goal is just to be inclusive of lots of different people who might not see their identity there. Is this really so bad? That a public representative is trying to be inclusive in their language? Nobody is forcing you to memorize anything. But I don't see what value ridiculing others plays.

Question. Knowing full well this never goes anywhere. Do we really need an acronym as ridiculous as this one to make people feel included when politicians are speaking? Lets say Carney addresses the nation tomorrow, if he doesn't use ''MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+'' does anyone who is part of that acronym now feel ignored?

One more question. How many more letters before you start to agree this acronym is ridiculous and really doesn't achieve anything?

Well why do we not have a letter for the homeless and Single moms do not want them to be left out .

Even 2SLGBTQQIA+ is just bat chit crazy

The NDP showed their craziness at the convention .

To be clear I 100% support the LGB community

AI tells me that 2SLGBTQQIA+ is an inclusive acronym for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual communities.

Someone thought this acronym was a good idea????? HAHAHAHA

Needed? I don't think its required, no. But I don't think it is particularly ridiculous either. It's not going to enter common parlance, but I think it's fine for an elected indigenous leader whose primary advocacy in parliament and the UN is indigenous leaders to aim to be inclusive that the MMIWG highlighted in the truth and reconcilliation report might extend to other groups like two-spirit etc etc.

by Pablito m

Lets say Carney addresses the nation tomorrow, if he doesn't use ''MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+'' does anyone who is part of that acronym now feel ignored?

My claim is not that this should be required usage for everyone every time. That might be ridiculous. The question is any ever allowed to say it without being ridiculed? Both MMIWG and 2SLGBTQQIA+ are fairly common, this is just intersecting the two.

by Pablito m

One more question. How many more letters before you start to agree this acronym is ridiculous and really doesn't achieve anything?

I guess my claim is that it doesn't hurt anything. I think it's great to have an indigenous politician trying to center the conversation on the truth and reconcilliation report's about MMIWG. So I have no problem at all that seemingly once - given how viral this has gone - it was ever included in the same string as standard LGBTetc type things.

by lozen m

Questioning ?

Sounds like the acronym is already helpfully sparking a useful conversation about a group of people that might otherwise be forgotten about!
