President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

hn spin is delicious

I can't be bothered to go back through thread to find the posts. Is your view that Dems pushers in thread weren't bothered by it and weren't repeatedly claiming that Trump was 1) going to run again in 2028, 2) going to change election rules to make him win, 3) was going to redraw maps, 4) was going to cancel the election

what's the spin? these are recurring thoughts of the thought leaders in here.

Not multiple issues hn, just the Trump and your hypocrisy of gerrymandering.

I think we all agree that gerrymandering is bad.

Fetterman expressed his displeasure with Virginia's gerrymandering. A rare politician with actual principles.

What's my hypocrisy?

by housenuts

no, it was a big deal when trump said it and thread was up in arms, but now it's no big deal. hypocrites.

Dems: Gerrymandering is bad and we shouldn't do it
Republicans: Lol, get ****ed lib
Dems: Okay, if you are going to have the president request blatant gerrymandering in an attempt to manipulate elections then we will be forced to engage in these tactics so that elections aren't slanted against us
Republicans: Lol, get ****ed lib
Dems: *Gerrymanders*
Republicans: WOW THATS NOT FAIR YOU GUYS ARE HYPOCRITES

You were happy to troll around when I was telling you that Trump requesting Texas perform specific gerrymandering was actually manipulating the election and here you are calling people hypocrites and crying foul when the shoe is on the other foot

That actually makes you the hypocrite. I maintain that gerrymandering is bad, but if Republicans are going to openly gerrymander then Dems have no choice but to fight fire with fire to maintain some semblance of balance.

Lol, get ****ed republican

The funniest part is california and Virginia had their voters do it

Suck less maybe they don’t win

Crying about this is big lol

i never said anything about it not being fair or crying foul. you made that up.

i said nice gerrymandering. and then specifically said i wasn't crying about it, just find your hypocrisy funny.

Which "thought leaders" in the forum predicted that 1 or 4 was likely?

Changing election rules and redrawing maps were hardly bold or reckless predictions. Those things already have happened to a degree.

No puppet, no puppet. You're the puppet!

Both have been said many times in this forum. I dont know how likely the posters actually thought it was, but they stated it like it was going to happen.

You’re definitely not mad or crying

Am I one of the people who "stated it like it was going to happen"?

I'm not.

I don't think it is at all likely that Trump will continue as president past 2028. Less than a 5% chance imo. And if he does, it won't be because he ran for a third term and won. It will be because Republicans kept both houses of Congresss and Trump somehow managed to conjure up some emergency basis for postponing elections. For a variety of practical reasons, I don't think postponement is at all likely either, but it is quite a bit more likely imo than the the federal courts ruling that the Constitution allows for three term presidents.

Being alarmed that the sitting president is even trolling a 3rd term and noting that is thoroughly inappropriate aren't the same thing as prescribing a high likelihood to the event happening

drastically cut racism/DEI (done)

Wow 'someone whose eyes light up when a doctor shines a torch in their ear' alert.

Exactly correct.

I wonder what the babas of he world come up with when trump actively attempts to stop midterms.

by diebitter

I suspect the whole spectre of 'reasons' why the midterms shouldn't take place to start any time soon.

by biggerboat

There will be no replacement in 2028. He ain't leaving and he's ensuring that will happen right under our eyes.

by Land O Lakes

I mean, you're a straight unitard if you think Trump isn't going to try (if he remains healthy enough to remain in office).

The only one that unambiguously seems to suggest that he will actually run again is the third one. The other ones are just about what he will try to do.

I agree. Trump tries to do a lot of dumb things that are unlikely to succeed. I wouldn't have agreed with any of the four statements as written, but:

Very unlikely, but not impossible when you consider that Trump actively tried to prevent Biden from taking office after Biden won the election.

by diebitter

I suspect the whole spectre of 'reasons' why the midterms shouldn't take place to start any time soon.

If the GOP loses the midterms, Trump almost certainly will claim that the elections were rigged and that emergency reform is necessary. Not outrageous to imagine that Trump might till the soil a bit before the midterms.

I don't think he will try because the practical hurdles would be enormous, but again, a somewhat understandable sentiment when you consider that Trump tried to remain in power through nefarious means after unambiguously losing an election.

If he loses the midterms by the sort of margins suggested by current polls is there much he can do via executive order to rig the election process in 28?

Also I guess it’s very likely that the Dems will try to impeach him. What are the charges likely to be and is there much chance of him being impeached and this time removed?

Perfect. And guys like housenuts aren't stupid. They know exactly what they are doing. Just disgusting people. I'm so sick of being surrounded by disgusting people like this.

I would say that most of the risk in that scenario would be chicanery at the state legislature level, which obviously doesn't require an executive order.

For better or worse, I expect almost every president to be impeached in the current climate if the House is controlled by the opposing party. The chances of conviction in the Senate, which requires a 2/3 majority, are exactly 0.0%
