President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Feel the same way about gay people?

You cut out the part about “unless it was sufficiently easy”. But no I don’t, because gay people don’t have to go through intensive hormone treatments and surgeries in order to feel normal. Gender dysphoria sounds horrible from the descriptions of it that trans people give.

by Rococo

I think of lying as an attempt to pass off false statements of fact as true statements of fact. If a person knowingly offered an argument that relied on faulty logic, I would feel comfortable calling the argument dishonest, but I wouldn't necessarily say that the person was lying.

In other words, I think there is a difference between sophistry and lying.

I think sophistry might be worse than lying.

If you'd said you wished no one was assigned the wrong gender than you'd be on solid ground, but fantasising about giving trans people pills to revert their gender is pretty meh if you stop to think about what it would mean for people.

I feel like it's necessary to point that not all transgender people experience gender dysphoria.

Let’s say someone finds out they have gender dysphoria, and there was a pill they could take that could make them not have gender dysphoria and thus not want to transition. What exactly would be the issue with doing that?

What if transition-related care was already highly effective at resolving gender dysphoria?

It would all be a matter of comparing the pros and cons of various interventions. I’m pointing out that compared to the interventions we have now, just taking a pill that would stop your gender dysphoria without transitioning would be way cheaper, less effort, and less social cost than current interventions. I agree that the interventions we use now have been shown to be effective (in adults).

Just got to the part where his theory is me and mclovin have sex all the time and trolling Mongo is our dirty talk

Hey, if I were into men I wouldn’t hate the idea

To be absolutely clear (not to the rapist cuz I don’t give a ****, but to Roco mostly) I have never once DM’d a mod to check on mongo/elway. It was just comically obvious

Then how did you get access to the DM sent to Coordi?

mongidig,

Why in your opinion did you get banned from debatepolitics.com?

by checkraisdraw

I wasn't advocating for sophistry. I was just explaining the distinction I was making.

I think it's fairly obvious that a (hypothetical) more effective treatment should be preferred were it to be discovered/otherwise manifest, but do you think the patient should be able to decide which of two effective treatment routes they take in that case?

just need to grind more low level subforums and level up

by Gorgonian

it's not. when you look at actual suicide outcomes instead of self reported "ideation" scores, there is no strong evidence that transition normalizes suicide risk, and one of the best long term cohort studies we have found suicide mortality remained dramatically elevated even after transition

most of the studies people cite in response rely on self reporting, short follow up periods, small sample sizes, or no proper control group

Yes, but I also think that protocols of recommendations from doctors would change if such a pill was available. It also might change what is covered medically by insurance.

Totally fair. And I agree as long as the ultimate decision is with the patient given that both treatment routes are effective. I find it highly unlikely that this pill will ever materialize, but we can hope. Of course, we'd need to get rid of the anti-science administration currently in place to ever have a chance of that kind of progress in this country.

Doesn’t a dishonest argument connote that the person was being intentionally deceptive? If someone was just mistaken I don’t think I would call their argument dishonest myself.

Yes but that can be done without saying untrue.

That can be worse than lying and it's the art of politicians and lawyers

A recent example in real british politcs came with a scrutiny committee saying of someone's deception to previous questions that 'that was like saying you did run to work but failing to mention that you were being chased by a bear'

Hey man, maybe you don't realize the implications of you saying this over and over, but I didn't share your DM with anyone. Not even other mods.

Hey Coordi,

I recently had my computer crash and in the process I lost my password. I am Mongidig. I no longer have my email address from when I started in 2004 so I wasn’t able to reset my password. I tried to reach out to customer support several times with my new email address but they never responded. I decided to open a new account not knowing what else to do. I’m not intentionally trying to break any rules. I know there are others who have had alt accounts allowed. Is there something you can do to restore my Mongidig account? Should I just stick with Elway? I just want to do the right thing.

Thanks
Mong

Here it is though. Now I have. If SRM posted this conversation to the forum then I will eat a shoe

Lmao. Colorado City's best.

most of the

It is well established by now that 'transition' does not improve mental-health outcomes in the distressed youth cohort and, if anything, makes it worse. Which is not surprising because the procedures are harmful and unpleasant and cannot work -- it is impossible to change sex. So suicidality tends to increase after 'transition' due to disillusionment.

Gender dysphoria is historically extremely rare and until recently was found in a very small number of pre-pubescent boys. The cause remains unknown and doctors were probably overlooking social and family-related factors. The recent trend in over-diagnosis among mainly pubescent girls again results from overlooking social factors.

At the now-closed Tavistock clinic in London, the supposedly dysphoric young patients, during the boom in referrals, were overwhelmingly same-sex attracted (and clearly anxious about it) and disproportionate numbers were autistic and/or 'in care', meaning they were under the control of ideologically and perhaps sexually motivated adults in the social-work 'profession'. (A certain sort of person is keen to work with children and very excited by the idea of keeping them forever pubescent in brain and body even when they become legally adult and therefore 'available'.) Often, though, it's the parents. Tavistock patients were unusually likely to have at least one parent who had been convicted of a criminal sexual offence.

I don’t know which forum SRM posted it in. He showed a screenshot of this message. How would I search for this? Maybe SRM will be a man and fess up. Maybe SRM hacked your account. I know I saw it.

LOOOOL Elway totally unrelated to mongidig.

So, Elway, why did you repeatedly pretend you’re not mongidig?

I hope that mong was just amusing himself thinking he was trolling us and he didn’t think we were stupid enough to not know it was him.
