President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Your courage is not an issue for your imagination. You are the authority on your courage.

If you have something courageous in your past to share, feel free.

My desire to impress you is nonexistent, and certainly is not strong enough to cause me to share personal stories that I would prefer to keep private. In any case, I never claimed that songs had been written about my exploits, such as they are. I am not often in a position where I might be risking my life. I'm not a soldier. I don't work in emergency services. If the time came where I needed to sacrifice my life for a greater cause, I think I could do it. But perhaps I would turn out to be a huge coward if I had to jump on the grenade. I guess you never know until the grenade is lying next to you.

MLK Jr was a courageous man. He took on capitalism and paid for it with his life.

It's more than a little revisionist to claim that MLB was assassinated mainly because of his positions on capitalism. James Earl Ray seems to have been motivated in large part by bog standard racism.

An example of something courageous Rococo might be taking an unpopular stance in your community and sticking to your conviction.

I don't think this is especially courageous, but I did this for years. (I grew up in a deep red area.)

He didn’t say it was wrong, just revisionist.

But you don't hesitate to accuse people you don't know of being egotistical and motivated by a desire to impress others.

Seems like you are representing the ability to mindread. To me, that seems egotistical.

Maybe you should consider apologizing ....

This thread went to complete dogshit.

So the racist murderer who could have killed a million other black people just randomly chose MLK Jr without regard to his courageous public leadership and the fact that he was a public figure ?

Is that what you're trying to imply ? That he just wanted to kill any black person ?

I am implying that he wanted to kill a high-profile black person who was a symbol of black empowerment. That would hardly be unusual for a violent racist.

the utter stupidity of this take alone should convince you to step far away from the keyboard for a while

it’s not ad hominem. i’m criticizing your analysis.

by Victor

If that jury was correct (which is far from universally accepted), then the motivations were various and complicated. If Ray killed MLK, then the motivation seems more simple.

Ray's claim that he didn't kill MLK but that he did leave a rifle with his fingerprints at the scene because he wanted to be a famous criminal strains credulity just a bit.

My analysis is that courageous people die because of their courage.

They take a stance against a ruthless status quo.

In an interview with Vanity Fair after their divorce, Trump's first wife Ivana told the story of Trump having a book of Hitler's speeches that he would read in bed.

"read"...🙄

It's easy to sit and criticize Trump's cartoonish leadership. But not a lot of people willing to say how they want the world to be run and why.

As for his supporters, not a lot them explaining why they support him.

that is not a bar anyone has to meet, ever. we don't run the world.

a proper Politics is a response to how the world is run, from a perspective informed by your actual political identity.

if you work you are labor and you need to understand how capitalism dehumanizes you in order to reclaim your Humanity. sitting around cafes posturing utopias is a I'm going to call it repressive strategy.

.

So, in your opinion, there's no place for our preference for how we wish the world to be run better ?

you always do the thing where you purposely twist someone's words into an absolute. I'm not making it up, you did it like seven times today alone.

no, I didn't say there's no place for anything. but people misunderstand the utility of Marx because they think his answers are in Socialism or Communism. They are not. His answers are in alienation, false consciousness, commodity fetishism, etc. In the critique.

Politics is a marketplace. It's about supply and demand.

If we don't like Trump, it's important to understand the political demand for someone like him and provide a more compelling alternative.

If people are unable to articulate what they want, that's a big problem in terms of justifying an alternative to Trump. As abhorrent as he is, he gives roughly 40% of the population something they want.

When the Dems provide an alternative like Kamala Harris and people can't articulate anything about Harris that satisfies their desires, that paints a strong picture of why Trump won and why we are vulnerable to a future fascist like him.

It's kinda crazy to be on a politics forum where community members can't articulate what they want. What's the point ?

Mishima is a great philosopher.

His major philosophical statement Sun and Steel is about getting a tan and lifting weights. Seriously.
