President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Trump Media to sell instant access to 'market-moving' social posts
the corruption is no longer shocking
the boldness still is
When Trump is no longer President.
My guess is that a lot of the tariffs are based on multi billionaires whose businesses will benefit and are either Trump's business partners (or people who have provided money for one of his ventures) or friends or people he has borrowed tons of money from (like the Russian Oligarchs).

Absolutely disgusting that the federal govt is trying to collect tax money from foreign companies. I hope our next president is dem so we will stop taxing foreign companies and start increasing taxes on US companies and individuals.

Trump said in March 2025 that he intended to force changes at the Smithsonian Institution, signing an executive order that sought to target federal funding for programs that present “divisive narratives” and “improper ideology.”
I can’t even begin to imagine how mentally broken you have to be to look at where we are right now and stand back with pride saying ‘man, I’m so glad trump won’

Many Republicans can’t name a single thing Trump has done wrong
Most Republicans are in lockstep with the president
When asked if Trump had done anything this term that he disagreed with,
Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, said he couldn’t come up with a single thing.
“I suggest we probably try to give him a third term,”
Just reinforcing my point that stupidity and lack of education is how we got here, not Kamala laughing.

I've a feeling that quite a lot of people think that, and don't realize that the whole idea of tariffs is to increase prices at the point of purchase in the US.
It has been made quite clear that it isn't foreign companies that are paying for the tariffs. It does reduce business though for foreign companies which is ultimately Trump's purpose. This means that companies in the US that manufacture things without tariffs benefit. I'm going with Elon Musk and other billionaires who cater to Trump. And of course a bunch of Trump's own business ventures.
The people who are paying for the tariffs are either people buying those things where the tariffs are included in the price of the items (so people in the US buying things produced in foreign countries) and/or US companies that are not including the tariffs completely or at all in their prices (so the companies are absorbing the tariffs which reduces their profits).

The reason why Republican politicians aren't publicly disagreeing with Trump is that if they do they will be challenged in their next primary. And they will lose to a MAGA Republican supported by Trump. But there are many Republican politicians that in private are admitting that they are sick of Trump. Some have retired and have gone public. Some are still in office and are retiring at their next election and have come out publicly against Trump, including Marjorie Taylor Green.
As for Republican voters about 50% are now saying they are sick of Trump. And in all likelihood there will be a massive group of stay at home republicans who won't vote in the 2026 elections. Now they aren't MAGA types who believe all the lies and don't care about peoples lives as long as they can own guns, stop trans people from using public bathrooms, reduce black employment by eliminating DEI programs, and stop women from getting abortions. Unless of course they are one of 20% who claim to be pro-life but end up getting an abortion anyway.
The foreign companies only pay part of the tariff. In the same way US companies only pay for some of the US corporate tax they pay. Both sets of companies pass some of those costs to customers and employees.
The foreign company only pays part of the tariff if the importing company negotiates it. The entire tax is paid by the US company.

I think he should have only raised tariffs in an attempt to get our trade partners to lower their tariffs.
In saying that, everything he has done wrong is better than Kamala wanting to do student debt forgiveness, giving 25k to some first time home buyers, raising corporate taxes, raising income taxes and continue growing the size of government. Remember in the US every voter has the choice between 2 candidates - we don’t get to hand pick each policy so trump was easily the better of the 2 imo.

Shut up idiot. You don't have a basic grasp of even the simplest concepts related to any of these topics.

All these policies sound amazing. Kamala should have spelled out her intentions more clearly and would have performed better. Still would have lost though.

It's arguable how much but when people say the foreign country pays they are not making some nitty technical point. It's about how much prices go up and that can be less than the tariff percentage because part of the increase is being absorbed by lower profits for the exporter.
An exporter is paying part of the price of the tariff if they reduce their profit margin even if technically they aren't paying the tariff.

Are suggesting the exporter is actually reducing the prices to stabilize the prices for the customers?
Sure some are. The pressures to remain competitive are huge. Some give up, Some eat some of the extra cost, some pass it all on.
So now it's just some, not all.
Bahbah and your 1st post didn't specify that at all, you both worded it like it was the general rule.
I would be interrested to see what percentage of foreign exporters do lower their price to counter the tariffs, we might end up with the '' nitty technical point'' ,
