I am now acknowledging that I am terrified of doing new things.
I recently discovered Menard's. But there are a ton of new things that come with it.
They have an order pickup area that you can drive into and load construction and landscaping materials directly into your vehicle. It has taken me a month of reconnaissance before I was ready to do it.
I started by just going there and buying a few things at the normal checkout. What's their checkout like? Do they have self checkout. No. They unload your cart for you. Ok.
Then I got some plywood and things and took it through the normal checkout. Cool. Start walking through the lumberyard to get oriented.
Then walking to the outside order pickup area to see what's up. It's HUGE. Menards prices have been consistently lower than Lowe's and Home Depot and their lumber is better.
Looking at the maps. Deciding something to buy. How will I load it in. What goes together in my Tucson.
I ended up with a bunch of construction blocks and 2x12x8s.
Where is the entrance. How do you get in. They sent me a QR code. Ok heading over scanning in drove right past the stupid blocks etc etc find the lumber in the upper board rack in the lumberyard, carry each one of them sumbitches down the stairs by hand because a trailer was blocking the forklift.
Where is the exit? Oh it's at the entrance. Scan the code again. Guy looks at the materials. Heading home.
That took a month. But now I can get construction materials from Menards. Literally everything in my life is like this and I have never acknowledged it. Afaik this is Autism.

I'm scared to try to figure out how to use the washing machine at my airbnb.
I couldn't find the trash. after three days I messaged the owner and asked where the trash is. it's under the kitchen sink. I LOOKED THERE! but the trash was camouflaged.
went to pickup a target order for my gf, had to talk to like 5 workers and wait around forever, then drive to a deserted area of the parking lot in the dark, and stand around and wait for a young girl who worked there, and then initiate conversation with this poor scared girl, who eventually loaded the things into my car
at the opposite end of literally the Spectrum, I lost my Impostor Syndrome
which is a thing in IT where you know that you really don't have the breadth and depth of understanding of all the components to be doing all the stuff you're doing.
I never feel like that anymore in my job. I have been doing this for a long time and I am better at these specific things than everyone around me and just wade into everything with no fear whatsoever, I always Figure It Out.
That took more than twenty years.
So what is your solution to not using the washing machine? Trip to Walmart for new underwear every few weeks? Wear your clothes in the shower?
It's easy to laugh at this stuff but awhile ago, I once rented a car at midnight. The interior of the car was completely dark and I couldn't figure out how to turn the headlights on. I had windshield wipers wiping, windshield sprayers going but no headlights. I was pulling, twisting, turning everything I could feel.
I lived at a place with no laundry for three months a few years ago and I just bought new clothes until I moved.
I've been going to home Depot a lot recently for new house stuff. I do a mix of online ordering deliver pick up or going in the store. Seem to always forget something even ordering online.
Most recent I dug drainage for our sump pump. Hopefully I did it right because I don't want to have to dig it back up.
We had Menards growing up not sure where they are located must be vaguely Midwest.
Or if you don't forget something something like this happens.
Broken YouTube LinkTough to decide what I want to do on my own and learn how to do or what to pay someone to do. But with ai learning how to do stuff seems very easy even if it can get things wrong if you don't double check.
Currently discovering all the problems with my deck. Based on Reddit no one builds decks correctly despite them being one of the easier things to build. Maybe less regulation and permits?
