Hi Limon. I’ve started golfing again 2 months ago for the first time in over 10 years and now am hooked. I’m about your age. Above average athletic ability. Grew up on a country club so played some golf as a kid, but never took it seriously. I was into the more active sports like basketball and soccer. Averaged 99 over my 12 rounds so far with 89 as my best and 115 as my worst. When I played more consistently 20 years ago I’d shoot 87-94.

When, if ever, do I get new clubs? I’m using the ones I bought used in ‘08 (they’re from ‘02-03). Thanks.

you don't need new clubs but you do need clubs that were made after the USGA capped all new tech advances on MOI and spring effect etc etc. prob want clubs from at least 2020. you cant beat this setup for cheap:

Was just at the range and now the head of my driver rattles like a baby rattle. Obviously there’s something loose in there. Ever experience this before and if so what do I do? (I really don’t want to buy anything if I don’t have to, especially with only 1 round left before the season is done.)

@TheBigEasy. With Black Friday sales coming soon would seem like the perfect time to buy. Specially with the season ending maybe even get a better deal. Idk maybe just me being too thrifty a shopper.

Cheers!!!

Thanks for the advice! But I more than likely will buy used, not new. I assume most BlackFriday sales are on new clubs. (The driver with the rattle worked yesterday without snapping in half!)

Fair point on buying used vs new and BF sales. On the bright side guess you got all winter then to shop for some clubs in that case. Unless you live somewhere you can golf at year round. No reason not to take your time and get exactly what you want. Good luck shopping.
Cheers!!!

Found my current model driver for $70 at a used golf shop. Just gonna buy it and (hopefully) worry about getting different clubs at the end of next year.

...whooooops....lol

Limon,

How much did you win or lose betting on the US Presidential Election?

He called people thinking Trump would win massive idiots on Twitter before he got banned for racist tweets. He put money where his mouth was though (although betting amounts would shrink once called out on DM)

35k. Trump has been an overall loser for me. I lost in 2016, won it all back and more in 2020 and then lost all that and a little more in 2024. Oh well, that’s no limit baby!

Problem solved for $61 after tax. Guy even threw in the head cover. Probably thrilled to see it walk out the door. (It would carry 200-220 on the simulator. That’s plenty for me.). I now am fully equipped with the latest golf technology from the early 2000s. And it’s Cleveland, to match my CG4 tour irons.

im glad youre happy but the seller cant believe someone paid for that club. lol. you should of told me and i could have literally told you how to get better club for free. go to a large busy course/driving range, say you left your old driver on the range, they'll show you a bucket of old drivers they use as doorstops or to chase rats or whatever, they will all basically look exactly like that club. lol.

The chip stack is similar to some of the old 2+2 WSOP parties.

The 2+2 post, not the event itself. I still remember this. I used to love watching Cate and Cyrus. Cyrus still posts occasionally on social media, so I keep up with him a little.

$100,000 brick of high society! That was the day i started hosting PLO at bike. People said there was no money at the bike so i guaranteed there would be 100k on the table...lol. same night this happened.

its not stealing, like i told you, they are literally using those drivers as doorstops.

Then why not just ask directly for one of those "doorstops"?

just to make it easy on the kid in the cart barn. might as well look at the whole bucket of them, get the cleanest one. if this hurts your sensitivities you can run along. after a year the golf course will throw these in a "clearance" bag and try to sell them for 30 bucks each then they hit the dumpster. source: i worked at golf courses my entire youth and was more than happy to give any crap in the cart barn to anyone who gave me plausible deniability to give it away.

If someone offered me a free driver, I’d have taken it. As it stands the “new” one I got seems to work fine. If I swing good, it goes good. If I don’t, it doesn’t. Seems fair.

Ok back to some degenerate poker advice.

Last week a super whale sits down at 1-2-5 PLO with about 50k (not a typo). He gets progressively more drunk as the night goes on. He proceeds to peel his cards up and literally expose his entire hand to me about 80% of the time. We have about 25k, a very good player has the same amount, and the remaining stacks are between 2k-4k. The whole table is trying to get this guy so it is very difficult to isolate, especially with the small blind size. Most often, this gentleman exclaims "pot" every time it gets to him. I have seen him call off against a random mid-stack on the river with just a pair of deuces, although in other spots he will pitch complete air when shown aggression (he likes to be the aggressor).

This should be a spot where I can print money because I can see his hand. But we are out of position, and no one else at the table is in a folding mood. How would you approach this spot Limon?

I feel like I really wasted this opportunity. Was quite card dead and when we had a reasonable hand, we would get outflopped versus the exposed hand and have to give up. I ended up winning a very small amount. Lost a large one with the other big stack/good player involved as a 3rd player-- we knew we had the whale beat, but lost to the other player as our completed draw was second best. In hindsight, I think the play is to play super duper wide and just play perfectly against this spot even with shitty hands, and the 2k-4k stacks are irrelevant if we can get this guy to put in 10k+ bad money.

you needed to bump the stakes up so you could iso and people would take pre flop action seriously.
