The Official ALL THINGS LIV GOLF thread

The Official ALL THINGS LIV GOLF thread

So it looks like it's happening. For real.

Phil is in. DJ is in. Some journeymen, scrubs, international "veterans", and up and coming rookies are in. A few others like Young Rickie are rumored.

Tiger Woods reportedly turned down high nine figures to turn to the dark side.

Let's talk about LIV Golf here and keep the PGA Tour thread pristine for those who don't ever want to think or read about this crap.

Actually watched a bit of the coverage this afternoon with no Pebble to swoon over. Announcing is decent, definitely has a bit of F1 flair to it. Very surprised Rahm crapped the bed the last two holes after being tied for the lead. And how about Caleb being on the winning team a week after moving out of his dorm room?

Two things I don't like. 1, the mic's in the cup makes it sound like Top Flight's crashing into a putt putt cup. Dreadful. 2, I know I'm old, but I can't stand watching tour p

ah the mic in the cup thing tilts me so hard and I don't know why 😃

I don't actually mind the shorts thing though.

Not sure how LIV thought playing this week in Vegas was a smart decision and at Las Vegas Country Club

Guess there are pros and cons. If you're in Vegas for the SB, you may be tempted to go along to LIV and watch more sport. But if you're outside Vegas, you might be put off by the big crowds. Overall a smart decision I think.

Apparently they've reduced grounds pass prices so I might check it out. Would be awesome to see Rahm and Surratt after Mayakoba.

It's warmer where I live than in Vegas this week. No one is going to this event.

Just checked and yeah that’s cold. That and Phoenix are both really cold vs the years it’s warm and fun. Both will probably be a let down. Phoenix is always awesome, but the last 2 years being designated and perfect weather events can only make this year being cold and non-designated a disappointment.

I'm NOT a LIV shill or follower. Having said that, I don't know if it's blind luck or actual intelligence that led LIV to play at LV CC this week. FWIW:

- it may be a bit chilly the rest of the week (50 degrees) BUT no more rain in the forecast so play should go on without a problem

- LV CC may be the most accessible golf course for anyone staying on the Strip. It is literally behind the Westgate. So - take the Las Vegas Monorail to the Westgate, walk out the back entrance of the Race & Sports Book, and you are on the street (Joe W. Brown) that enters the LV CC.

- From the rooftop of the Westgate parking garage, you can see a couple of holes. There is very little room for spectators on those holes FWIW. LV CC is an old golf course (it was featured in CASINO (1995) and has held tournaments for many years. How many holes you can see as a spectator, I have no idea as I have never been there.

Nit note, Las Vegas National was the course featured in Casino.

hmm...

admittedly I have never played either course but have driven by both millions of times. I've only heard that the golf course scenes were filmed at LV CC. This is an example of such a rumor -

4. “$100, whoever hits the plane.”
We finish up with some of our favorite scenes, and, trust me, it was a chore boiling it down to just four of them.

We most certainly could not leave out the part when an FBI airplane runs out of gas while following Nicky during a round of golf and has to the land the plane on the fairway, right in front on Ace's house.

The real Lefty did indeed own a home on a golf course, but this scene was not filmed there. The actual 3,266-square-foot house located at 972 Vegas Valley Drive on Las Vegas Country Club went up for sale in October for $835,000 and a sale is pending, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

LV National is in kind of a cheap area compared to LV CC so it always made sense to me that LV CC was where the scenes were filmed back then.

Sam's house is located at 3515 Cochise Lane which backs up to LV National. If you pull it up on Google Maps you can see the V-shaped pool in the back. Don't think there's any question about that.

Now, of course it's possible that they filmed the golf course scene, thought there was only one where Sam is out back going over the books with the agents while Nicky and his gang are playing golf and the plane runs out of gas and has to land on the course, somewhere other than the house on Cochise.

Personally, I thought the course the plane landed on looked pretty cheap which fits the bill for LV National. But of course they were trying to make it look like the 70's where courses weren't nearly as well manicured.

I'm 100% sure about the house itself being on LV National, the filming of the golf course not so much.

Ninja edit, in real life the FBI plane did land on LVCC in 1981, there is a replica of it in a pond on the course. Where they filmed that scene in Casino at, I don't know.

Everything I google keeps coming up only with LV National.

well I've learned something new today. Checked it out and that definitely is the house, at least from the exterior.

have to wonder if Monahan and his peeps in Ponte Vedra Beach are slowly coming to the realization that they can't get into a business relationship w a despicable and despised authoritarian

Yeah but isn't it great to watch Bernd Weisberger hit a 7 iron while Avicii is blaring in the background?
Nobody has ever had to apologize for belonging to this tour.
Until now I guess.

He should fake another heart attack like Urban Meyer.

DJ, Rahm and Bryson final group tomorrow should be great viewing.

You shut your dirty mouth, Novak, Taylor, and McNealy are what the real golf fans should be interested in. They're the ones playing for world ranking points.... 😉

Pretty good crowds

Ha I had DJ and finally win on LIV. That course was tough today. Cold, windy, thick rough. Meanwhile the PGA has been given the misfortune of Pebble and the WMPO into total duds b2b weeks. If 2-3 more big name guys go to LIV then the PGA Tour is in deep ****

Sounds like AK will be playing next week. Will be interesting to see how much rust he has.

I'd be very surprised if he beat 10 players. It's next to impossible to jump back into competitive golf after 10+ years, the travel, the hotels, the routine, etc.

With his party lifestyle, I can't help but wonder if he needs the money.

He's going to Saudi, I'm sure the travel/hotels will be ok. Rumours are he's been shooting low 60's the last few months, he swing still looks amazing. I think it'll more the mental side and pressure of competitive golf he'll be rusty with.

Everyone needs the money, what a silly comment. But I thought I read somewhere his insurance payments are over, so why not go back to playing?

Tournament golf is all a package deal. Sure it's the stress of competition but it's also everything else like I mentioned. Doesn't matter how nice the flight and hotel is, it's still different. A different routine vs. just being at home. Also jet lag, when was the last time he played after crossing multiple time zones?

The look of his swing means absolutely nothing. What he's been shooting in casual rounds means absolutely nothing. There's tons of guys who can't crack Korn Ferry that we could say the same thing about.

The insurance settlement is the interesting part of this. For 10 years it was thought that he was paid $20MM if he never played golf again, but he would lose that money if he teed it up competitively. If I was paid that amount of money I could live on it until I die. But I don't think he can with his lifestyle.

Oh ya, not disagreeing with any of that. Just saying it's not like he hasn't done it before or he's throwing his clubs in the trunk to travel the mini tour circuit.

Yes, I know there are a ton of talented golfers out there. But not with the pedigree of Anthony Kim who was once considered one of the most talented golfers on the planet.

Good for you. Almost 100 pro golfers have made 20 million on the PGA Tour, basically all of them still play when able, many still play the Champions Tour. Maybe he's feeling healthy or his game feels good again or he just wants to compete again. A friend of mine who made over 20M playing hockey turned down insurance and continued to play for 3 years after an injury.

Pretty cool to see AK back. Hope he does well and continue to play. Appears to be a family guy with a young girl now. Far cry from he signed with "LIV because he parties and needs the money" some resentful posters claim.

Hey just because he has a wife and a kid does not mean the partying stops. For reference see Tiger Woods 😀

I hope he does well I found him very likable on tour
