In the rookiest of moves, I lost my prescription glasses in the ocean within an hour of arriving at the Cancun resort last week (blind without them). Lol @ me, ldo.

glasses + ocean are never a good combination. even if you have something around them to keep them on, waves are stronger than most people realize and can pull that off easily

My wife has lost so many sunglasses to the ocean that we constantly joke about purposely offering the ocean gods a pair upon arrival. Literally seconds before it happened I thought to myself "I really shouldn't be attempting to catch any waves cuz I got my glasses on", but then a really sweet wave came in, so whattaya gonna do?

Wait, so
1. You surf?
2. You were surfing with glasses on?

How are you spoda check out the culonas if theyre all blurry?

If by "surf" you mean attempting to throw my body into like a 2 foot wave and having it push me 5 feet forward, then yes, I surf.

ETA: First 3 days were the only "safe" days you could get in the ocean, and after that it got quite windy / choppy / wavy and the resort life guards would blow whistles at you if you ventured past the first crashing wave (something I would have been semi-comfortable doing in my younger days, but not now and with a temporary ******ed shoulder / arm / hand).

Far and away the number one drawback.

I love body surfing. And doing dumb stuff. But not sure I’ve been dumb enough to bodysurf with sunglasses

Either way, we live and learn

Meh, just go with it. You’re still in Cancun, where it’s probably like 85 and sunny every day as opposed to Canada, which is probably like 4 with 8’ of snow in the forecast.

GG, I too am very blurry w/o r/x glasses. I assume you have both clear ones and sunglasses like I do?

Not sure what ‘go with it’ refers to but I wouldn’t be going out too far in choppy surf conditions with only one shoulder. Particularly as someone like gg who I’m assuming is rarely in/by the ocean

I’ve got a lot more conservative in the past 5 years when bodysurfing. I love going out into deep water when it gets bigger and always do it with fins (flippers) on anyway and I have a lot of experience in the ocean but even then, I just don’t **** around with it in the wrong conditions any more. The ocean is just way too savage and unforgiving

We got 5” of snow yesterday and it’s only 16 Freedom degrees here right now.

Looking forward to Vegas in 11 days.

GG wore RX shades into the water? I cannot imagine that. My latest script shades were about $700. Part Oakley's, part would you like the $#%^ magic feature? but mostly because my eyes are out of whack. Last time I did this I counted 10 trips to Optometrist, Walmart Optical, Private Optical.

I just wear clip on shades over my prescription glasses (nitlife). Just before catching the wave I thought "man, that would suck if my clip on shades fell off". Really didn't intend to catch anything with my glasses on and was just going to bob in the ocean for a while, but my inner 12 year old boy got the better of me in the moment, really stupid.

Even though I'm a decent swimmer (I grew up on a lake), I rarely get to play in the ocean waves, so I'm very conservative even at my healthiest when attempting to body surf (think LLSNL of body surfing, nothing more). But smart enough to know not to **** with an ocean I might not be able to handle, especially compromised.

Got to use my first aid training today. Had a guy collapse in the library, with red liquid coming out his mouth and nose. Fortunately, not blood, but still very concerning. Turned out he's had an allergic reaction to an energy drink or something, and between his throat swelling up and the puke, he couldn't breathe.

I was able to establish an airway via the jaw-thrust method, as he was way too stiff and I was way to worried he might puke again and then choke on it to use the chin-lift. Once he could breathe again, he recovered pretty quickly. Scary as hell for a couple of minutes, though.

That's awesome CmDr. I had not heard of that method. Do you know what drink it was?

No thanks! I was madly looking around for anyone who seemed more qualified than me, and only jumped in when I realized I was a as good as it got.

No. Only that it was light red. Once the medical professionals got there, I peaced out, since I didn't really have anything to add, didn't want to get in the way, and had a ridic adrenaline rush to deal with.

With marshmallows or without?

Marshmallows are gross. Real ones, even grosser. At least if they are melted in hot chocolate they don't have that icky texture anymore. They still leave your mouth coated in a weird sugary/greasy coating for hours, though.

Without. Always without.

Try dark-chocolate hot chocolate. Much better than milk chocolate.
