lul at comparing him to someone grinding a 9 to 5. he literally said on the vlog that he doesn't need the money. so he'd only be going to chase down a meaningless award. congrats

Probably a better comparison would be to a star professional athlete who has to go on long road trips. These people probably don’t “need the money” either.

Like, if a top-ranked tennis player’s wife had a kid a month before Wimbledon, would you criticize them for playing in it?

The distinction there being a top rated tennis player has a limited window and Danny is on his 4th set of hair plugs

But yeah, athletes get criticized for stuff like that all the time

so, what's the latest cope in here now dnegs won a bracelet and 7 figs this summer?

Pro athletes being criticized for playing their sport? As someone who follows a lot of sports, it's hard for me to recall any instance of such a thing. I guess one time that kinda fits is Tom Brady when he un-retired, he took heat for that, but that was more because he was going back on a promise he had made to Gisele

Looks like the geniuses are back on hair plugs, which by the way I'm quite sure he never technically got.

Pro athletes typically get/take one or days of paternity leave

Where did the hair plug thing come from? And when did Daniel get a beard? Only serious answers, please.

I never said he was a bad player. I said he is a narcissistic pos. So attacking his hair surgery seems pertinent considering I think hes a narcissist. The distinction between plugs or transplant is moot.

I just scratch my head at stuff like if he had to play poker for a living without the sponsorship he play 100/200 mix or whatever. He's had great success at 25K (and below ) mix, plo, and nlhe tournaments consistently throughout his career. He'd just play those, but of course he would probably lower variance like others do and sell stakes and do swaps.

And if/when he did supplement with cash it would be higher stakes where it would be private or semi private (Curated BS.)[/QUOTE]

I think you're misunderstanding me. Without debating the possibility of him beating 25ks without a sponsorship (cause he does have it). I was stating that if he needed to he surely could support himself through a sizeable cash game to make a living. I thought that was the argument, whether he was a "winning player ". As I said above, he's clearly competitive at the highest level even if he's just a small loser or break even. I don't care who you are, making a really n8cr living playing high stakes tournament poker is a tall task. I think you have to almost always supplement your income through cash games.

I was ultimately agreeing with your sentiment, I think you've become so accustomed to everyone attacking your stance to saw what I said as disagreeing.

I do feel when speaking of his success overall, you cant just completely discount the sponsorship from PokerStars to GG for 20 years. My uneducated guess would think it could be worth 80-100 million over that time frame plus travel expenses.

He earned it in sure, but he is also the only player in history to maintain a full on sponsorship through most of his entire poker playing career. And don't think that sponsorship doesn't severely impact his playing ability.

My previous post I was only speaking about his career.

Edit: i guess Moneymaker might be the other

For this WSOP, he cashed in the $25K HU, meaning he won his first 3 matches against a tough field. Cashed in the $10K 27NLSD, which usually has a tough field. Cashed in the $10K limit holdem, the $25K PLO, the $50K PLO, and the $10K PLO. Final tabled the $600 PLO/NLHE, the $25K PLO/NLHE, and the $250K NLHE. Won the $100K PLO.

Six of his 14 cashes were in PLO or PLO/NLHE, and he seemed to cash in every high stakes PLO event, so maybe it is his jam, even though he doesn't play it correctly.

He had 13 cashes in the 2025 and 2024 WSOPs, 20 cashes in the 2023 WSOP, and 12 in the 2022 WSOP.

He seems to be showing some results for a losing player and has quieted some detractors for now. Maybe some other big names don't show results like that.

- got rich not from the tables, but building his brand to get sponsored and become the most recognized and followed poker player in the world

- but how much did he lose in the previous 5 years?

- can't beat 200 NL online

- variance

It was a long time ago now, but some people forget or are unaware that Daniel built his brand from the ground up, in large part starting an online playing site and poker discussion forum, Full Contact Poker. He sold it for a handsome fee to Pokerstars and then became a 'Stars sponsored pro. That he's grown his popularity in the two decades since is a remarkable reflection of obtaining business success while no longer being strictly dependent on results at the table.

Sure, he's not one of the very best NLHE players in the world anymore, but he's still out there doing it. And yes, his vlog can be an annoying ego trip, and so I only watch it rarely. But credit where credit is due, and my hat's off to him for winning the PPC and the PLO High Roller bracelets.

While I don't think he's "bottom Tier 1" in PLO like he now seems to claim, I think an edge he has is that the high roller fields for PLO are going to be filled with..........tournament grinders. They don't necessarily grasp the board interactions, etc. of PLO. They just understand aggression and position. If enough of those fields are filled with poo-flinging NLH monkeys who don't really understand PLO concepts, having a reasonable understanding of the game can give you an edge.

Hold Em players are often far too likely to overvalue hands that are strong in Hold Em, that are weak in PLO. In hold em if the flop is KJ6 and you have pocket 6's you're fist-pumping. If it's PLO you're probably going to lose a bunch of money if there's significant action, more often than not.

Tournament PLO is different from cash PLO. In cash PLO, 7 people limp in and call a 4!. In tournament PLO, except if they are gambling during the rebuy period, the play tends to be tight. There are shallow stacks and ICM issues. If cash PLO players could crush the high stakes PLO events, more of them would play in them.

There are people who have made a science of NLHE MTTs, partly using GTO. In PLO and mixed game MTTs, Negreanu still has a big edge. This is due to knowing the games, but also his tournament skills and ability to adapt to those games in a tournament format.
