Trolls aren't the main reason. Other forums like on RIO are deader. Poker is not as booming. People don't want to share high level strategy. People spend their time with solvers and watching videos.

NVG was a lot worse in the poker boom, with people who mainly watched poker on TV posting.

The reason its dead is that everyone who actually has serious discussions about poker (or any topic) does so in various discord channels dedicated to poker and not with random nobodies on 2+2 Web forums are mostly outdated. They have a nostalgic charm for me personally though.

Some people are so bad at adjusting and thinking on the fly its baffling. Like you can have some guy who is crushing a live low stakes NL game, seems like a great player. Doesnt even have to be a nit, can be willing to fire some good aggressive bluffs for stacks. But then that same guy will get his panties in a twist and literally sit out instead of playing if you introduce more "unstudied" elements like bomb pots, 7-2 game or stand up game. Even though people on average play even worse with tho

I actually had someone ruin a game last night by not doing a bomb pot. A fun player who was stuck heaps wanted one. One refused to do it and refused to just sit out and let us do one without him. This lead to a back and forth with him and the fun player who left a few hands later with his 2 buddies that weren't quite as bad but pretty bad.

Introducing random twists to the game make the game so much better.
Studied players objecting to something unstudied will never get it.
It's actually amazing they're so scared of something they haven't studied when even if they're not good at it they should still be better than the bad players are at it.

And you're right people with that mentality never would have been good 20 years ago.

This is why 2+2 is a fn ghost town now compared to its heyday. No wonder this place is dead, save for a mild uptick during WSOP.

Thanks Fly!

Anyone one else have a Stake in DNegs Summer Package on Poker Stake and then you get it all taken away? It was my first time getting through and I got a piece .01% then I found out today they took it all away. Who else had this happend to them?

The real question here is:

Spoiler

Everyone uses discord servers now. Its pretty simple.

What's a discord server?

The community is probably older on average compared to 10 years ago, which means less time/motivation for forum posting.

Highly doubtful GG buys him directly into tournaments. I'd say his sponsorship is way more than $2m (I would guess $6M). Probably has some clause in contract that he has to vlog every day during WSOP and fire all of the high buy-in stuff.

Agree.

I don't know anything about his compensation, but the notion that GG buys him into his events comes up every year. Clearly, 2024 is no exception. So while it is theoretically possible that the situation has changed, I'd just like to repost this as a reference point:

by Wilbury Twist k

I would have assumed this arrangement, as yes, it's quite reasonable given his previous arrangement with PokerStars.

However, there's also this:

And...

Granted, the former doesn't disprove the notion that GG picks up the tab. In fact, you can conclude this is what is meant by "I don’t need/care about buy ins." The latter isn't a lock, either, as not getting freerolled could simply mean it's not a free ticket – that is, not free to the sponsor.

There's also this:

Of course, there's always

DNegs has a deal that is worded in such a way that he can claim "Im playing with my own money". But if its in his contract that he has to play all WSOP events including highrollers, and he has negotiated lets say 1.5m salary extra in return, then GG might as well pay his buyins.. Very likely something like this is the case.

If he didnt fire WSOP highrollers he would be paid significantly less by GG.

Not saying you're wrong, but source?

Im speculating. But very likely its the case. If DNegs were truly just playing highrollers of his own volition he would be playing more Triton events... I know hes been playing like SHRB as well, but it just seems very likely that there is some kind of contractual obligation going on about the WSOP tournaments. Ofc he would never come out and say "GG is paying my WSOP buyins" because that would look bad for his brand, but if he has negotioted a salary that takes into account that he is obligated to pay highrollers, its just semantics.

Surely it’s not even that complex? He knows that the wsop success is what really builds his brand and so he chases that success at almost any cost because a losing year with a bracelet or a deep ME run or whatever pays back multiple times over?

Like honestly, who cares who wins a Triton in Rozvadof or Lisbon or wherever?

Yeah. I agree with your take over the one you quoted. He doesn't play triton because no one cares about triton. Wsop bracelets are what bring him notoriety .

I think it’s more simplistic than that. He doesn’t want the hassle of jetting off to far away places only to get smoked in high-buyin events by the solver nerd crowd.

He’ll play WSOP, the events at PokerGo studio, and whatever else is also in Vegas. Really his only travel is to Atlantis for WSOP Bahamas (he doesn’t go to WSOP Rozvadov anymore), and either Cabo/Vancouver to play the big GG online series.

Its a forum so yea I'll write what I think. If you dont give a **** about DNegs maybe you can gtfo the thread ****ing moron.

Daniel has been playing the same frantic WSOP schedule since long before he signed with GG. He plays it because he lives in Vegas, he likes the prestige of the bracelets and the POY race, etc., and he just enjoys playing a lot of different games. He doesn’t play many Tritons because they are low prestige and he doesn’t want to be travelling all over the place all the time. I think he also enjoys the celebrity status he enjoys at the WSOP but wouldn’t get at Triton.

I don’t think there’s any reason to believe GG sets any requierements on the WSOP events Daniel must play, or directly buys him into anything.

I imagine they pay him a lot of money because they know he’ll be playing a ton of events regardless. It would -not- surprise me if the production of the WSOP vlogs were part of his GG contract (both that he has to make them, and GG might provide assistance with the production), as this is the biggest way he plugs the brand.

Nice to see you my man, haven’t for a long time

by NickMPK k

Daniel likes the prestige of a WSOP bracelet and the POY race

Daniel winning one WSOP bracelet this decade has him covered for the rest of his career.
Now if Daniel can just have one winning WSOP series before he retires, that would be nice.
