President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

We are truly ****ing lost if low-brow parodies have become our preferred form of resistance

by coordi

I don't think my post insinuated that we have a binary choice to make but at least Newsome is doing *something* other than ineffectively pointing out that things aren't great

I'm also not convinced that lampooning the administration isn't effective in making fringe maga take a step back if even for just a moment

You aren't taking any maga same as republicans are never going to get any vote from the wokes.

But there is all the rest of the nation and that's a ton of people.

by Rococo

My views have nothing to do with decorum or "going high."

I guess I'm not clear on what exactly you disapprove of here; I thought it was Gavin's trolling social media campaign. I find it mildly annoying but if it works I really don't give a damn how candidates conduct themselves on Twitter.

Again, it's not my preference. I'll gladly vote for the guy who gets the job done with regular boring political campaigning. I don't see that guy right now and I'll be darned it I'm going to tone police the only Dem who appears to be making headway.

He is gerrymandering midcycle by removing a popular "independent" commission to do so at the same time to increase your chances in 2026, it's not like he only put a bunch of z gen people in charge of his social media.

by Luciom

You need the whole party hellbent on winning at all costs, with no other ethics other than winning, with winning as the absolute moral imperative. Because believe me, that's how the other side won.

This is what I fear the most… Just a dual descent into the abyss

If you're saying that parodying maga could be an effective tool in offering a sobering moment of reflection on their behalf, instead of motivating them to crank up the heat against you guys then I will say that I disagree.

Many of the people I know who voted for Trump claim its because Trump was funny in a strong man type of way and Kamala was annoying

We can debate if thats a ******ed mentality for voting for President (it is) but ultimately its how they (claim) voted

Personally, I'm more afraid of ICE throwing my trans friends into an alligator pit than the moral decay of the Democratic Party (which is already a moral cesspit btw?).

by Luciom

[QUOTE=Rococo;59085634]So it's more than fine to comment on the trolling, but the only analysis should be "does it increase or decrease our chances to win in 2028"

I don't think it increases the Democratic Party's chances of winning in 2028. I think that I have been clear on that point.

by Crossnerd

If democrats play to win, Trump and company can get away with LESS BULLSHIT, because they have to cater to every last vote for real.

The weaker the democratic party is at winning elections the more republicans can do insane things basically when they govern (the opposite is true as well)

Viewing it as a game is the poisonous heart of the issue

Grandma used to say "If it's worth fighting for, it's worth fighting dirty for."

This isn’t even dirty. The intent of the newsom posts isn’t near 1:1 of the intent of Trump posts intended messaging

To mock in this case isn’t to fall into a comparable cesspit

by Luciom

Instead IT SHOULD because that's exactly what you need to win back the house in 2026, and the rest in 2028.

You need the whole party hellbent on winning at all costs, with no other ethics other than winning, with winning as the absolute moral imperative. Because believe me, that's how the other side won.

You’re cartoonishly evil

I haven't paid much attention to the trolling because it's kinda cheesy and not really done well. But it's long overdue for someone to come directly at trump ruthlessly. Newsom's not really he guy imo I don't really think he has what it takes. But someone needs to do it.

It always has been.

I will fall off my log backwards if imitating Trump's trolling causes fringe maga to take a step back.

by Rococo

This is your proof that you are correct? Amazing.

You think I think I have proof? And there no reason to continue this derail.

I pretty much agree with Crossnerd on this issue, which she can confirm is not always the case. I view what Newsom is doing as unserious, unlikely to be effective in helping the Democrats win a general election, and unlikely to be effective as a form of resisting Trump's agenda. Is it possible that my perspective is clouded by my utter disdain for trolling as an art form? Perhaps. But my views have nothing to do with decorum. I don't much care if Newsom talks about Trump in a respectful way. But like I said earlier today, this not-sure-if-serious dumb**** trolling is a terrible form of political discourse. I ****ing hate it. Truly. If I thought it would be an effective way to counter Trump and the rest of the MAGA movement, I would tolerate it. But I have zero confidence on that point.

I agree. I don't really respect your opinion on this issue, and it sounds like the feeling is mutual.

by coordi

The moral high ground lost the Dems the 2024 election and has seen them get victim blamed by every centrist for 2 years straightThe Republican party as a culture is gone. There is nothing connecting the current party to pre-2012. Y'all are drinking the koolaid if you think the Dems can just stay the course and stay relevantI'd love for someone like Pete Buttigieg just talk co

Pete Buttigieg common sense? Like this?

There is nothing that can be done for maga.
They are lost , period .
But 50% of Americans who voted for trump aren’t all maga , those are the ones that count imo .

Sounds pretty good. Normally I would assume you are being sarcastic but I feel like you should agree with what he’s saying.

It's one of the most insane and depraved things I have ever seen
