So democrats in the senate completly caved to republicans' requests and allowed the continuing resolution to pass without changes, because the idea is that if the government goes into shutdown because of the debt ceiling, trump has the legal power to decide what to cut priority-wise (except debt repayment which comes first and is a constitutional mandate).
So republicans, having shown the willto cut government a lot, have democrats by the balls basically.

The budget is decided by congress, and i am very aware that the tiny house majority republicans have doesn't allow for cuts to defense. + a lot of senators would oppose that as well.

The idea that we are ever going to reduce govt spending and reduce our debt is pure fantasy. We are in Weimar Republic territory. The only way this gets fixed is if everything collapses and the dollar becomes worthless. For good or bad, Trump does seem to be making steps that make this more likely, so in a very roundabout way you can argue he is taking steps to fix the problem.

Donald Trump has signed an order to strip back the federally funded news organisation Voice of America, accusing it of being "anti-Trump" and "radical".
A White House statement said the order would "ensure taxpayers are no longer on the hook for radical propaganda", and included quotes from politicians and right-wing media railing against the "leftist", "partisan" VOA.
VOA, still primarily a radio service, was set up during World War Two to counter Nazi propaganda. It is used by hundreds of millions of people around the world.

As far as acts of Congress go, the main presidential power is to persuade. Trump right now has pretty much unlimited power over the bootlicking Republicans in Congress.

They either agree with him or they are deathly afraid if they go against him he will tell his sheeple to vote for someone else. People in congress - especially Representatives - are all about getting reelected. We are in a situation now where that means bowing to the idiot in charge.
