President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Implicit in your language is the idea that rural culture is ITSELF backwards and produces a disproportionate number of low-intelligence humans. For it to be otherwise, you would have to separate "affirmative action rurals like Vance" from the rest of those within rural culture... but then, why would you assume that the Vance-style rurals necessarily have a problem with insufficiently high levels of intelligence for high-minded and/or scientific work, like you allude to in your last sentence? T

I don’t think Vance could have succeeded in solid state physics based on how he talks and writes. That’s the point. Having a compelling story about overcoming rural culture can help you get into Yale law and graduate without honors. Designing a novel pcb not so much. Transistors won’t go easier on you because your mom was an addict or you don’t come from a background that typically makes it in science.

I think you should consider that mass poverty may be the primary cause of problems in rural areas, instead of this reactionary idea that there's something inherently wrong and backwards with rural culture.

lol, part of the reason these people live in mass poverty is their ancestors fled urban centers for ideological reasons in the 50s-60s and they now find themselves blocked out of the resources and opportunities those places provide.

Incidentally, the ENTIRE THESIS of ya boy Vance's book is that rural culture is driving poverty, like if you think ecriture is harsh on Rust Belt culture, you really don't want to hear about what JD has to say about these people. The entire book is an exercise in telling Pennsyltucky dipshits to pull up their pants and work harder.

Everybody knows that. That doesn't mean that they have an inferior culture or are necessarily less intelligent than those from urban areas, as ecriture implied.

Who do you think you're replying to?!? Do you think I'm a Republican? "You really don't want to hear..." Are you a local newscaster giving a somber warning to parents about what their kids are getting up to?

Yeah, I KNOW that's what his book is about. That's practically the basis of my entire criticism. Ecriture is doing the liberal version of what JD does in Hillbilly Elegy. That's why I called Ecriture "Mr. Cosby", as in Bill Cosby, who was known for constantly complaining about the culture of black Americans and how it allegedly keeps them in poverty (less so now)

wat

Is your problem that I was being too generous, and I should have said "millions"?

Seems likely.

It's not gay if you don't watch each other, right?

For real though, microbet is right. There is no echo chamber, it just appears that way because normal people despise MAGA turds.

Don't think gay, but sure. Doesn't matter either way.

Echo chamber of despisers. Gotcha.

this place is already a circle jerk, but imagine the valhalla of the masturbatorium if people like BJ weren't here inciting riots.

BJ shouldn't be banned because people should be able to say what they want and others should be able to deal with it, but your point is stupid and wrong. BJ, and those like him, unify a lot of people who would otherwise disagree.

Basically this

When one side is abject stupidity, even when the not-abject stupidity disagrees on a lot of things amongst each other, they can at least find commonality disagreeing with the abject stupidity

Calling something an echo chamber cuz there is unilateral disagreement to swallowing Trump’s cum is certainly a choice

Girls are too emotional.

Here is another interesting part of the tariffs (that are not really tariffs but are deficit taxes) .

Andrew Chang with CBC pointed out that there seems to be lots of countries on Trump's chart that are exactly at 10%, and Trump is charging these countries 10% (not 5%).

It turns out that all the 10% countries are ones that the US has a trade surplus with (The US is ripping them off, in his words). But, he is charging them 10% anyway.. lol

Can this get any stranger??

You're gonna have to help me out here.

How many people live in your "rural" areas of USA#1 ??

Trump said 10% was the minimum

Trump is quickly becoming wildly unpopular. If democracy survives this stupidity, I don't see how they don't lose yugely during midterms and the next presidential election.

Nintendo Fans Blame Trump After Switch 2 Delayed in U.S. Due to Tariffs: 'Worst President of US History'
"Now it'll cost a billion dollars, thanks orange man," one user wrote.
Morgan Music / Published Apr 04 2025, 2:08 PM EDT

Nintendo fans erupted in frustration Friday after the company announced it would delay preorders for the highly anticipated Switch 2 console in the United States—citing President Donald Trump's tariffs as the reason.

Set to launch globally on June 5, the Switch 2 carries a $449 price tag, already higher than most fans expected for the Nintendo console. But now, U.S. gamers won't be able to preorder on the originally scheduled date of April 9, as the company re-evaluates pricing amid rising import costs.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions," Nintendo said in a statement, while confirming the launch date remains unchanged.

...

Online, users were quick to fault Trump for the disruption. "Say thank you to the worst president of US history," one user wrote on X, with another declaring, "Trump ruining things as usual."

"I hate everyone who voted for Trump," a user said, spreading the blame to include Trump's supporters. "If you're a US gamer and you voted for Trump (or didn't vote at all), the Switch 2 pricing and pre-order delay **** is 100% on you," another user accused.

Many pointed out that the Switch 2 is already rumored to be priced higher in the U.S. than in international markets, and some speculated that the console could easily push past $500 stateside if Nintendo adjusts for the new tariff costs.

"Now it'll cost a billion dollars, thanks orange man," quipped one gamer. "Another reason why TARIFFS ARE BAD!!!!!" a frustrated Nintendo fan wrote.

The uproar is one of the first major consumer-facing consequences of Trump's revived trade war.

While gamers are disappointed by the news, some cautioned that there could be more disappointment coming down the pipeline. "Get ready because this is only the beginning of everything taking a significant jump in price."

lots

So, your problem here is that my obviously casual language was insufficiently accurate? That's why you laughed at and insulted me? If so, that's very deeply stupid and petty.

Vance is right as usual

They are focusing on trade protectionism and gutting education, so I guess 1 outa 3 aint bad

Also trotting out Hackerman as an example of Republican intelligence is hilarious

Ain't need no education when you got ai.
Need to protect the ai.

Idiots asking Grok to summarize things they don't understand and thinking that is deep education is a new plague to society

Had a guy try to insist Buffet loves tariffs because he wrote an article in 2003 lamenting the trade deficit and suggesting Import Credits despite the fact they aren't the same thing and Buffet notorioiusly hate import tariffs because Grok

Someone who hasn't read many book reviews.

Did I say you were? What an odd question.

"You really don't want to hear..." Are you a local newscaster giving a somber warning to parents about what their kids are getting up to?

I'm just a guy explaining the absurdity of you shitting on ecriture while praising JD for saying mostly the same kinds of things about rural Americans. JD is actually even more condescending toward these people and even less willing to acknowledge the role that globalization has had in driving Rust Belt poverty, if you can believe it.

Obviously... now in hindsight.

insufficiently accurate..... your rural number "in the hundreds of thousand of non-Trump supporters" is ABSURDLY inaccurate.

You are a either the most dishonest person I've ever met or merely incredibly stupid. I go back and forth.

I've never praised that ****ing scumbag in my life. You are functionally semi-literate at best, so you probably counted my observation "JD Vance got into Yale, wrote a hit book, and clearly succeeded within his wretched little world. He's an intelligent person". The first sentence is simply a factual recounting of his accomplishments. The second is the use of logic to make an assertion that he's an intelligent person (relative to average, in case you're so ****ing obtuse you need this to be said). Did you miss the "wretched little world" part? Could that be a clue that I think he's a piece of ****?

Is this English? This random collection of random words?

You wanna try again in a language someone else can understand, you stupid British hippie-ass crusty-ass reactionary?

Pedantically bitching about the same kind of casually inaccurate language everybody else uses (including you). What a ****ing pathetic dork. Next time you want to laugh, ask one of the boarding-school boys you bugger to tell you a joke.

Then put me on ignore, babe. Life's too short to get as worked up as you seem to be.

I'm not easily moved by doom and gloom documentaries, nor do I watch much documentaries for that matter. However, I stumbled over a documentary on forever chemicals which was horrifying. So, to do my due diligence I looked up a fair bit of research on the issue. While further research is certainly needed simply due to massive amount of different chemicals of this type we use, the short version is that the reality of things was much, much worse.

Removing these bans is lunacy.
