Who is following the Old Testament these days? Even Orthodox Jews and Christians have modernized their practices. Being totally ignorant of all context is getting old, you don’t have any other schticks trolly?

They stopped practicing animal sacrifice in 70 AD because the 2nd Temple was destroyed by the Romans. It wasn’t a matter of modernizing their practices. For example, many Orthodox practice Kapparot which is a type of ritual atonement that involves slaughtering a rooster after waving it over the person’s head that is donating it.

It’s nigh impossible to have a legitimate conversation itt. Do you know any Jews who are clamoring for the reinstatement of animal sacrifice? The religion clearly underwent modernization and reformation to adapt with changing times. Judaism does not take the Old Testament literally.

Some Christians whip themselves, is that a central tenant of Christianity? Of course there are Jewish religious nuts. The vast majority of Jews have never sacrificed a chicken so let’s try to keep the conversation rooted in reality.

If/when The Temple is rebuilt, animal sacrifice will resume. They've been patiently waiting for almost 2,000 years.

There are plans already in place to begin rebuilding the Temple immediately if/when the Temple Mount is reclaimed by Israel.

Orthodox and Reformed Jewish practices are clearly going to be different. But the Orthodox clearly still take certain strictures seriously like kosher slaughter, which involves slitting a cow’s throat and draining all the blood on the ground. Those practices haven’t changed for instance so I don’t see why they wouldn’t take up the Temple practices if it came down to it.

If you’re going to complain about people not knowing about Judaism but commenting, probably not a good idea to bring up practices that were never normative in the Church. That was also Catholic so it was never practiced by Orthodox or Protestants, and that sort of atonement practice was a late innovation so it’s sort of the opposite of what we’re talking about here.

In any case, yes there aren’t Old Testament Jews because they have the Talmud, which is central to Rabbinic Judaism (aka post-2nd Temple Judaism).

There certainly are Jews who plan to rebuild the Temple and resume animal sacrifice according to, y'know, 'God's law'. They are very serious about it. Not sure how they're going to persuade enough Cohens to become Levites again. (They would presumably have to be Cohens.) Some of these people think that a mystical pure red heifer will appear and offer herself to show that the time has come. At the moment it's all a bit fringe, but, the way Israel's going, God knows.

You guys are just proving my point tbh. Do you guys actually know any Jews or Israelis in real life or are you in here lecturing based on what you’ve googled? Most Jews have no interest in rebuilding the temple, and if they do an even smaller subset is interested in resuming animal sacrifices.

Maybe these extremist Orthodox Jews are more influential in Israel and AIPAC than I am giving them credit for, but I would guess your run of the mill Zionist has little interest in reestablishing animal sacrifice.

Jewish understanding of the Old Testament is not literal but based on interpretations by religious scholars and 99% of Christians have never read the Bible, let alone the Old Testament.

Trump clearly got very angry with Netanyahu in that phone call on Monday. He's not the first president to find Netanyahu frustrating, and he flip-flops all the time, but it was a distinct bust-up. And 60% of Americans now have a negative opinion of Israel, up by nearly half on the 42% before the Gaza war, so there could be a tectonic shift coming.

Maybe lefties shouldn’t have called people racist, antisemetic, transphobic, islamophobic so much so that it couldn’t be used as a weapon.

Of course Israel is spying on us and probably increased their efforts, as is every other country in the world. What do you expect foreign intelligence agencies to do when Trump has gutted our national security and basically left the door open for them?
