Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
2 questions in regards to the last paragraph.
1. Why do people keep saying “the rest of the world wants x” whilst Israel is receiving aid from the part of the world that “matters”?
2. Why should Israel even care? I’ve read numerous times in this thread that Israel doesn’t need the aid. Why care what anyone else says?
It’s all just so contradictory to what is currently happening.
1) Because we are doing nothing to Qatar and we are paying UNRWA, which directly funds hamas
2) because they can't deal with Gaza + WB + Hezbollah + Iran +western money used against it all at the same time
Yeah that's the problem for Israel, Hamas does negotiate in good faith, the problem is they don't budge much on their demands so Israel will continue to try and bomb them into submission.
Bro... if you're being serious, you're really really far from understanding this issue, or reasoning through the likelihood of the problem.
You can start w/ Hamas breaking the cease fire on 10/7 and killing, raping, and burning 1200 Israelis on their own soil. There was a cease fire negotiated, and like they've done hundreds of times before, Hamas broke it.
I've seen ZERO evidence of Hamas negotiating in good faith. I honestly don't even know if I've heard of a Hamas/Palestine supporter even taking that position.

Hamas makes their, as Dunyain says, maximalist demands or something pretty clear. Obviously Israel isn't going to accept them and they're miles apart as any starting point for negotiations but they're up front about it. That is what I mean by good faith. Sorry if that's the wrong terminology.
Let me guess, they define a 17 year old terror insurgent as “children”
Lmao I wrote that before looking up the case and that’s exactly what happened

Nothing makes your credibility go down more as a human rights org than to classify shooting down a 17 year old who was defending a terrorist with other terrorists at his side as “killing children”

Yes that's the left
All the kids were terrorists he says!
Unsurprisingly HRW paints a different picture using actual evidence.

They also mention the murder of an American citizen by the IDF in 2022. Unsurprisingly it didn't get nearly as much condemnation as American IDF forces who get taken prisoner.

But there was a gunfight nearby. It's not like the IDF was just driving around shooting people at random.
Viktor is surprised that military age looking men in an active war zone get killed

On you know what’s really amazing about this? They are literally lying about him being 17. I guess when it’s a Palestinian 18 year old hanging out one block from a firefight surrounded by terrorist insurgents, he suddenly becomes an innocent 17 year old at the top of his class.
It’s absolute BS that in the middle of a firefight, someone would be hanging out by a wall. You mean to tell me that a Palestinian person who was in the midst of a year long raid against border cities on the West Bank targeting terrorist insurgents would suddenly forget that maybe you shouldn’t hang out near a firefight with Israeli forces shooting, terrorists shooting, IEDs going off?
The amount of BS you have to swallow to believe this narrative is astounding. No fair court in the land would ever hold any police force guilty of any crime for such an incident. It’s definitely tragic that someone died, but to act like there’s any evidence of malice whatsoever, or even that there isn’t evidence that this “child” (18 by the way) was probably involved with the terrorists he was surrounded by is absurd.
I know if there was an active firefight going on around me, I would probably skip school that day instead of hanging out outside “on my way to school” or whatever you want us to believe.
Also, keep in mind all these details are from alleged "eyewitness" accounts, with no outside verification. Very little chance any of these details are actually true. Most likely he was just one of the militants the IDF was fighting, and was killed in the actual firefight.

The article literally has the word "...and the video showed."
You saw this video? LOL believing anything "Human Rights Watch" claims. How is it they allegedly saw this video, but no one else did? Given how Palestinian propaganda works, the fact the alleged video never saw the light of day is a pretty big red flag it is fake news.
HRW is pro Palestine now? Lol you guys are a trip.
The fact that HRW lied about him being 17 so they could count him as a dead child is truly disgusting already and should make all their subsequent claims subject to intense scrutiny.
Where are you getting that they lied?
HRW is reliable. There are a lot of reasons why a reliable source could be given footage of someone's death but it is not allowed to circulate all over the internet.
https://time.com/7016641/israel-recovers...
Grieving and angry Israelis surged into the streets Sunday night after six more hostages were found dead in Gaza, and demanded — chanting “Now! Now!” — that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reach a cease-fire with Hamas to bring the remaining captives home.
Israel’s largest trade union, the Histadrut, called a general strike for Monday to pressure the government — the first since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack that started the war. The strike is expected to shut down or disrupt major sectors of the economy, including banking, health care and the country’s main airport.
Do we have any links or data of Palestinians protesting the war in Palestine and asking Hamas to end it?
Asking for a friend, of course.

If they are so reliable, why is it that the first case I looked into of “child killing” turned out to be BS? Are they just specially insane when it comes to I/P issues?

With all due respect, HRW, when it comes to Israel, is just not a reliable source.
And its own website is proof of it. There are stark differences in writing styles and required standards of proof when it comes to accusations against Israel vs. accusations against anyone else in the middle east.
This is to say nothing of the long trail of former HRW writers and editors that have pointed out how biased HRW is against Israel for unspecified reasons that over time really sounds a lot like anti-semitism at worst and liberal naivety at best.

Early this year there were protests of Hamas in Gaza, I do not know if they specifically mentioned ending the war. They did not get the same press and we can all guess how Hamas reacted.
