Eat The Rich!
KS- Moved a conversation in Mod Thread about taxing the wealthy.
I don’t think you guys understand how numbers work.
If billionaires were taxed at the same rates as everyone else ALL TAXES would be covered by their contribution
Nobody else would have to pay any taxes ever.
It’s not my fault you haven’t taught yourself to understand economics and how large large numbers work
Blowjob healthcare would save the country money.
So would reparations.
They aren't, the entire "IDW" for example talks about those topics without being fascist.
Can you point me to any leftist sub-group which agrees with the very reactionary take of "the west was better in 1960"? i wasn't joking that's something i never heard from the anglo left at all
I didn't say "talking about those topics"; I described your unhealthy obsession with them.
Yeah you don't creep out of not reading/understanding posts that easily.
Specifying the Fulani as an extreme example was an indication that other peoples might not find that period so rewarding, but then you probably didn't recognise that reference. I'll make sure to spell things out to you in future.
You wrote this nonsense: "the best ever era for humans was ~1950s to 1970s, and by a country mile,"
Are you are spectacularly wrong about it.
I’m not the sure the entire planet ever did great as a whole at the same time .
Usually when someone doing great , someone else isn’t in some other corner of the world .
Someone income is someone else expense .
And this is why both of you are wrong. But I am generous enough to throw pearls.
The number of people living in extreme global poverty has decreased in the last 70 years, with its lowest today. % of humans not living in extreme poverty has increased substantially with the highest % in human history today.

So factually speaking, today 2024, is the best time for humans in history.
You wrote this nonsense: "the best ever era for humans was ~1950s to 1970s, and by a country mile,"
Deliberately misquoting people because you're upset about some silly posts you made isn't a great idea.
I said
Nonsense, the best ever era for humans was ~1950s to 1970s, and by a country mile, if you were a westerner. If you were a Fulani it didn't make much difference.
Those two clauses are qualifiers, because they redefine the initial clause.
And this is why both of you are wrong. But I am generous enough to throw pearls.

That's true iff you think money is the only indication of wellbeing. And as an American conservative, that's obviously what you've been brought up, unquestioningly, to believe, which is very obedient of you. Well done on parotting the propaganda.

I used life expectancy. Is that a bad proxy of wellbeing, and if so why?

He limited it "for westerners", but it's false for them as well, even for white hetero men westerners.
Even for ELITE white hetero men westerners lol, today life is a lot better.
I didn't say "talking about those topics"; I described your unhealthy obsession with them.
I don't have an unhealthy obsession with that, is that I am talking with people like you which I don't spend time with anywhere else, which are obsessed with the opposite.
Among most people I talk with more frequently, I am the open border person, because I don't consider all immigration automatically damaging for a society.
But aside from this forum I never talk with anyone who thinks letting in poor unskilled people in first world countries is a reasonable or intelligent choice for our own self interest
Robert F. Kennedy once said that a country’s GDP measures “everything except that which makes life worthwhile”, and I think he was close to the truth, and it's another variation on saying someone knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I never really talk about immigration except with the far right here for whom it's current bugbear #1, especially when it involves Muslims.

IMHO we are at the peak of globalization (cooperation) economically and when see already some big cracks in it ….
And let’s not forget a lot of that globalize prosperity been created at the expense of many westerner countries by transferring massive amounts of jobs over there …..
There is a reason individual like trump are successful today because vast amount of manufacturing jobs in the « rust bell » for example been given up .
Rust bell is mainly Republicans and they been clobbered for a long time now in that aspect .
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rust_Bel...
What Biden doing now trying to imported those job back in some area is imo a good thing tho will be a bit inflationary of course .
But again , someone income is someone expense and that globalization been paid by many western workers .
So yeah China and India been hourra but many Americans (and others) far less so .
https://prosperousamerica.org/post-pntr-...
The trade deficit with China has cost the U.S. 3.82 million jobs since 2001.
Three-quarters of the job loss is concentrated in manufacturing, a total of 2.89 million manufacturing jobs lost. Job loss has been most concentrated in tradeable sectors. This has led to a decline of high paying jobs.

Globalisation has also been at the expense of housing markets in Chinese cities, pricing the young out until their parents die, and is visible in child labour and adult sweat shops and factories with horrendous working conditions. So as well as a cost to American jobs there's been significant costs to developing world citizens as well as the benefits people focus on. Classic two sided coin.

Wait why would Chinese real estate price skyrocket but not japanese ones given the same globalization and why do you think it's globalization and not Chinese financial repression (making illegal for Chinese residents to invest worldwide, thus funneling most domestic savings into real estate as the only forced main alternative) that caused that.
Which costs lol globalization was one of the best things to ever happen for most of humanity
every human has been poisoned with plastic in their reproductive systems.
we suck
I never really talk about immigration except with the far right here for whom it's current bugbear #1, especially when it involves Muslims.
Man there is no one from the far right in this forum except specifically 2 people, the bj "election stolen" guy (who doesnt talk about immigration much if at all) and the other person who speaks with aliens or whatever giving him secret info about Trump trials and stuff.
There is no one asking to remove women voting rights, deport all non white people (including citizens), there isn't even anyone arguing for no exception abortion ban (and that would be one american every 8). There aren't even rightwing antisemites which are common in the far right, you know the "maga voter who agrees with jalfrezi on Israel" kind of people (except bj ofc).
I think you know what the actual far right is but like to consider moderate centrist far right anyway

Where were the new factories built? Japan, which was then the world's second or third largest economy, was a developing nation?

Yes and what does this have to do with life expectancy, except that it correlates very well with real per Capita GDP?
Do you agree or not that higher life expectancy is exceptionally important and a very good way to judge country outcomes?

Man you just claimed housing in china is expensive because of globalization, do you know what financial repression is? Do you understand why Chinese savers (and they save a lot) have to buy real estate because they have no alternatives? did you check the chinese gvmnt issues a 2.5 coupon 30y bond recently and the bid to cover was 4:1? Did you know Chinese people can't buy sp500 index funds like normal people around the world, nor bond funds from the us or Eur area ?

tbh I stopped reading what you're writing about China when you said that Chinese people can't invest in property abroad.

Can't invest in financial assets abroad from china no. That's what I wrote.
You are a normal Chinese with savings in a "normal" Chinese banks you can't buy the sp500.
If they are very rich they can move around and buy personally or through brokers (by opening bank accounts elsewhere and wiring the money) but we are talking the masses with 3-5-10-50-200 k in savings, those are trillions of money which is forced into real estate (before it was shadow banking loans to... Real estate).
The Chinese stock market is a joke with redic low float and the risk of gvmnt raping you in the blink of an eye because they decide it's "strategically important" for company x to do the government bidding.
Result is they have to Inver in real estate and they do

Go easy on that stuff. Peak globalization is the Peak Oil/Tesla is showing cracks spiel that pundits will continuously push and have so for decades for their own reasons.
Also, AI literally serves in creating a sustainable economy in a world that is deglobalizing.

Ok let's add some variables of wellbeing to the mix that aren't just $$$.
Access to clean drinking water - 62% in 2000, 74% in 2020.
Access to electricity - Up in the last 40 years - https://ourworldindata.org/energy-access
Access to internet - Up drastically in the last 20 years - https://ourworldindata.org/internet
Access to education - 1970 - 40% no formal education. 2024 - 20% no formal education. https://ourworldindata.org/global-educat...
Countries with universal right to vote - All increasing in the last 20 years https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/count...
Life expectancy last 70 years - All up drastically globally and trending upwards https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metri...
World Hunger - Trending downwards over last 20 years and better than the 1950s to 1970s https://ourworldindata.org/hunger-and-un...
Global extreme poverty - Down
I am definitely and concretely correct on this subject. There is no debate.
To ever internalize the idea that life for humans was best between 1950s - 1970s speaks volumes about the privilege of the person that has that belief.

Refer to post 323 above.
Life for humans globally is literally PEAKING right now in 2024. There is no argument here.

Cuba life expectancy is like 75 years old ranked at 58th
UK ranked 30th.
U.S. is 47th ranked 0o.
Does not seem to hold your theory .
