They were on the american side (!!!!!). Whatever limitations they had depended on *other countries* locking THEIR borders for americans, not on Trump (in 2020).

It was *harder to travel* for americans as well as for everyone else, but unlike in many other countries, it wasn't harder because of decisions made by the american government (in 2020). So the american federal government DID NOT LOCK DOWN ANYTHING (for americans).

The border was closed and the Feds/ie trump shut down plenty of other things as well under their control. And trump was ecstatic to be able to close the border it's the 1 year he actually had a big drop in numbers at the border lol A huge chunk of it just happened to be what would've been normal legal movement.

Literally tons of things were open here because all kinds of silly **** could technically fit into the defn of essential. Regardless, the streets/roads etc were frigging empty--because people chose to be at home. All you're doing is highlighting the 'tyrannical commie lockdowns' weren't actually that at all here.

Yeah, it does make you wonder. One of the most highly vaxxed countries has a huge death rate and one of the lowest has hardly any.

Its just another ******ed comparison. We had close to the same death rate as UK, Chile, Italy, and Greece.

Controlling by age you had much worse death rates than Italy and western Europe in general.

But if you check by ethnicity then it all makes sense.

Latinos in particular died a lot more than almost anyone else on the planet (controlling by age), mexico had like 10x the mortality of Indonesia with similar per Capita GDP and median age.

One thing to note is that in 2020 the US had a death rate that was 18% of all Covid deaths with basically 3% of the world's population. In 2021 once vaccines had started the death rate in the US reduced substantially compared to the entire world.

You can see that once vaccines are introduced in the US the death rates drop but the death rates in 2021 in Haiti go up. Ultimately death rates in the US did better comparatively with Haiti once vaccines were introduced.

The other thing to understand is that the people dying from Covid in the US were disproportionately unvaccinated people. So during 2021 roughly 85% of the deaths were unvaccinated people and only about 4% were fully vaccinated people.

Personally I don't care if people choose to be unvaccinated and then die from Covid. Its not much different than people addicted to cigarettes or alcohol or drugs. But I do think it is very wrong to tell people that it doesn't matter. Especially if you have been appointed as head of the country's health department.
