The NHL Thread
For the 5 of us who post NHL stuff, here you go. Officially the season starts Tuesday October 11, although there were tw
also the dickinson and murphy signings seem meh at best. murphy's one of those guys who has basically never been good afaict, is his dad a billionaire or something? otherwise i don't get it
it's joever for the loilers 😀

Just baffles me on the moves they make . Personally I hope Mcdavid pulls a Brady move next year . The reality is they will still make the playoffs with two of the best players in the world .
I wish that no trade contracts were banned
if the loilers are out of the playoffs, he'll be moved this year
Nemec & Tsyplakov for 2nd (NYR) this year, Vegas 1st 2027, COL 1st 2028 (both top 10 protected) & Etienne Morin
flames making big moves ..... for some reason
i guess it means they're big believers in nemec, so they had to swing with him being available. knowing nothing of tsyplakov and morin, i'm inclined to bet on sunny mehta here
Bettman said they’ve agreed to a $3.5 billion total investment fee and closing arena build if they go ahead with expansion to Houston or Austin with the Friedkin family.
expansion usually happens in 2s, so i wonder who the other team would be. have seen some rumblings lately about going back to atlanta again...
oh yeah and brady tkachuk to florida for a bunch of picks. i'm sure yall heard by now
Capitals acquire Jordan Kyrou from Blues for Connor McMichael, Milton Gastrin, and Pick 16
To OTT - William Eklund, Kasper Halttunen, rights to Brandon Svoboda
To SJS - 2026 9th OA
draft week, trades all over. it's all happening
St. Louis finally manages to dump Kyrou for some reason. I heard some random guy insist that Kyrou's poor attitude is the biggest problem there, so if they win the cup next year, you heard it here second
No idea what to make of the Calgary-NJ trade. Default assumption is Calgary lost obv
Ottawa seems to have done well getting Eklund and that makes the Tkachuck deal look much better too. Now let's see when Florida unveils the MAGA alternate jerseys
Does anyone else think it has been a odd/weird off season so far already?
yeah, player empowerment era is in full effect. so now you get stuff like brady getting traded with 2 years left on his contract because he's already told them he's going to florida. used to be 1 year, and guys would rarely leave even when their contracts did run down.
related: quinn hughes has 1 year remaining, i would be stunned if he's not in new jersey next season, but stranger things have happened. should be a lot of this stuff going forward
not a ncaa football fan, but this seems similar to the transition into the nil era. bit of a culture shock, but it is what it is. somewhat concerning for the canadian teams if they're all about to be treated like red-headed stepchildren so to speak, but i imagine a lot of guys will hang around if they believe in the project and/or target guys who don't want to live in magaland
Wait, Buffalo got the 4th overall pick and a second for Bowen Byram? Deary me
Byram and Greenway to Chicago for 4th overall, #45 pick and Louis Crevier
[Luszczyszn] Where do the Blackhawks think they are right now that they wouldn’t just draft whatever defenseman is right in front of them? Like the chances that guy is going to be better than byram are probably north of 50% right? Insane
dom hates it for chicago, so gj buffalo perhaps
sounds like san jose is shopping the #2 pick too. i didn't really buy any of this stuff because nobody ever trades top picks, but it seems like everyone is losing their minds rn. lots of bad teams trying to fast track their rebuilds, patient teams will probably be better off.
edit:
With Chicago reportedly trading the 4th overall pick to Buffalo, this marks the first time since 2008 that a top 5 pick has been knowingly traded
The last one was the Islanders receiving a second round pick from the Leafs to move down from 5 to 7 on the draft floor.
yeah, exactly
though with sj it sounds like they might just be moving down a few spots, which is more defensible. but everyone seems to think that stenberg is great so idk about that. i don't really trust that grier knows what he's doing
Teams trading draft picks away like this is the worst draft in history.
