Universally acclaimed art/artists...that just don't do it for you

For me: Bob Dylan.

I just don't get it, no matter how hard I've tried. Sure, the lyrics are interesting, but except for a handful of songs, they mostly bore me musically.

And although I will listen to a few of his songs if they happen to come on the radio, I have never willingly put on a Bob Dylan song or album.

David Hockney

Seriously, what is this crap?
I've seen better art on the walls of a middle school hallway.

What are yours?

I liked Clint in The Bridges of Madison County, a movie I thought I would hate, but the film won me over. That and Johnny Hartman on the soundtrack helped.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers: Really these guys are a gaggle of vile Hollywood street trash with derivative music and incomprehensible word-salad lyrics.

Talented musicians who make obnoxious music. I'm with you.

Clint Eastwood (as an actor.) He had 3 gears: Neutral, Frown, and Scowl. He made some good films obviously, like Unforgiven or The Good The Bad The Ugly or Josie Wales, where his lack of expression and wooden delivery worked for him, but IMO for the most part his career as an Actor is just a bunch of violent nonsense. As a Director, IMO he has done some good work but I think his catalog is pretty uneven: A masterpiece, a couple of very good films, and and a bunch of others that are maybe not tha

Eastwood's one of my favorite directors. I like his acting but not because of his talent. It's because his characters are awesome.

I think it was mentioned, but I didn't get Nirvana, or more broadly, the whole grunge thing.

I did like Todd Snyder's spoof though.

tv for pawinlaw is constant westerns unless live sports
so i've seen a healthy dose of Rawhide and other die-a-tribes
crazy to think Clint spent the entire decade of his thirties living in the sixties bay area playing an assortment of western characters blended with civil and world war movie soldiers

directoral debut came while transitioning into a harry bad ass san francisco cop right as the 70s started

while mixing in movies like High Plains Drifter, Josey Wales and Bronco Billy which started to scrub romance off the spitoon
obviously Unforgiven unsealed the casket

always wondered
if i low bet omaha every which way but loose
but any which way i can
would i be inclined to locke in a right turn decision
when the pots tanged with fifty orange chips

Dylan played the Albert Hall this week.

Anyhow, the Rolling Stones suck.

for any specific reason or do you just feel compelled get your ya yas out
remember, there's a six decade catalog available on the jukebox
no quarters required unless your selection goes over like a led balloon

Mick Jagger's voice is annoying.

Mick Jagger's voice is annoying.

You know who's voice is really annoying to me? Stevie Nicks! It's okay for a song but listening to a whole album of it makes me hate her.

And whoever said Red Hot Chili Peppers, +1

By the Way is one of the greatest albums ever made.

(Off topic!) Interestingly (or not) I had never watched South Park. Until this year! I remember trying once 20+ years ago and quit after an episode. Had a lot going on back then 😀 But back about 4-5 months ago I jumped in on season one, episode one. It's magnificent! Almost done (into season 25 right now) and don't want it to end. I have a sneaking suspicion as soon as I finish it I will start right over and do it again.

Make sure you watch the movie.

Yes, scheduled! As soon as I finish the series. I will admit I feel a dropoff from about season 20 and on. But still better than practically anything else.

I had a thought the other day of a colaberation movie combining South Park, The Simpsons, Bevis and Butthead and King of the Hill. Could be magnificent!

Pretty unbelievable they are still able to remain relevant after over a quarter of a century on air. They also have a few one-off specials from recent years that are well worth watching if you aren't aware of them. The movie is amazing tho.

Yeah and they were way ahead of their time on almost every cultural issue. Pure genius!

With the risk of being misygonistic: Ring commentator Rosie Perez (although likely not universally acclaimed!).

lol it is brilliant

Funny story about the South Park guys.

They don't start working on episodes until the week they're scheduled to air. The entire process takes six days days, so they're really able to stay on top of current events.

Yeah, pretty sad how they only managed to keep the joke going for 19 (!) seasons.

Yeah this is why it surprises me that someone would think watching 20 year old episodes for the first time would think it was great.

I liked it a lot for the first several years, but then when Kenny was replaced by Butters I couldn't watch it much longer; I hated that character.

Aww, don't hate on Butters. He's just a little bi-curious.

His voice / speech pattern is so annoying.

My only gripe with South Park is that they can be unnecessarily mean at times. Not that the Paris Hilton and Sarah Jessica Parker episodes aren't funny, but if I'm being honest, they didn't deserve it.

I can see how someone would feel that way. I like his character, but to each their own.
