Another friend took his wife to Huntington Beach yesterday for her birthday.
I wonder why it takes so "long" for financial institutions to create tax forms. (4-6 weeks probably isn't really that long for places with millions of them to create.)
I've already seen all my year-end statements, which seem as if they include all the information necessary to generate 1099s or whatever. I wonder why both don't happen at the same time; when generating year-end, fire off a request with the pertinent data to the "tax form service", et voila!
Ofc, I never worked in the financial industry. I imagine it's something that sounds that simple, but isn't in reality.
Also, if anyone else here makes quarterly estimated tax payments, don't forget the last one for 2025 is due Thursday.

Um....maybe on property taxes in some places? Or at least they get a discount? Seems like I remember at some point I can get a break on my property taxes for having aged and staying in the same house all this time.
if you use the ez tax form and don't have other major forms of income you shouldn't need to worry about quarterly taxes.
I am in the process of completing my self-assessment tax return, which has to be completed by the end of January. They are soon going to make the process "digital". I don't yet know what that means, but it's probably yet more Orwellian nightmare BS.
5% I have to pay on card payments, to the company who owns the card machine, because it's illegal to have my own card machine. That's like raising income tax by 7 or 8%. Can you imagine if the government raised income tax by 7%? There'd be riots in the streets. Literally. But I have to take it. God how I hate the modern world.
Orwell was wrong. It isn't being forced upon us, people are choosing it. It won't be possible to make a financial transaction without the authorities knowing about it. That is a severe restriction on freedom.
why are you paying 5%? as an online cc fee? is there an option to make an ach payment or whatever equal bank transfer in your area?
People pay the cab fare on the machine, and the company that owns the machine take the money and pay 95% of it into my bank account.

I work full time, if you call working 30 weeks as a college professor full time. Most of my friends don't. Also collect social security and never have enough money withdrawn, so I usually owe around six thousand at tax time. Penalty is pretty small, so I don't bother with quarterly payments.
Also, I'm lazy.

I was being sarcastic. I don't mind paying taxes at all, but current events make me want to put the tax bill into escrow for the next three years.

sometimes circumstantially paying the penalty on taxes pencils out to be cheaper than keeping another accountant deployed stocking score cards at the local golf course

Strong agree with John's sentiment.
Speaking of Brooks, saw an interview with him a few years back. You have to imagine Mel telling this story. Cliffs are that they were doing the first cut for the studio execs. Can't find a clip.
