OP stated that the button has 3-bet J2s and small pairs. We are crushing his range and are raising for value.

Yeah, he 3B with some garbage, and his stack got chopped in half.

So...it was DOUBLE the size. Now it's HALF the size.

What part of "we're not deep enough" doesn't make sense to you guys?

Did we forget about the CO, the original raiser, who has $400 in his stack, and position on us? Didn't OP tell us this kid has been getting steam-rolled by the BTN in previous hands? Is it impossible this kid might be tired of the BTN's shlt, and he might have picked up a hand he's hoping someone will 3B?

We're going to FOUR BET a pair of tens here, for VALUE, against a passive opener who's been getting pushed around all night, and a short-stacked 3B'er???

What's our planned 4B size here, over the $35 3B? It seems pointless to 4B less than the $140 the BTN has in front of him. Despite what you apparently think, a small 4B at 1/2/3 doesn't look stronger, especially not from the blinds. It looks fishy AF, and is likely to induce the CO to 5B jam on us, forcing us to fold.

A 4B of any size here is just torching money, unless they both fold, which doesn't seem likely, unless we put the BTN all in by going to $140. Best case, they both fold. Possibly, BTN snaps us off and we double him up. Worst case, the CO jams, the BTN calls, and we...fold? Call and pray we spike a T?

But, hey, we're here to gamble. So good luck with the 4B. Let us know how it works out.

Nothing we can do here but check back. We lose to most of his value, and double-block the only hands we're beating.

how on earth has mlylt not popped into the thread yet?

RESULT: I turned my Queens into a bluff! I reasoned they don’t have enough aces in their range (should just be A2s and A7s), and wouldn’t stack off with a King (when I have ALL the aces), so I bet $100 and they both folded.

Possible of course that I was “bluffing” with the best hand, but with two in there I really felt like I was betting someone off a King.

Awesome. Nice hand. Chalk one up for the good guys.

Don’t worry about saying too much, I didn’t even understand what you wrote

So I actually don't mind the flop raise - my concern is allowing him to realize his equity as his donk bet along with the board texture should have a high % of draws. The other issue with calling is he can keep barreling and we're most likely folding future streets as there's plenty of bad run outs. As played once he calls I would bet the turn - he does have some hands that are ahead/hands with equity, so checking isn't the way to go.

Yeah I guess my raise lowers the probability of him shooting the turn also. Which also gives me the advantage of getting a free river card and the chance of hitting a K or A the times he has TT or JJ. Still not sure though, because I think there were good arguments for just flatting the flop also.

Just to steelman the argument, I believe Mason is saying that it’s because they get to see the cards before any money besides the ante gets put into the pot. And the pot being larger means that the collusion has a higher reward.

I think the problem is that this argument would work as well for like, high stakes mixed games as well. And for the most part it’s an argument that can be empirically tested. I just don’t think that most players even understand how to play bomb pots. So

Got it.

Yeah I agree re:mixed games and I think it’s a poor argument for why not to run them. Bomb pots just increase everyone’s std deviation which has its own positives/negatives but to think colluders are going to be any more of a problem then they are bc of bomb pot that runs once every half hour is BS

Colluding is so easy to detect it’s basically nonexistent, in both live and online poker. This just looking like another Mason thread looking for a new way to convince ppl to buy his shitty book

This post reminded me of a section of a Dara O'Kearney book on ICM that I was reading the other day:

That's not why big stack players on day 1 usually don't end up making it far. It's mainly because they are just overly aggressive doofs. They will get chips early by running dumb bluff after dumb bluff when players are over folding, but they'll eventually go bust running into a big hand and a good player.

I'll just speak from my personal experience and having had these conversations w/ many of the best players over the years. When I first started playing high stakes MTT's, I couldn't believe how bad the players were. I mean, it was crazy how bad they played, especially deep. I never had this same kind of feeling in HS cash games. I know guys like Doug Polk who have expressed the exact same things. These guys were primarily over folding, and not running any good bluffs. And as I said, this has changed over the last 5+ years, as solvers have improved the games of players across the board.

What that quote from that book misses is that if you do know what you're doing, you can build a stack pretty easily so that you can avoid getting short stacked, and you can apply pressure through the middle and later stages of the tournament. That's typically how I've won or cashed when I've played HS MTT's.

Any ways, was just trying to shed light to OP on why going from MTT's to cash seems so different.

The fact that you don't know him also means he doesn't know you either, and your 3bet has over pairs written all over it. I would just fold here (I wouldn't be surprised if he even shows up with AA/QQ/KK, it's not out of the question. He raised lol10 then flatted 50 IP pre).

Wanted to point out that if you do watch the interview above with him, the fact he created some winning poker bot should be a afterthought compared to his thoughts that AGI will happen within this decade. If we can make cheap, abundant, intelligence at scale like this then its hard to even know if money would even matter moving forward. It would change our world in ways that are impossible to comprehend.

Hi guys, my name is Jandry and Im 26 years old guy. I have been playing poker since 2021 I believe and currently in the NL100 streets, shooting some NL200 games sometimes. I decided to create a blog so I can have more insights about my game but also make some friends along the way 😀

My goal is to reach HS even if that takes me forever. I just dont have any other option and there is no option for failing.

This is my graph of the year.
- January wasnt the best month ever, I was very confident about my game given I had very good results on December so I got out of line on the tables, lacking studying and not table selecting properly. On february,
- February I hit a BBJ so I had a boost in my bankroll and that allowed me to play NL100 given that Im currently winning at NL50.
- March I grinded mainly NL100 and few NL200 tables. I ran very good and I feel like the games are almost the same except that there are more good regs at this level ( still plently of nits ofc just like me ). I also feel very good playing at the NL100 tables but something inside me always tells me to play higher lol.
- April looking for some coaching and stablish myself as a winner reg at NL100.

Note: I am missing some hands from all stakes given that PT4 is very slow idk why and it takes me like 7h to get 30k hands uploaded.

Thanks for reading, GL on the tables !!

that is a very NLH thinking. You do not need 3 bet or open "bluffs" at any stakes, you need to 3 bet more than just aces. 3 betting pre is not polarised like in no limit holdem.

And depending on opponent tendencies, game, stakes, stacks, and what not you need to adjust your 3 betting range to include more or less hands, but all of them are good, none are weak or bluffs. So you might add 8765ds or even ss, definitely QJT9, JT98, etc

Check or bet $20 - $40 is fine. I kind of like checking if there is a player who will try to steal it.

At this score (2a-7a), after villian doubles, the cube is dead, hence you can calculate exact take points.

From my own calculations (it does seem to work according to 3 examples i have in a folder for this specifical score)

TP(takepoint for leader, in %) = 21.76 + 0.562*Gammons(trailer, in %, printed by XG) + 2.34 * Backgammon(trailer, in %, XG values)

This specifical thread makes me more thinking that assymetrical information and preparation are critical, and that the actual litterature in backgammon is a joke.

I think many things should be learnt by rote memorization if the information were clearly presented and shared.

QQ on K high flop when guy limp called 10BB isn’t what I’d call exactly a slam dunk pot size value bet IMO

Are we supposed to just pre judge how people play based on their age even if we have only 4 minutes of info of watching them play…mostly folding but limped maybe once so far this session. I knew this much about the guy going into the hand, he’s head honcho at this particular social club which makes him a sharp in real life which I would assume means he at least a decent brain and capable of

Then why include any information about him in your post?

You have two choices: You either treat him as an unknown and take a balanced approach, or you make some assumptions based on what you do know and deviate accordingly.

UPDATE: Day 4 >>> Sorry to let the momentum die slightly. The challenge has been going strong xox A backlog of updates to come though x

Day 4 we hit the tournamnet schedule hard. Playing huge volume, and hitting the highest level of my career feels amazing - the games looks different now, and I wish I could l play myself from 2 years ago. I've spent the last 18 months creating 3 + FULL poker courses for my coaching platform (Breakfree Poker) . It's weird that just re-enforcing my own knowledge has led me to new hights in playing ability.

But, it's the low stakes boys that feeeeeel the wrath of my very aggressive, but present poker. Another $100 ish on the banroll takes me to $310. Delicious. GG cash games keep the bankroll stable, and tourneys create chances for my bankroll to up. That's the plan.

I must admit, even the best in the world (which I am far from) has to get lucky to spin up the bankroll I have, or grind out some pretty low stakes for a while. The difference is we're taking half chances, and playing the $2 nosebleeds like my life is on the line. That's may be because it reminds me of when I first started playing - the closest I came to being broke haha. Fight or flight has kicked in.

I never player $2 tourneys even at the start (maybe I should have), but dancing with a bankroll that can go broke - oooohhhh that takes me back.

More updates coming soon, love Dan.

Hi everyone,

I'm DonnyBets, and I'm diving into an exciting machine-learning project aimed at improving poker strategy. I aim to develop a data-driven solver/trainer to pinpoint incorrect decisions in poker hands (like fold, call, or raise decisions) and enhance game understanding through practice and analysis. The solver will help dissect shoving and call-off ranges, among other strategic aspects, eventually incorporating micro-image and player profiling.

I need a diverse dataset of hand histories and tournament summaries to bring this to life. Your contribution could significantly advance this project. In return, early contributors will gain exclusive access to the solver/analytics tool, potentially transforming your poker strategy.

I am applying the model to Fifty50s on Stars first. Then 9-player Knockouts. I am choosing these game types first as I think the "correct" ICM considerations are the least understood. If you have a different opinion, let me know.

I assure you that any data shared will be used strictly for this project with the utmost confidentiality. Interested in contributing or curious about more details? Please send me a direct message or connect with me on Twitter @_DonnyBets_.

Thanks!
DonnyBets

Yeah man, how did it go? I know it has been a long time, but something like that would be memorable.

I am 100% betting here. We might have the best hand, and regardless, they think we have the best hand. I'm fine with two folds (prefer it) and I'm fine with a call. If V2 raises, we have to think about it, but I probably call and see a turn.

Thanks for the advice. When I called before I was not directed to the cage so I kept being transferred....

Yesterday I received a spam voicemail that I did not pick up. It was WSOP rep. She said... In reference to TBIC account the woman said I could get cash back in person at Paris Cage Monday thru Friday 9-5 pm. Before WSOP its the Paris Main Cage. If its during the WSOP 2024 can go to Champaign Paris Cage. I must collect all the money in full.

So it sounds like since I did not wire transfer mon

I've heard a couple of these weird cage stories. Seems like there should be some better process to get wire instructions on file and move $ to and from your bank, international or not.
