Now that's what I'm talking about!
Looking forward to the next TR!
I don't hate the flop check back some small % of the time. I agree that it does disguise your hand. The problem is that it makes things a bit difficult for you later on in this spot. But it also gives the other player some rope to hang himself.
As played, I think you have to call this river. Your hand looks weaker than it is. You have to wonder what this player is going to have such a large over bet with. Does he really do this with 65 or 44? It looks more like a bluff than a value bet. You gave him a chance to bluff at the pot.
Thanks for your inputs, guys!
I took the dumbest action possible, overbet jammed, MP snapped with QJ nut straight (lol).
I still have mixed feelings about (cold)4betting JJ, but you convinced me it is the least worst option.
Thanks a lot guys, all valuable posts!
I will definitely go for bigger 3b sizing from now on.
I jammed and both folded.
My 'tactics' nearly worked lol
GG all, congrats d1ab and thanks for running Gabe!
Hello,
Hello, I would really appreciate some help. I'm looking for some software that would give some idea of how often my opponent's range has hit particular hand combinations on a flop. At the moment all I can find is hand range calcuators that let me know my equity against a particular range.
For example. I'd like to know how often a 30% range of cards has hit two pair, top pair, a flush draw etc against my hand. Is there something like that out there?
I'm a relative beginner and only have PokerTracker currently. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Fellow Swede here. Do you know if its the same at the WSOP? Do you need to arrange for the ITIN before you go or can that easily be solved over there in case of a bink? 😀
You either apply for it from Sweden which takes a couple of weeks/months or you go degen and hit something on a slot or video poker machine. WSOP will not issue you ITIN automatically.
I have no problem with slow playing AAxx Pre-Flop with a table dynamic as described .. unless you can isolate somehow there's just too many Players seeing 'every' Flop.
The issue with a Donk bet on this Board is that you pretty much imply that you have a set or NFD, so any Player behind can play perfectly (and even bluff should you check the Turn for some reason).
I do both x/r and x/c here .. then Donk safe Turns to deny any equity going to the River.
You seem to understand variance. Some Players use Run-It-Twice as variance 'control' while others use pot control by waiting for safe Turns before applying max pressure with only one card to come. PLO Players have a really difficult time folding on the Flop, but they do fold lots of Turns even though the Pot Odds are the same .. especially at the low limits. They are more than wiling to put in $600 with 2 cards to come, but not $400 with one card to come at the same Odds with somewhat similar equity.
I prefer getting folds and taking down those pots 100% of the time. But I also do make more than the average Folds in the same spots when the Turn is 'bad'. Am I getting bluffed? Sure, some of the time, but not as often as some may think. Would I have regained the pot on some Rivers? Sure, but not at the rate I'd like to see for the chips required.
Only you can choose you PLO 'attitude'. Are you a 'pot'/GII guy? That's fine, your variance data will show those swings.
I look at this hand in particular as an opportunity to make 'safer' profits by keeping more Players in the hand. If you x/r here you are only getting called by Players that can beat you with one card, mainly being flush draws but there are some wheel combos out there too perhaps. So even if a V bets pot you pretty much get to see what the other Players do before you have to act. If 'everyone' calls, then you may have to shove in order to get a couple folds, but if only 1 other Player calls then you can just flat and allow them to hopefully Turn 2-pr or a wrap, which will allow both Players to see the River in a much bigger pot. Otherwise if the Turn is a blank then you got the extra $105 into the pot as dead money and V is calling off anyway based on their image.
If they both fold Turn, then you only risked $105 to win $210 additional. You can do this 3 more times based on your current stack size .. how many times do you triple your money and how many times will you see 'bad' Turn cards where you fall behind? To me this is better than RIT variance as you actually get 4 theoretical chances instead of two. If you produce folds in 3 of the 4, then you net $630. If you x/r then you are risking $450 to win $450 additional and have to win 100% to show any profit.
So I'm suggesting that you can actually win more by risking less on this exact Board long term if you continue the passive PF approach here on the Flop .. then hit them hard when you have max equity denial. GL
ehh yea okay thanks doc/illit. That makes more sense. I didn't think about his continuing range. I felt like ATo surely has to be a raise and A7o isn't much different - I guess it doesn't make broadway.
I was playing with this LAG the other day - a guy in my room who I view as one of the best players, we were chatting about a hand where he shipped OOP short stack HU with AKo and lost and I said "wow you shovel in there?" and he reminds me how hard it is to make a pair and that HU A-high is ofte
Your JJ v. A2o thread made me remember something I should have included in my earlier response.
When we're going for a check-raise bluff on the river, our hand should have some showdown value, in case V checks back. As7c doesn't really qualify, which is why I said go home in my first response.
You were check-raise bluffing with air. I'd rather just barrel off than make this play, unless we have a very good read on our opponent, and expect him to over-fold.
Whether we barrel or check raise, we should have better blockers in our hand, preferably the Ac, or the Tc.
Ok sir, reached out. Im sure many more will follow.

Good day, dear forum users. I will briefly describe my problem in the hope that someone will help.
I play exclusively cash at a fairly good plus 14bb/100 in the Vbetlatam room. Not long ago, a serious problem happened to my dog and I had to take out the lion’s share from my BR for the treatment of her spine, rehabilitation, etc., and therefore there was a need to turn to a backing fund. The guys want confirmation that I'm a plus. I downloaded h2n in order to import HH, but H2N does not see (cannot) recognize the HH format of this room. However, if you run H2N during the game, it saves NN. I decided to give the guys fresh hands. I skated consistently for 10 days in + without re-appointing EV, I scored 25,000 hands, but today when H2N opened, the story disappeared. I read that there are some converters that can turn my hands into the format that H2N would like and upload them to its application. I found AdvancedVbetConverter, but I don’t know if it will help me, so before purchasing it I decided to ask a question here. If anyone has encountered this problem, please tell me how to solve it. Thank you. [Uploading Image...]
I thought we were supposed to jam double flush draw turns with our sets, straights and 2 pair?
My biggest concern is most people don't bluff busted flush draws and I won't get any value from their busted flush draws with my good hands.
Not necessarily, it depends on what the SPR is, as well as the proportion of better hands in villain's range.
Eg if SPR is high and villain has a significant proportion of sets and straights, then it wouldn't really make sense to jam 2 pair on the turn. Yes you deny some equity against draws, but it's not enough to compensate for the value you lose against weaker bluffcatchers.
On the other hand, if SPR is low and villain doesn't have many hands that beat you, then jamming is perfectly fine, since villain still has to call with many weak bluffcatchers (otherwise your bluffs become too profitable).
You can watch this for a more visual explanation of why we sometimes size down when the board is wet:
I don't understand the shove on the river with AK.
What are we trying to accomplish?
Surely we have enough showdown value to just check down?
I was trying to put pressure and fold out his JJ, TT, and weak pairs.
But yeah, we have sdv to check back. Just decided to fire since I think people overfold rivers.
lol sattied again but they gave me T$ so still can't rebuy... will ship back 2 bullets shortly
Raising the turn isn’t a good idea. You’re behind most of the time. Raising then being reraised would be a disaster. It would cost three big bets to see the river and you’re probably drawing to a gutshot in a possible split pot.
I don't love your line given your aggro table image.
On the flop, yes, you could have some sets. But really, how many, when you're aggro, and just flat-called pre? You won't have QQ here, and if I'm your opponent, I'm thinking you also raise 77 pre, so your sets are really just 22, and maybe some sliver of 77.
You could have Q7s, maybe, if you flat call pre with that hand. I'd think Q7 might want to donk-lead flop sometimes, to avoid giving flush draws a free card.
You're going to have a lot more flush draws and weaker TP hands here. But again, if you're aggro, I'd expect you'd be raising your better suited aces pre, and check-calling with a lot of your worse AXs combos that just flat called pre - unless you have A7ss, which gives you additional outs to make aces up in addition to your flush draw.
I think I'd prefer just check-calling this flop. We can rep KQ by donk-leading the turn, or just continue to check-call, repping some weak QX, hoping to spike an ace, another 7, or a spade on the river.
I think your x/r size is too big, given your reads. If UTG1 would x/r with a strong hand, he's not going to over-call after the BTN, no matter what size we take. If the BTN is a TAG, he'll also be over-folding with all his 2nd-best draws and weak value.
When you go 5x, it pretty much ensures the BTN only continues with a very strong range, consisting of over-pairs and....nope, it's just over-pairs. I would think QQ would want to just get it in on the flop. So he's basically got AA and KK here, though I think AA/KK no spade is going to 3B. I also think AQ is going to 3B here. So this is looking a lot like KsKx, just looking to pot control a bit, in case you actually do have Q7 or 77.
The Kd is just a terrible card, as it possibly (probably?) makes him top set, and unless he thinks we're playing KQ or K7 this way, isn't going to scare AA or AQ. I would just check here, and hope he checks back.
At this point, after we bet a little over 2/3 pot on the turn, his jam really ONLY looks like KsKx, when we're getting 3:1 on a call, assuming he's capable of knowing the pot odds we'll be getting.
Since you never found out, I'm guessing you made your flush on the river?
Hello Langdon. I certainly appreciate all the hard work you've put into your trip reports and have enjoyed reading them. I'm going to answer your questions in the simplest terms I can altho the best advice here has been stated - consult with your tax professional to ensure accuracy. Sorry for the lengthy post, but this is a somewhat complex situation. This assumes you have a regular job and do not file as a professional gambler
Some background, I am not a CPA but have worked in acct'ng, have extensive knowledge of irs code, have always completed my own tax forms and have been gambling for 35+ years so my returns reflect wins/losses every year. As a disclaimer, I am merely stating the tax code as I interpret it and not providing tax advice
This pertains to 1040 federal filing only (1040A is similar, just reflected on different line numbers than I have noted below)
Technically, all gross gambling income should be reflected on Schedule 1, line 8b. In reality, all degens I know (myself included) only reflect their total W2-G amounts as their gambling income. Your total add'l income from Schedule 1 is then reflected on Form 1040, line 8
If you itemize your deductions, Schedule A line 16 then allows you deduct your total gambling losses against your gross gambling income (line 16 is for 'Other' but you would just type in 'Gambling Losses' on that line). You are only allowed to deduct up to the amount of your noted gambling income. Tourney buy-ins are part of your cost of gambling so they can be added to your loss amount. Your total deductions from Schedule A are then reflected on Form 1040 line 12
It is very unlikely that your return will be questioned but if it is, the proof of your losses can easily be provided by win/loss statements and registration slips from every casino at which you play (assuming you play on a card). Those statements will always reflect a net loss unless you've hit for a substantial amount (5 figures +); therefore, your net gambling income should always be zero and you'll owe no tax on what you have won
If you do not itemize under Schedule A and take the Standard Deduction, there is no way to deduct losses so your W2-G wins just become part of your 1040 total income
Lastly, all states tax gambling income differently so you'll need to check on how yours is handled. Here in NJ, we are only required to reflect our net gambling income on the state form which is almost always zero. Hope this helps
tldr; when it comes to the gubmint, nothing in life is free
The reason why you should not play horseshitty hands is this and the other hand you posted. If you played a reasonable starting hand, you are very rarely in a spot where you need to guess whether your re-draw is good or not.
I understand that it's a social game and you are clearly not "doing your best" but if you limp along with KQT72 your VPIP is what, 80? There is a common misconception that when others play loose, you should loosen up considerably too. Just play around 30% of hands and mostly raise when you enter the pot. Everything will be so much easier.
It sounds that way to you because it's literally how the word is used 😀

What stops you from earning more per hour?
If you're +EV, wouldn't it make sense to jump up from whatever stakes you're playing to stakes that are a bit higher?
Do you lose EV at higher stakes? Is the competition more fierce? Are there not any higher stakes?
What would occur if you simple doubled your bets?
It has turned out I have switched totally to live and studying with with the particular €50 mtts in mind. As there is no ante, they remind of cash games in some regards. My estimate now it's better to just let Stars be, many months since playing online. So I am left with quite exactly 4M in play chips, starting out with 1M. Quite far from the 1B. But it's too late to change header now...
