Covid-19 Discussion

Covid-19 Discussion

Has the wisdom and courage to realize that the cure has now become worse than the disease. It's time to open up. Stop moving the ball.

Hospital systems have not been overwhelmed.

Ventilators are not in shortage.

Treatments are being developed.

There is no cure or vaccine. This is not going away for four years.

The devastation of the cure:

Suicide rates picking up.
Massive economic devastation which causes depression, anxiety, obesity, again increase in suicide rates and directly impacts poorer economic areas.
Alcohol sales up 51%.
Domestic Abuse on the uprise
Child abuse on the uprise.
Hospitals that do not have COVID related issues are forced to lay off doctors and nurses as there are not enough patients to economically support it, meaning they won't have the staff to deal with COVID outbreaks.
Michael Avenatti gets released from prison

We all did our part. We sheltered (here in Pennsylvania for 5 weeks already).

Open the office buildings. Open the hair saloons. Get rid of stupid mask laws.

Continue to monitor outbreaks and in areas hospital systems become threatened, reenact tougher guidelines.

LET'S GET BACK TO WORK!

And stop shaming people that want common sense solutions. Waiting for a vaccine is stupid and unpractical.

Perhaps you can show us where 'fauci started the masks don't work.' [sic]

“There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.” Fauci on 60 minutes

Cool. I was wondering though if you could tell us where Fauci said masks don't work. He obviously didn't say that in the quote above, so where did he say that?

LOL at wanting a word for word quote. My point, as you knew all along, was that very early on fauci tried to convince people to not wear masks.

You forgot he said that in 60 minutes - no big deal. Take the L on this one and move on.

by bahbahmickey k

LOL at wanting a word for word quote.

I don't want a word for word quote. He didn't even imply or make any reference at all to masks not working. Let me ask you this. What is the purpose of wearing masks? You do know it isn't protecting the mask-wearer from infection, right?

It's protecting others when the mask-wearer is infected.

Now, Fauci said a few times that masks don't work very well in providing protection for the mask-wearer. That was true then and is true now (other than N95+ masks).

Read this next part very carefully: that doesn't mean masks don't work. Masks work very well as source control. Nowhere has he ever said or even roughly implied that they didn't work for that, and that is the primary usage for masks.

by bahbahmickey k

My point, as you knew all along, was that very early on fauci tried to convince people to not wear masks.

And, as I referenced earlier in the thread, that was before it was discovered that source control was important. Source control only became an important function when it was discovered that covid spreads very efficiently during the presymptomatic period and in asymptomatic infected persons. Once that happened, the guidance was updated to include masking as source control.

This isn't complicated, but it's incredible how much you guys struggle with this concept. It's largely why these topics are better left to those that are trained in the field, or at least with IQs above 80.

I didn't forget anything. I know exactly what he said word for word, which is why I wanted you to provide the source. In order to demonstrate your complete lack of understanding of the issue.
You thinking what he said means masks don't work is like if I said bullet-proof vests don't work very well to keep you warm and you thought that meant I said bullet-proof vests don't work. They don't work FOR THE THING THEY AREN'T SUPPOSED TO DO, but they work fine for the thing they are supposed to do.

The only L I would take here is if I was trying to teach you something. Fear not, I know better.

People literally died during the pandemic after following Trump's advice to drink aquarium cleaning products, but yeah, Fauci was the real problem. Just shamelessly dishonest nonsense from the Trump apologists.

Once again almost everyone is confused about Fauci's sin regarding masks. Not recommending them at first for the overall good of the country (because of shortages) was justifiable. But once it was clear that they helped, the argument about whether he was recommending using two or simply saying that two increases protection while simultaneously saying he isn't recommending wearing two, is irrelevant. Almost certainly a few people died who shouldn't have because he didn't explicitly say "two masks work better than one and I recommend using two unless you have a good reason, such as breathing problems, not to" Neither Brian James nor Gorgorian will like this post, but they are both wrong.

Why do you think I won't like this post? I never claimed Fauci acted perfectly. You're damn right he should've recommended it. I only said that he didn't recommend it, which I am explicitly correct about. Fauci was guilty of horrendous messaging, just like most of the previous and current administrations.

But that doesn't mean we get to just make up facts to be mad about.

Fauci's messaging errors pale in comparison to Trump's (and most Republicans), though, which were/are rooted in pure ignorance and far more dangerous. The Fauci witch hunt is stupid and based on the same thing.

So anyway, you said we are both wrong. What exactly am I wrong about?

Masks are a feel good security blanket. They make people feel better. The average wearer wouldn't have a clue and probably doesn't care if they actually work or not. It doesn't matter that there have been numerous studies that have shown they don't work against respiratory viruses. If the other sheep are wearing them that's good enough for them. It's like those perspex shields that the supermarket checkouts put up. Totally useless but they made people feel safer.

Here's an easy test. If you can smell a fart through the mask it doesn't work. That's my science tip for the day.

Speaking of shamelessly dishonest nonsense, this is false.

Trump did not advise people to drink aquarium cleaning products. Please stop lying.

No one asked for science tips from a bag of hammers. The number of basic science errors in your post is literally exhausting to even think about.

Maybe not aquarium products, but here's the genius in his own words.

I mean, when people describe how stupid he is, it still isn't as effective as simply watching the moron.

I just do not hear him telling people to do it. He asked his Medical person to look into it

Oh wait UV light and Covid . Damn its that Right Wing Fake Hospital Cedars Sinai

As for the disinfectant yeah pretty stupid but he never tells anyone to inject it and yes he probably shouldn't think those things out loud

To be fair, chloroquine phosphate is an aquarium cleaner, and Trump incorrectly promoted chloroquine as a covid "game changer." A dude in Arizona saw him say this, went to his aquarium cleaner shelf, and yummed it up. Wound up dead.

This is why people without medical training shouldn't promote medical treatments, especially unproven ones. Not exactly Trump's fault, but he sure as hell shouldn't have been saying crap like that. Multiple people overdosed on the actual chloroquine trying to self-medicate after hearing his words. Just irresponsible.

Did Rachel Maddow tell you that ? Hey I watched The coyote and roadrunner but I never strapped a stick of dynamite to my back .

No the pesky worldwide media reported it. I've never watched a minute of Rachel Maddow's show.

I’m not sure what’s the issue here .
All trump suggestions was pretty stupid on a science basis shrug .
Clearly he should just let other speak and do their job when he has absolutely no idea wtf his talking about .
But knowing how he always wants to take all the credit , those situations arise sometimes.
And since he never take any blame either because his supports are even more clueless, he gets a free ride on it

And u always have the lozen in this world to defend this nonsense too .

Are you suggesting that the President of the United States should only be taken as seriously as a cartoon?

I must admit I gargle frequently with disinfectant and I haven't had covid that I am aware of. So maybe Trump was right.

Well, if you want to get pedantic, it was hydroxychloroquine not chloroquine.

by Brian James k

Which is a metabolite of chloroquine. I know better than to use big words here, but here we are. And it's not as if he didn't specifically tout chloroquine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GuNbGC2...

The story of what he said vs didn't say keeps changing. Can someone just saw how many people died ingesting whatever it was he said to ingest if he said to ingest anything? Since we live in a country of 315M+ I don't need an exact number - just round to the nearest 10,000s of people.

Well, no he didn't actually. But don't let facts get in the way of your narrative.

Zero, because he didn't tell anybody to ingest anything.

He says while quoting my citation of the video "Trump touts chloroquine, old malaria drug that doctors say may help treat coronavirus | ABC News" with a description of "Pres. Donald Trump touts chloroquine, an old malaria drug, that doctors say may help treat novel coronavirus, claims it will be available "almost immediately."

However, FDA Commissioner Steven Hahn says that while chloroquine is approved for use against malaria and, in some cases arthritis, the FDA wants a large-scale clinical trial to determine what impact it could have on a patient battling novel coronavirus"

He says while quoting my citation of the video in which the first three words out of Trump's mouth were "drug called chloroquine..."

He says while ignoring that hydroxychloroquine is a metabolite of chloroquine (because he doesn't know what that means).

It was the very first sentence of the video I linked, potato.
