Well, in the case of Hamas they literally said when they conquer Israel they are going to kill some Jews, enslave others, and let the remaining live as dhimni if they choose. So I think it is also important that when people literally tell you they are going to kill/enslave you, and their actions match their words to the best of their capabilities; you should take them at face value and respond accordingly.
