To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

I don't think we're disagreeing except for a chicken and egg problem. I think narratives are nearly infinitely adaptable so given enough exposure I'm some someone could map a colonizer vs native narrative onto Pakistan. It does help that Western governments tend to have Western style politics of ostensibly liberal style government which makes it easier to comprehend and map, again, rightly or wrongly, onto the political situation. Liberals tend to struggle to map, say, tribal style governance onto typical western narratives.
While the narratives are reductionist, it's not hard to grasp the meta narrative that's going on. With colonizer vs native you have someone with a lot of power dominating someone who doesn't and liberalism is ostensibly is concerned with power dynamics.

I was aggravated cause I saw rafiki say that fgm means countries are getting islamicized or whatever.
Also, imagine a Thai-American who's never been to Thailand saying this kind of nonsense. WE can never be safe anywhere except in OUR special Thai homeland for US. You'd think he was loopy.

If Thai people faced high levels of discrimination around the world and had people calling for the annihilation of Thailand, it wouldn’t be that loopy.

We started because In Egypt, the catastrophic rise of FGM is tied directly to the rise of more radical forms of Islam. Egypt is close to a failed state, another factor heavily involved in where FGM happens. It's largely a socio-economic thing (ie more poverty means more FGM).
But there are non-Muslims who perform FGM in Africa, for example (some Christians). We just never got a chance to have a remotely civil discussion on this, and it has nothing to do with what we were discussing in Egypt (which is very clearly the rise of a much more radical form of Islam).
I would be interested in comparing economies in the countries where this form of Islam is prevalent. The ones I can think of have almost totally failed economies. But I suspect maybe there are exceptions somewhere (not my area of strength).

Israel was created right after the mass liquidation of Jews. That we can't see this as a very simple catalyst for the acceptance of the request for statehood is pretty odd.
