2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
boden staying in the race shares are nuking on prediction markets.
HILL DAWG 2.1% EQUITY
LFG. TRUMP CLINTON 2
I miss the days of RFK at 17%. Those bets dont come along very often
biden currently slightly more likely to win the election than gretchen witmer, and slighly less likely to win it than michelle obama
betfair
down to 5 cents
they'd need to go back at least 3 years, start grooming and promoting the chosen successor - getting him part of the conversation on most national issues and be regularly seen with biden showing he has a lot of influence etc etc
i think then they'd be a favorite
trump has a pretty good base
but beyond that he's a trash candidate
the right guy could easily embarass him in a debate and poke holes in all his lies and malfeasance
it's amazing that joe stood there in a debate, watched a guy who tried to i
strongly agree with all this except the first part, where i don't think 3 years grooming is necessary. think they just need a candidate who speaks with the appearnace of honesty, conviction, and some tangible proposal to change status quo
a new face that's unfamiliar to voting public could even help capture independents/swings who are looking for non-establishment candidates with some non-zero chance of delivering on a hope/change narrative. the base is already voting D regardless purely out of "anyone but trump" fear
but we seem destined to be stuck with harris, who the daily show adeptly noted is a spitting image of selina meyer:
i would like to think kamala, like selina, possesses a realer, more fiery persona in private when she's not trying to walk the focus group tightrope. her best chance would be unleashing that persona in public appearances and debates with trump to give the public something to cling on to. not that this will ever, ever happen
good points sdfs
If Biden steps down and Harris is the nominee, who do we think would realistically be the VP pick for her? I don't recall seeing this answered anywhere yet.
Joe Biden. Then Joe can run for POTUS again in 2028! (stolen from someone on Twitter)
More seriously, I could see it being CIA Pete, or one of the interchangeable white guy governors/senators.
I don't know why it matters. Any 11th hour Kamala ticket would surely get destroyed by Trump. The only exception is if she picks someone actually popular for this... popularity contest..., like, say, Edward Norton. Crazy, I know, this idea of picking one of America's favorite celebrities for a likeability competition.
Is Taylor Swift old enough? She would bring in huge amounts of apolitical voters. She'd be the most politically effective VP of all time.
"Norton appeared on the PBS genealogy series Finding Your Roots in January 2023, where it was confirmed that Pocahontas was his 12th great-grandmother."
Dope. He's got my vote.

There just isn't enough info and it's too soon, meaning Kamala or Trump have the opportunity to do both good things and bad before the election.
In general, does Kamala energize the black, minority woman vote, that brings them to the polls from otherwise staying home from voting Biden? Or does Kamala lose votes from centrist never trumpers that don't want to vote for a black woman for prez?
Kamala could certainly increase voter turnout for the dems.
taylor swift would make the age cutoff by one month, and if she were VP on the ticket it'd be a guaranteed win. do it for democracy. ed norton probably not.
Hogan with the best heel promo of his life
"Trumpites running all around" .... wowser.
Every speaker should rip their shirt off
Eric is such a ****ing goober
Am I losing my mind or does Eric think his last name is ‘Drump’?

I doubt that Kamala will be as attractive to black voters or as objectionable to centrists as you suggest.
‘Our children WILL love god’
Immediately after:
‘Our country will have freedom of speech and freedom of religion’
Lol

That guy BGNight already explained pretty aptly what "freedom of religion" means to them. It's a rather nonstandard, some might even say contradictory, use of the word "freedom".

It’s tough
On its face, a woman who made her bones as a vicious prosecutor shouldn’t be an options for liberals for any reason in 2024
Buttttttt Harris reverts this back to a referendum on trump the same way the UK election went. Which, at this point, is the only chance Dems have
there doesn't seem to be any evidence that black voters like biden more than anyone else, and i don't really see why they'd like him more than a black woman. it appears to be a myth that jimmy clyburn invented because he has pull with brandon
