DMW I'm smelling a class action. Substantive and procedural due process violations. You think you can get 4 classified as a state actor?

As long as we weren't posting misleading information on information sources like Wikipedia; emphasizing social divisions; and presenting indigestible amounts of data without sources or verification.

Somebody dropped some crap on the freeway yesterday, and 4 cars ran over it and lost tires. Not only did this cause a nasty traffic jam, but one of those cars was my wife's. Two shredded tires, one busted rim, and the another one iffy. Sigh.

At least we're at the point in life where this is just a big PITA, not a financial disaster. Still, yesterday evening shot dealing with it, and this morning will be too, as by the time AAA got there and towed us to the tire shop, they were closed.

Oof, insurance claim?

If the wheels were also damaged I would.

weighed myself today and discovered i am 228 pounds

this is huge, had been 215-225 with a baseline of 220 from college to covid

then in covid i blew up to 255

quickly lost 20 pounds upon return to USA#1 but then kind of plateaued at 235 (but was not working out/dieting just doing my normal non-covid lifestyle)

but really amped that i'm basically 8 pounds away from regaining a face with bone structure and should be able to shed that off soon since i'll now be riding a lot and with good access to a gym - watch out ladies

Thought about it, but it came to just under $1K. With $500 deductible (and how much longer it would likely take to get everything adjusted, approved, etc.) decided it wasn't worth it.

Bought 4 new rims, as it was the same cost as two OEM rims from a third party or one from the dealership, and they were in stock so I could get it fixed today.

Huge PITA but at least everyone is alright. Those kind of things can be very dicey at congested + freeway speeds.

gman did they find out who's car it came from?

last saturday driving through ohio i saw a dead black bear on the side of the road - was pretty unique compared to the typical dog/raccoon/porcupine you see

Garick's wife's new ride:

Rick, those will all turn into deer by the time you make it out west. It's like an infestation. Deer carcasses all over the highways in Mt, Wy, Id, Ut etc.

Yup. Also glad no body/undercarriage damage. There was a chunk about four fingers wide one deep out of one of wife's rims. If that had been elsewhere on the car, it would have been a lot worse.

Not as far as I know. State Patrol stopped by to see if we needed assistance, but didn't say anything about whose insurance we should claim against.

so non-zero chance it was sabr out on one of his joyrides to celebrate almost winning another donkament

It would be one hell of a joyride from SoCal to Mid-Al, but I guess the chance is, in fact, non-zero.

Nice werk mang!

I completely eliminated refined sugar and processed carbs from my diet a few months back. i am most pleased with the result. Both the asthetic and the way my body feels.

congrats Rick!

has this moved your 8 pack to a 10pack?

I weighed in at 176 this morning, down 23lbs since early Jan and it's prolly the lowest I've weighed in 30 years. I am currently in full 6 pack territory which is terrific. I played rugby at 185, ran a marathon at 181 and for reference when I've met you guys at meet ups I've been around 187-192 range which has been my standard range.

semi interesting story factoid at the bottom of this rambling

In part, I've lost the weight after making a decision to almost cut out drinking - booze has simply stopped working for me with all the **** I've got going on in my life right now, some of which I've shared (separating with my wife but having to live together while we do it) but most of which I'm saving for an AMA thread in OOT that I'm hoping will become my greatest (only) gift to 2+2. But basically if I have even 3 drinks then I wake up in the early hours with anxiety and can't get back to sleep at all or for a few hours at least.

Not drinking has reduced liquid calories, cut out all the nonsense I was eating after I'd have a few beers/wines/scotches in me and has also allowed me to make better nutrition choices the next day. Like Squid, I've cut out all processed carbs apart from some rice with dinner a few days per week and one or two slices of nice bread on the weekends with breakfast/brunch. Some of that has also included fasting til lunch 2-3 days per week, which I actually enjoy.

But the other major contributory is that I've cut out all cardio. I think I'd mentioned a few times that I was competing in Indoor Rowing on a national and world level the past few years and that sport is so ****ing hard and the physical and mental margins so small, that you just couldn't think to do the intense sessions without a huge amount of carbs in you. So even though I was doing 6-7 erg sessions per week plus 2-3 lifting sessions, I actually put on weight. I was ok doing it because I was shorter and lighter than all the top guys I was competing with and weight (and particularly length) are very important for erg rowing. But stopping rowing meant I didn't get nearly as hungry and didn't need the constant fuel and has made it way way easier to consumer fewer calories.

I'm going to the gym and lifting 6 days per week but I've dropped 20+lbs in part because I'm not doing cardio! And then the irony is that everyone now thinks I look a ton fitter than when I was actually very very fit.

so there you go. stop cardio, lose weight.

as an aside, I'm starting a trt trial over the next little while. am gonna do a DEXA next week and then another one early next year to see what difference it makes. My friends who are already on it say it's made a huge difference for them. Albeit they prolly weren't as fit and active as me and of course, everyone responds differently to it

yep. Very hard to out-train a bad diet. And booze does generally lead to bad food choices

If anyone doesn't know what to get me for Christmas, I found the perfect gift.
