2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
I went to high school with a girl who had a minor recurring role on Two and 1/2 Men and once had sex with a stock analyst who worked for Goldman and appeared on CNBC. Hopefully I win something.
Even then, it could be that Type A is very rare but easy to test for and Type B is common but harder to test. So it makes sense to test for A but P(A or B)~ P(B). And everything the doctor did or said is basically right.
You don't need 2 types for this to be the case. You can have just one type but test A is easy to run but only picks up 1% of cases or whatever.
oh we claim to faming?
my great-aunt was Ponchs' mom on the original CHiPs tv show
True. But then the doctors explanation of a different section of the prostate is kind of suspect, but not that hard to make work.
It might have been simply that the doctor interpreted the question as meaning "was there a lower probability of the second test being positive, as the first test was negative". If the tests were genuinely independent there wouldn't be, just like rolling two dice, one after the other. Obviously in that case there is a lower overall probability of having cancer with the first negative. Presumably there is data somewhere that details the % of positive results for both tests, that would justify the practice of giving two tests, but I wouldn't imagine that many patients would want that info.

My wife sat next to Newt Gingrich on a cross-county flight. They talked some. She didn't know who he was until he told her near the end of the flight. As far as I know there was no sex.
McDonald's lie has legs
NEW YORK (Reuters) -Four accounts on crypto-based prediction market Polymarket that placed large bets on former President Donald Trump winning the 2024 election, and have been the subject of much online speculation, are owned by non-Americans or a non-American, according to a source familiar with the matter on Friday.
Opinion polls indicate a likely close match between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in the vote on Nov. 5. However, the odds have diverged on Polymarket, with Trump pulling strongly ahead at a 60% chance of winning versus Harris on 40%.
The trade was driven by four accounts that placed more than $30 million worth of bets, according to the source, confirming an earlier story in the Wall Street Journal.
Political pundits and social media users have questioned whether specific high-profile Americans could be behind the moves.
But Polymarket does not allow Americans to make U.S. election bets on the exchange, and the source confirmed that Polymarket's users are international. The source said the company certifies all of its large traders to ensure they are not logging in via VPNs to obscure which country they are in.
...but hey, if Verdouche let them advertise on HCL they must be legit...
Lindsey Graham slammed members of his own party who are supporting
Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid, asking them, “What the hell are you doing?”
Liz Cheney said, “If you wouldn’t ... hire somebody to babysit your kids,
you shouldn’t make that guy president of the United States.” She went on to argue,
“In this election, we need to elect the person who is the responsible adult.”
If Graham genuinely wants to know “what the hell” anti-Trump Republicans
are doing, there’s no great mystery here: They’re putting patriotism above party.
Stunning admission from Liz Cheney that the US is no more than a giant baby.
UAW president tore into Trump, calling his McDonalds stunt a joke. Said he was "playing dress up to act like one of us."
"Kamala Harris doesn't have to pyut on a show. She doesn't have to play dress up at McDonald's because she actually wore the uniform."
"She had to make a living just like we do."
Now that 538 has gotten a few more established polls that aren't opt-in trash that is getting heavily spammed by republicans right now, their predictions have already returned to 50/50.
I'm super disappointed at the level of garbage that 538 allows to influence their simulations.

Has he got proof she actually worked there or is he just spouting verbal diarrhea>

I guess that is why all those labor unions and their workers support Kamala . Oh wait
Trump said they looked into it and she never worked there. For him to say that wouldn't be him lying when someone somewhere could easily show up with a picture of her working there, a receipt, pay stub or any other form of proof to prove him wrong. Trump wouldn't have said it if he wasn't 100% sure it was correct.

Of course, Trump would never just tell flat out lies, especially about things other people have said to him. He's a man of honour and integrity, a man for the people!
