I think it qould be better to get the opinions of women who lived during that time on how things compare.
Because in the last 10 years or so and especially since covid, my impression is that a lot more people, especially women appear far more miserable and seem to be enduring a lot more mental challenges than in the past.
We've sort of excepted that minorities were less happy because racism was worse etc. That also dont follow easily. Happiness is complictaed and people who have really hard lives can be happier than miserbable gits who have it easy. Even the opinions of women and the respective groups dont help much because no-one gets to grow up in two different eras to compare how happy they were. Expectations and norms matter to happiness and expectations/norms were also different. It's very hard to imagine how we would feel growing up with different expertations/norms and different opportunities.
but being objective about racism etc etc. It was worse in the 70s.
Not even just in London. Remember, manufacturing was still employing people back then. It's a no brainer for people in many Northern/Scottish towns/cities to prefer the 1970s.
I've always thought some large chunk of Brexit was about wanting a return to simpler times with a job for life.
I accept other places as well as london.
Nostalgia can be powerful but it's rarely accurate. It's worse than greener grass.
The two best things about the past we remember are:
1) we were younger
2) it was our world - back to the brain modeling point. We grew up it and our brains developed around it. This new world is 'wrong'

John Burnside, 68, said he and his wife dropped off their ballots at the Vancouver box Sunday afternoon and learned about the fire the next morning on the news. He checked the status of their ballots, did not see that they had been received by elections officials, and requested new ones.

Who do you think setting fires to these boxes helps more?
Obviously the votes are going to be more pro-democrat, so in that sense, it helps republicans to set them ablaze.
But as we saw from our friend, John Burnside, 68, he was able to double vote, so perhaps not an issue.
The accusal on Republicans is not a good look for them. Look at these savages threatening democracy. Perhaps bolsters more Democrats to get out and vote.
So net-net it could be a positive for Democrats.
