The accusal on Republicans is not a good look for them.

If there's one thing we've learnt about the MAGA movement, it's that they're super concerned about the optics of being perceived as anti-democratic thugs. That's probably why they decided against that whole Capitol storming insurrection attempt hanging the vice president idea. Oh, wait.

by housenuts k

Who do you think setting fires to these boxes helps more?

Obviously the votes are going to be more pro-democrat, so in that sense, it helps republicans to set them ablaze.

But as we saw from our friend, John Burnside, 68, he was able to double vote, so perhaps not an issue.

The accusal on Republicans is not a good look for them. Look at these savages threatening democracy. Perhaps bolsters more Democrats to get out and vote.

So net-net it could be a positive for Democrats.

Dumb hillbilly maga guys p

So lemme make sure I understand my choices here:

1. MAGA shithead did a bad cuz rhetoric going on 8 years kinda created a self fulfilling prophecy

Or

2. Deep state liberal blueanons playing 7d chess so liberals can double vote in a state that was already going blue because deep state wants to make MAGA look bad by setting up MAGA by way of false flag so liberals can win Washington and oregon by twice as many votes as there are voters

Well I’m sold

Like, you can’t possibly have typed all that without at some point laughing at the absurdity of what you’re saying

I went with Kamala Harris. I tried listening to Trump’s speeches but they put me to sleep. zzzzzzzzz

Glad I could help

Many tend to be reactionary in their ideological stances. Once they take a stance against something -- say "wokeness" -- it doesn't matter what kind of baggage they have to take on to maintain that position. They're dug in. It's part of their identity. If an array of disgraceful and disgusting things have to be swallowed, incrementally inching them toward some far worse ideology than they are resisting -- say fascism -- they end up in bed with it. Because they were married to the original position.

Way more so if they're personally attacked, trolled etc

Entrenches their position and makes progressive change massively more difficult

Yes.
The overall quality of discussion online has deteriorated while people are also spending more time online than ever. Yes, as you point out people get married to their positions and pushed to ridiculous conclusions. More and more of what is posted online is not only AI generated, or chatgpt’d. Posts that have a human touch seem to be in short supply. Its not just ai: people are being rewarded for copy/pasting hateful and bigoted things and entire trends get pushed on very thin intellectual ice by influencers copy pasting each other, and ai written messages designed to appeal to the average reader, rewarded by mass engagement. I often read 100 comments in a row that all seem designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. What to do about this is unclear, at least until after the election from an American Standpoint.

if Biden and democrats in general had pivoted on immigration the same they did in mid 2024, but in early 2023, this election wouldn't be close.

but I mean it's better to intellectually masturbate about the role of social media than to *listen to the voters and change your policies toward the median voter in swing state preferences* I guess.

can always blame Russian interference anyway right?

Ok. Clearly a false flag

My bad MAGA

Eh. There are no outdoor ballot boxes in my neighborhood, but if there were, and if one were set on fire, I would guess it was a garden variety crazy person rather than a Trump enthusiast.

If you see a vote counting center go up in flames in Pennsylvania a la Succession, that's a lot of more suspicious.

My general thinking is that I used to be firmly on the side of free speech. In principal I still am. But when entire memed and packaged hate posts get 1000’s of comments encouraging that hate from a mixture of bots, engagement seekers, and bigots so much so that it’s impossible for people to defend themselves or have safe conversations its not even real speech. It’s not the internet of 2008-2012. The absolute free speechists are now put into a position of supporting botfarms and malicious actors targeting groups under the guise of supporting free speech or just admitting the internet can no longer be an absolutist free speech zone.

Police have a pic of the car they think did it. They will probably be found pretty soon.

I found an article with a clearer picture of the car:

Imagine the smell if it's a registered democrat

Hi Microbet. wave.

Hey Bryce!

There is a new rumor that the republicans are going to try to reduce the number of seats in the house of representatives. That's what some think Trump's secret move is.

kinda like when a registered republican grazed the former pres with a bullet and was called a democrat?

Ya exactly

What a gambit. Will go down in the history books.

The essence of humor... is that IT IS NOT TRUE!
That's why it is funny.

I don't think you understand how jokes work. There's a reason a really popular white comedian was chosen to tell jokes at a Trump rally to a predominantly white crowd that maybe came across as offensive to people outside of that crowd. Perceived truth 'Black people watermelon haha' and truth truth aren't necessarily synonymous to this crowd of people. Maybe you could also take a swing at the anti-immigrant joke and explain that one to me

Also the sky is green haha

The car was a Volvo, so now we know 100% it was a democrat

The number of seats in the House is based on a federal law, not the Constitution. But I'm 99% certain that apportionment is Constitutional. That means changing the number of seats would be much easier than monkeying with apportionment. So how would this help Trump?

Freshly gerrymandered districts?
