Saw a car parked around the corner this morning. Had Christmas lights scotch-taped all around the passenger side.

I wouldn't say they covered the passenger side, but there were quite a few. Raised some questions:

1) I wonder how they change the DC from the car to AC for the lights (?)
2) I wonder wha

1) aftermarket inverter is the easiest way to go. they're cheap and they plug into the cigarette lighters
2) if using an inverter, if it draws too much for the car, they either just wont work or have fuses that will trip
3 & 4) no idea

McCaffrey my first-round (and #1 overall in our league).

Sigh. At least I had Mike Evans, Johnathan Taylor, and Nico Collins behind him.

Double sigh. Bad year for me. It happens.

drafted CMC 2x 1st overall. this year and 2020. 7 games played in those 2 seasons.

Heard a funny story at the poker table the other day. But it seems a bit too urban mythy, so not sure I buy it?

Storyteller is a semi-reg who I've been seeing more at the tables this year; places tight face up ABC, so I kinda assume her stories are too. Says she was in Vegas last week and these two guys were really going at it on the felt, with the one constantly getting the upper hand over the other guy plus needling him about it. The ownee is getting quite steamed. So they end up in another big pot together, with the owner shoving the river and the ownee now going deep into the tank. "Sorry for taking my time guys, but I need a minute..." he says. A that moment, the waitress comes by with his drink. He tips her $499, says "I'm pretty sure you got me again, but I gotta see it", and tosses in his remaining $1 for the call.

FYI: The Edmonton hockey team has always been the Oilers. It is their CFL (Canadian Football League) team that was known as the Eskimos forever until a couple of years ago, now Elks. Warren Moon won 4 Grey Cups as an Eskimo before moving on to the NFL back in the day.

GcluelessEskimosnoobG

Seethat's what I thought, but I wasn't sure, so I googled it. That led me to Edmonton Eskimos Ice Hockey, though looking in more detail, that team last existed in 1939.

Isn't that the name of the CFL team?

It used to be. But like the Washington NFL team, they changed it.

Lol, looks like the Edmonton Eskimos actually played for the Stanley Cup in 1923 (but lost).

My understanding is that their initial rename choice was Rough Riders.

GinsideCFLnicknamesjokeG

You can never have too many CFL teams named the Rough Riders. Gotta spell it differently, though. Maybe Ruff Ryder for maximum Tom Cochrane reference points.

That was a great soundtrack. Spent many a night in college spinning those disks on my AIO FM stereo/cassette deck/turntable high AF in my off-campus apartment in Tempe.

Pretty sure this is the only Tom Cochrane / Red Rider on the iPod, my fingers get tired just listening to this bass line. ETA: Always thought The War on Drugs is currently mining similar stuff; Slim?

Yeah, I'm too lazy to look up exactly what a Redblack is, but super lame name. Red Greens would actually somehow be better / more Canadian.

I grew up on the border. The local radio stations sucked, so I listened to a Vancouver station. Got to know a lot of CanCon artists.

Follow this up with a slightly mispronounced "and what you you like have my Cochrane?" and you're golden, imo.

damn i am completely unfamiliar with red rider but I wanna see where they sit as far as timeline of releases.

im hearing a lil bit of krautrock influence, definitely dire straits and a touch of rick ocasek even. maybe a tinge of late 80s talk talk too - dash of Simply Red even? i dont know, i hear a lot of similar sonic overlaps - will dive into their catalog and pull em up on the discogs.

i know war on drugs as a current group and i was on a whale watching boat off the coast of cape cod with the one dude his parents and that actress krysten ritter. she was ****in stoked i have a video of her screaming all happy and excited when we witnessed a whale breach the ocean (it was ****ing cool). the WoD dude had zero emotional reaciton though - looked like he was somewhere between catatonic and sleep walking. some reasons why that might be but not really worth repeating.

there was a flurry of animated films geared towards adults in that era with excellent soundtracks. i still enjoy the weird synth ****. like mort garson's work and i never saw the movie (i should try to find it online maybe) but if you like jazzy/synth maybe some pop but period piece pop not modern this one is sublime:

Was just hanging in the Edmonton Airport. Layover was long enough to consider going off to explore the town, if it weren't so stupid cold. As it is, a Belgian Beer Bar in the airport was a just fine way to pass the time. Delirium Tremens on tap and poutine made with Belgian-style frites? Yes, pl

I am on a Belgian kick ever since I found an article explaining what their names mean. So far my favorite is the Orville Pale. My New York in-law buys wicked expensive big bottles of Brasserie holiday ale.

Niners season is over. Was bad enough already, but with McCaffrey PCL injury, that'll likely do it.

Weird part is that the defense has been pretty bad, and they haven't had a lot of injuries. Offense has been mediocre, even with all its injuries, so if defense was dominant like in years past, they'

that was bad. Although the snow games are the only thing fun about the NFL.

Mostly early 80s. There's a good rundown of them from an American perspective here:

I like Red Rider and I like Tom Cochrane. Had no idea they were the same until today.

Ordered some shoes from Kohl's online on the 27th. Figured I'd have them ship to store, since it's only about .5 miles away; when I got to checkout, they only gave me the option to have them shipped here. It's free, so that's ok too.

They gave the package to UPS, who gave it to USPS. It should arrive today. Slow, but ok; no need for the shoes right away.

I find this shipping strange, as Kohl's accepts returns for Amazon. Wonder why they don't partner the other way too.

Both versions are on the iPod. BNL's version is surprisingly good (far and away the best thing they ever did, imo, but that's just cuz I find most of their stuff unlistenable).

54-40's (bordertown band I'm guessing you've heard of?) original "I Go Blind" or Hootie's cover? (welcome to my Ignore List if you get this one wrong, imo)

Have not previously heard of 54-40 (great name, BTW. Makes me want to fight) and didn't know Hootie's was a cover. I don't really like either version much, but the original is better. Got a little early REM going on.

I actually like BNL, but yeah, Lovers is definitely out of character for them. I think their harmonies add something, but their lesser guitar takes it back away, making the two versions a wash, but both quite good.

Gstilldoesn'tcarewherethelionsareG

Would have definitely thought you had heard of 54-40, as they got big radio play in 80s/90s (they're actually still around) and they're from just above the border here.

I've always wondered what USA#1 bands I missed out on at the time (ones that all Americans were very familiar with) due to unlikely to be played above the border.
