RTP - there are an absolute ton of programs that are out there to help people with special needs. In Park City we have The National Ability Center https://discovernac.org/
The programs that I have been involved with have been more experiential based which really lines up with how I roll. I am certain that if you contacted these guys and tell em what you are looking for they can plug you into an LA based program. The NAC has been doing this for a long time and are dialed in.
Happy Christmas Houmos!
Happy Christmas, future man
Happy holidays all.

People helping others. This is what makes it a great Holiday!
Happy Holidays to all !
Merry Christmas, degens.
Merry Christmas!
but i would have been 10x better off just taking the hint after i was ignored the 1st time and going about my job while looking for new opportunities rather than going on a quixotic quest to "make them understand the error of their ways"
One thing that was explained to me by a friend and co-worker, early in my career...
If significantly higher management asks you for your opinion on something that isn't directly related to what you are paid for, it's almost always for one of two reasons:
1. They are an idiot and don't actually know wtf is going on, asking someone way below their level. If you then tell them the "hard truth" they'll likely be upset at you, and respond like an idiot (shoot the messenger).
2. They aren't an idiot and know wtf is going on, but are asking someone way below their level as a kind of test. If you then tell them the "hard truth" you've failed the test and they'll respond appropriately.
In the 20+ years since that conversation (took a while and included a story about two monks and an ogre king IIRC) I've seen a bunch of confirmations.
What is a BI?

behavioral Interventionist sorry
Happy Holidays to all y'all penners
Is that usually a job at the county school system or a private practice?

Depends on the learners needs and their FBA (Functional Behavioral Assessment), IEP (Individualized Education Program), BIP (Behavior Intervention Plan) etc. Lots of terms lol but surprisingly most of them are actually relevant and useful.
Not all learners complete/have these. If the challenging behaviors present are minor etc they may not need these for example.
Sessions can be in-home, in-clinic, at schools, and in community settings also to generalize skills. For example, ordering a coffee at the local coffee shop using a communication device, practicing appropriate greetings with staff at a nearby museum instead of non responsiveness, or keeping both hands on the cart at the local grocery store instead of knocking all of the items down.
Personally, I did my observations/shadowing in-clinic as part of the process of becoming BCAT (Board Certified Autism Technician). But I have been working in home.
Thanks for asking. I am super passionate about this field and if any long time penners have family members with ASD or special needs in general and need guidance feel free to reach out - happy to help for free. Will respond if I can share anything of value.

Been a rough few days.
My dad has been quite sick for a month and the cause is known now, he has adenocarcinoma of the lung, stage 4 already.
He's undergoing chemo and my mom is at the hospital 24/7. I live 3000 miles away but now I'm in a cycle of going back and forth a lot as well so I can spend time with him as well as take some pressure off my mom.
I don't mind it but I'm physically tired as hell, though not as much as my mom.
**** cancer.
