I think it's highly presumptuous to assume what someone would want to spend their own money on especially when there is a clear conflict of interest. Also it can be very subjective where the point is to draw the line on when it becomes no longer worthwhile spending on preserving someone's life or even keeping them comfortable.

I know it might seem like a convenient solution for you if the sick/aging person just died immediately with a minimun of hassle or cost to the estate that you may have already allocated to yourself in your mind.

You make a good point, about the subjectiveness of "the line" however, at some point, it does become clear. If you dont know your own name or if you even have kids, I feel like we have crossed "the line." If cancer has spread to multiple organs . . . similar.

again, i'm not gonna answer in a way others do (although i understand it, this is a highly emotional topic), but let me give you an example and some stuff to think about (something i learned in a seminar a long time ago):

there's situations where you can't predict how you would act or react unless the situation is actually there. example:

1) i'll pay you 10K for your arm (surgically removed, no pain, just the arm gone).
of course (i assume) you say no.
what about 100K for a hand? prob still no
1mill for a finger? some people will start thinking
100 million for a small finger? i bet any amount a lot of people will say yes .
but: they might still say no, bc it's "theoretical" ... in the moment someone walks into the room with suitcases full of cash, this answer will be different, guaranteed.

2) other example (i'll get to my point, patience):
you have 2 kids, 5 year old boy, 6 year old girl. you are on a railway, a train is coming, for some reason they are chained to the track. you know you only have time to save one of them ... which one will you choose?

now, to finally make my point: you might say today that you chose not to live any longer, if your medical condition is like that, and i believe you, but i'm also certain that this attitude might (not must, but might) change, when you get older, get closer to that point, but are not there yet. its one of those situations where you don't know how you would react, unless it's actually there, and then you are prob not able to make a rational decision anymore.

i guess what i'm trying to say is: i don't think you mean all this in a bad way, but you look at a (for a lot of people) highly emotional situation from a very non-emotional point of view, and also with a "i know it all"-attitude, that will get you exactly the answers (and prob worse) that you are getting. a little more humility and understanding of the other side would prob help.
