Donald J. Trump (For everyone else except Victor)

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Lucium, nailed the answers to your questions. It seems a bit odd that you are trying to deny what teachers and their unions did post covid.

I wasn't talking to Luciom and therefore didn't read his responses. Were you the one I was talking to? It's been long enough I don't even remember.

edit: oh yes looks like you were. What do you think teachers and their unions did "post covid?" Be specific.

Schools reopened in August 2020 and only closed down in response to outbreaks after that, just like they always have for the flu. Outbreaks were, of course, more frequent and severe than with the flu, but that's how they were handled. And that's how they should have been handled.

edit again to add - what most conservative liar news outlets spread was that teacher's unions fought reopening, when schools were actually already reopened, they just needed the right to close down in response to outbreaks. Their resistance was to required to be open laws. Which should be obvious.

You watch it? Did you notice that the birthright thing he counted as authoritarian? Yeah the court stopped it for nowt, but that doesn't mean Trump wasn't trying to be a dictator. It doesn't mean Trump or any of the trumpy people have any respect for the constitution.

lol nice bluff and shame on you for grabbing a single tidbit where he says "perhaps if he does this then we should be concerned" instead of the rest which is poking fun at tds but you think i'm a fascist who wouldn't have actually watched it and you could have bluffed me

you forget because i use reason that i'm actually mostly on the same tribe, i love jon stewart and watch it all the time and so glad the trevor noah era is over because i couldn't stand him

Seeing Warren throw unintentional softballs at RFK Jr, and Sanders struggle to find anything worthy to ask shows me why RFK Jr. Confirm is up to 85% yes on poly.

With the tens of billions of subsidized $ going directly to big pharma, the best Bernie can do is talk about $26 t-shirts?

That's not what I said or did at all. Stewart's point was not that Trump isn't a fascist, it was that, for now, fascism isn't actually happening. And I pointed out that one thing because, out of all the things Stewart mentioned, the one thing he called authoritarian, is the thing I was saying is authoritarian. And I didn't say anything about whether or not you are authoritarian.

The malevolent chaos of the first month of Trump's first term eventually gave way to grinding incompetence. We can only hope for a similar trajectory this time around.

The White House just rescinded the order freezing federal grants.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/...

This is the sort of thing I had in mind when I wrote the post above.

Even after four years in the White House, Trump's people still don't really understand the intricacies of how government works, which leads to things like sending out memos without anticipating what the consequences will be.

It's going to take generations to recover from what the COVID shutdowns, general asshattery on the part of absentee parents, and mental damage from the alphabet mafia has done to today's youth.

Disbanding the Dept of Education is a fine start, but we probably need to bring it back under new leadership and direct schools to get back to reading, writing, and arithmetic. I'm not going to lose any sleep if we let the teachers smack misbehaving kids with a ruler again, either.

And for the love of all that is holy, take the phones away from these kids during school.

Sit down. Shut up. Pay attention.

Who the f* understands how the entire federal government works?

Who the f* understands how the entire federal government works?

You wouldn't have needed a comprehensive, flawless understanding of how government works in order to predict that firing off that sort of vague memo would create chaos. If I had seen the memo before it went out, I would have predicted chaos, and I've never worked in government.

Ok but what about 100 vague memos at the SAME TIME??

Ok but what about 100 vague memos at the SAME TIME??

That's fine. When you send out that many, everything balances out.

Just stop the mealy-mouthed stuff and put on your MAGA hat.

lol one day after calling me a centrist you change your tune because i hold the wsj in high regard for journalism sheesh

Once we understood covid wasn't dangerous for children, it was actually less dangerous than a normal seasonal flu, keeping the schools closed yes, was a fascist abomination.

you're forgetting those children need adults in their lives

the children could shrug the covid they caught in school off no problem - but the parents could now easily get sick when they otherwise wouldn't be

it's a tricky thing to navigate, but you gotta factor in the parents, grandparents, and school staff as well into the equation

Add in you must be a citizen to enroll your children in school or of legal status

Hard disagree.

You should obviously deport illegals, but if they're in here, you must educate their kids. Especially if those kids show up and behave themselves.

I'd rather have an army of illegal but literate children running around than whatever shitshow Milwaukee has going on.

If they do not speak the language it makes it difficult to teach them and they take the attention away from the teacher with the rest of the kids .

can't, until SCOTUS reverses the case i cited already

I don't see why given the incentives to enter and stay illegally that creates.

And i mean, ok sure the kid goes to school without legal status, so you know there is a family of illegals, and you deport. The problem doesn't exist if you just apply the law.

You need tens of people at a minimum acting in a criminal conspiracy not for that to be reported, including all teachers and so on.

In Italy it's actually a crime if the illegal parent doesn't send the kid to school, because there is a right to education which is also a duty, and communist judges decided that the word "citizen" in the constitution where that right is described, applies to illegals as well (yes really)

There's something called ESL classes.

If you don't provide education for them, while their parents at work, what do you think these kids will end up doing?

sigh... Level 1 thinkers...

I think that most illegals with kids would leave if there was no healthcare and education access AT ALL (even in emergencies) for them and their kids.

Level 1 is disregarding that

OR, you know, they would come without their dependants like normal immigrants do for seasonal work , or temporarily, to get some money and then go back home

by Crossnerd k

I’m sending you to the seaside for the day before I ****ing lose it on you.

These are small children and their friends. They have no concept of the legality of their existence. Jesus Christ, dude.

Now now, ignorance of the law ain't no excuse. *runs away*😃

Alleged Trump quote, regarding the new facility at Gitmo:

"Some of them are so bad we don't even trust the countries to hold them because we don't want them coming back, so we're going to send them out to Guantanamo. This will double our capacity immediately, right? And, tough."

Oooooookay, so on its face this is fine, but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that I trust Donald J. Trump to make the call about who qualifies to rot in Gitmo.

Level 1 thinkers don't consider the fact that there's an interrelationship between building a great society, and immigration, both legal and illegal. The better the society, the more illegal immigration... unless we want to discuss utopian societies that can't exist. Part of a great society is welcoming immigration (ideally, legally). And since you're never going to stop illegal immigration entirely, it's in the best interest, for both public health and safety, to provide healthcare and education. It's a chicken and egg argument.

I won't even get into the moral arguments for why... I know morality doesn't appear high on your list.

He also added:

Calling Guantanamo a "tough place to get out of," Mr Trump said the measures announced would "bring us one step closer to eradicating the scourge of migrant crime in our communities once and for all."

Not a man to mince words.
