You almost reached the logical conclusion that people, regardless of cultural lens, are roughly the same and should be judged as such.

Unfortunately Victor has his "the west is evil" schtick and you have your "Arabs only understand cruelty" thing.

As polliviere recently articulated, the Western World should be much, much, much less accommodating to groups that function politically in zero sum religious/ethnic tribal blocs. Otherwise, we just turn into Lebanon.

ofc the West as an Empire is evil. all Western Empires have been evil. its whole prerogative is expansion and extraction of resources by force. this makes things like genocide and slavery inevitable.

Slavery was a custom and commercial practice of West Africans for centuries before European traders arrived (the Atlantic slaves came from West Africa because that's where they had slaves to sell, having already sold them to the Arabs for so long), and, while Britain abolished slavery a couple of centuries ago and the US a generation or two later, West Africans still practise it in the form of child slavery on cocoa plantations in Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana, with about 1.6 million children in such slavery at present. When the kids are old enough and big enough to run away, the slavers just round up new ones.

Human history is mostly just an unbroken chain of this. Genetic evidence indicates human history is generally a long chain of population displacements, where warring males from one group conquer another, kill the males and children, and then take the females for their own. Not much different than many other species of social mammals. "Displaced natives," including Palestinia

Gotta break some eggs to make an omelette I guess.
Good point about fanaticism, zionism pretty much birthed modern day jihad. Probably the worst side effect from the experiment.

I mean, there are material benefits to the mass murder. but that why we are so evil.

anyway, USA bombed a civilian fuel port in Yemen last night. then they bombed the rescue workers. the West absolutely LOVES to murder rescue workers and paramedics.

The Yemen thing is so dumb. The houthis dgaf about a few missiles headed their way.

Western media hasn’t caught onto this yet, but other media are speculating whether the goal isn’t to soften up the Houthis so the Saudi aligned forces that control eastern Yemen can reconquer western Yemen.

Unlike the Palestinians and Israelis who both have been playing the victimization card for their western audiences and the Ummah in the Palestinians case (in bad faith on both sides IMO) the Houthis have been interestingly quiet about the US strikes, leading some to speculate they are doing much more damage than the Houthis are willing to admit.

I think there is actually a valid moral argument that European, especially British, colonialism should be viewed as a historical net positive based solely on them eradicating the widespread practice of slavery from Africa and the Arab world.

Oh yeah, the ~12 million Africans taken into slavery by Europeans that left West Africa, depleted of many of its fit young people, poverty stricken was well worth it in your eyes.

seems fine tbh

now the children in this area get to work as child slaves in the mines so Westerners can get a new phone every year. they should be so lucky!

Well, on the plus side they do get to keep their penis and testicles now, which wouldn’t be the case if the Arabs were still running the show.

bro wut

I will say if your moral code has the culture that practiced slavery for hundreds of years, including widespread genital mitigation and castration of slaves, and probably would still be doing so if the British didnÂ’t stop them, as the good guys.

Then maybe it is time to reexamine your moral code, or at the least lay off the faux moral indignation and outrage.

Yet here we are.

Gonna go with "no" on that one.

Have fun with that. Afghanistan 5.0

Why would ISIS fight the Houthis on behalf of the Saudis and US?

US troops are packing up and leaving Syria as we speak. And Iraq will probably follow.

Unless maybe some covert special forces we never hear about, I don’t think any US troops will be involved in the ground.

In victors worldview every Sunni group is ISIS unless they are fighting Israel, and then they magically become freedom fighters.

right, the West has never fund and arm extremists in the Middle East. what was I thinking?

I didn't mean US forces. Meant if SA tries to do it.

Saudi isn’t supplying any forces. I don’t think Saudi really has their own military. They have the US and some south Asian mercenaries.

They will fund the operation and probably US will supply the weapons. And either the Eastern Yemen forces will retake Sanaa or they won’t.

I don’t know for sure this will happen. But a lot of people are thinking that is the true reason for the US bombing.

As you said, all the bombing isn’t going to deter the houthis.

chilling article

Well, I would argue people are mostly the same, but that is actually a bad thing. Most people are tribal, genocidal and zero sum. And the modern day western world is the anomaly. And the second half 20th century western liberal project to remake all of humanity in their image has been a giant failure. And it is very foolish to assume other groups share this peculiar world

This attempt to thrust this peculiar worldview onto us is why so many people are moving to the right. It is the reason Trump is now President again.

I think high trust liberal societies have worked extremely well for the Western world over the last half decade or so. That being said, you have to have some theory of mind that other groups do not share this worldview, and not let them weaponize your values against you.

the high trust Western Society just tied a bunch of kids to a tree and attacked Easter Sunday worshippers today. oh ya, and they burned a bunch of people alive too.

I wouldn’t characterize Israel as a high trust western society. I would characterize it and Lebanon as cautionary tale of how a potential liberal high trust society will go sideways if things get too tribal and zero sum.
