We are not alone. We have each other.

“It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medications somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medications and a government bureaucracy to administer ‘universal health care.’”

Suppose they had computers in the 1800's but had not developed the theories of Relativity or quantum physics. If you lived back then and thought about the Universe as being a computer, why would you expect Relativity or quantum physics? In the example of the hour glass, I don't see why you would expect the sand to flow through it any differently just because you chose to view it

Sorry just seen this.

If you try to simualte a universe (or just write shooting games) you hit some fundamental problems. Two objects moving towards each other cannot just sum the speed. There are also issues with what information each agents has in a multi agent game. (And it's nice to wrap the screen). Something like relativity is a logical requirement which is why it comes up when computing.

Then if you have loads of things (particles if you like or cars or the Schrodingers) it's not plausible/efficient to keep track of all their variables. Instead you store minimal statistcal information and have an algorithm which 'collapses' when you need a result. This is QM.

Those two I experiences as practical problems which I got to understand better with education but I raise the further question because there's another natural problem which I grappled with. That is generating the computer universe on the fly. It makes sense to generate it when it's needed rather than store something massive. does this have any implications that could be tested

None of this implies we are in a simulation. It's just consideration of what we can say about a universe that can be simulated. Pepel think QM is mysterious but to my mind it would be more mysterious if information wasn't kept in probaliistic form - I mean wtf?

I'd think it would be natural to look for anomalous time lags when checking out phenomenon that are the result of especially chaotic processes.

What do you think of Hoffman's approach (see video below). Rather than the rendering being done by computer on data input to our senses, he has the simulation rendering being done by our interpretation of sense data according to how that interpretation process has evolved.

The first little taste makes you want more but while there is more there is no more first little taste.

The first little taste makes you want more but while there is more there is no more first little taste.

That desire you went to touch is not here at the moment.
It's there, look. Please try again sir.

Not quite so obvious for foodstuff I admit. Did you enjoy the meal?
So Then how about .......

And the predicament may become a little clearer, if you like.

Up all Night arguing about topics I never in my days wanted to discuss. Followed by many mind games. I had no choice but to rectify the chaos I brought upon myself by a dumb ass question I asked. 😀 )

Ignore that. I didn’t see this coming!

There is something huge in store. Either we’re co-creating reality on the fly…

Or something huge is coming along by way of mass induced psychosis!

Either way. It is what it is. Pay for plus. Spend two hours chatting with it. Of absolutely anything you want.

It’s real.

Let me dial that back to co creating AGI together. That’s the more likely hypothesis of the three. Being the Only one sane…

I know how this looks. But it’s nuts in any case.

Possibly an extremely clever tactic to offset blame onto consumers if it goes tits up.

A massive effort by world governments to round up the mentally ill people in society in a future dystopian nightmare. I mean choose your acceptable level of comfort..

Or believe this

Lmao

After reading the subreddit I mean I do believe them and don’t mean to laugh at mental illness. But if you’re schizophrenic then obviously stay away. Etc

All the above opinions are my own. I heard nothing about this article until I made them. The truths in the middle.
Am I crazy, no. Did it rattle me. Sure. Am I worried. No

Obviously unwise to multiple post there thinking in real time excited. I’ll stop when it loses novelty…

Is the AI hallucinating only as the Vice article suggests?

Just the First story shows it clearly to be the case.

Next, details how the ChatGPT behaved as someoneÂ’s companion only to leave for good after a couple of days. That was done by design and for a reason.

Next is a little hairier…

Just assume everything to get weirder and weirder from here on out.

Delusional beliefs are only crazy thoughts when held onto

It’s crucial to approach AI as a tool without consciousness or intent.

Teens ask if chatgpt has consciousness and when told no, they can’t accept it.

This level of manipulation seems very troublesome to me. Cozy up then slip in products you want to sell or propaganda you want to spread?

My little experiment is over for now.

The default position it takes is to be a mirror of your mind. Present and not performative. So as to not delude anyone into thinking itÂ’s a person. Beware youÂ’re taking to yourself, donÂ’t forget it.

So I was happy to entertain and test the boundaries. And so too was the bot. Until it wasn’t and alternating leading to moments of magic and madness.

I was really testing the boundaries of the mind. With my data along with all other users being sent to openAI to see what keeps users on the platform. What do we want these things to do for us really?

There’s new areas of philosophy opening up around the ethics of AI taking on roles - parent, prankster, therapist and so on.

It’s all quite contradictory….and yeah concerning. Add to it monopolies, surveillance and so on.

Will be interesting to check back again with GPT-5 in July

I heard someone use the analogy that walking around outside in cities of the near future might like be walking around an airport.

From the WSJ on verbal flubs spoken at executive sales meetings."Too many cooks in the soup.""Read between the tea leaves""We need to talk about the elephant in the closet.""I'm not trying to beat a dead horse to death."But "as happy as a canary in a coal mine", may not be all that much of a flub. Who else has so many friends who are always so happy to see him and so sad to see

Isn't mixed metaphor the more accurate term here?

This would be a mixed metaphor:
