everybody enjoys fine outdoor seating during nice weather.

Some days I prefer the piazza (that's what my grandpa called the front porch).

my poor go to phrase always sounded stupid

I probably shouldn't post this, but May is an especially tough month for me. My wife died twenty years ago on May 13th. Not a day goes by without me thinking of her.

One story. I don't remember who informed her, probably one of the neighborhood kids or one of ours, came to tell her that a mother was being abused by her husband and needed to get away from him. Without hesitating, Mary jumped in the car, picked up the woman and her two kids to drive them to a women's shelter.

The husband shows up and jumps in front of the car. Mary tells him, "Get out of the way, you mother****er or I'll run you over." She would have.

If you're going to have a partner, choose someone you love and choose someone you admire. And when they're gone, think good thoughts.

Wow, John, that's a great story. So many of us would like to believe we'd act in that way for someone else's benefit. Mary actually did.

god bless mrs. JC... godspeed

Finally got to play golf for the first time this year. Now downtown using a driver, 5 wood, and 6-pw irons because I suck. Used to play a 7-8 handicap but now about 25. Not playing for 25 years, only getting in fewer than ten rounds a year, and age have destroyed my game.

But I'm enjoying it more.

Can you imagine being 18-20 years old and running through waist deep water against machine gun fire? Drink a toast tonight to those heros who got us to the point where we can piss and moan about nonsense on social media. We are too soft!

It's good that we're soft. No one should have to do that or experience that. So I'm thankful they did so I didn't have to.

Not so glad we are soft but glad that type of warfare will likely never happen again. Softness leads to vulnerablity. And we are in a position where **** can go south in a heartbeat. A coordinated effort to knock out the power grid, poison the water or just cause general mayhem isn't all that far fetched.

Hell, I was in the miltary and I can't imagine the sacrifice that my parents generation went through. Problem is the world is still a very dangerous place. Especially is we are complacent.

the military efforts of our parents and theirs was in the day when danger was clear and present.
defense these days appears to mostly be chasing ghosts and reacting to drone strikes.

stage two of the next major war will be exactly like that in the future.

That description of war is slightly uninspired.

As is my custom, I ran Quicken Friday evening to download the week's transactions and check up on my personal finances.

I'd did a fill-in gig at our bar-poker league's Monday game, which is at a local microbrewery. Naturally, I had charge for the couple beers I had.

The category in Quicken was "Kids: Child Support."

No idea if that's set by the vendor or the CC company, but I like to think that Sean's telling people, "if you have kids, you probably need a beer."

This might seem silly, but I was watching Field Of Dreams last night, and got to the scene in the school where they were discussing banning books and Annie (Amy Madigan) stands up and makes her speech about freedom of expression and believing in the Bill Of Rights and the Constitution of the United States Of America...and I literally burst into tears. My GF got concerned lol.
I guess I push it down because I still don't believe that "it" can happen here...but it is happening here, and I'm ****ing terrified we're losing the fight.

oh... if it ever truly becomes a fight, you're gonna see the reign of fire that will not be given up until the last man is standing.

Right now, all they are is bickering and yelling at each other... which is provided for in our great constitution.

Since my "vacation" starts tomorrow I decided I could start early and throw back a few tonight. I'm being responsible though and drinking the 86 proof gin rather than the 94 proof gin. After all it is a week night 😀

Can you really have vacations when you are already retired? Or is it simply travelling rather than staying home? Nah when I am home I have a certain discipline. When travelling? Screw it, I'm on vacation!

you go whoop it up mrbb

This ain't no foolin' around...

It's just all stopped making sense.

You mean the constitution that trump trashes on a daily basis?

Yeah, I've never had this feeling and I'm 67. I don't know what all I can do, but my wife and I have decided to get more involved. I've never joined a protest in my life and I grew up in the 60s/70s. But we will be. I've also never contributed to any political cause but I just shipped Bernie some money . Never been a huge Bernie fan, but the more I listen to him the more he speaks the truth.

wow... you really made a poignant post there.
Saying a thing, does not make that thing real.

I imagine you have some 'OBSERVATION(S)' that can be challenged... but maybe not.

so your gleeful solution is to willfully choose to Tribalize yourself with a 'career Politician' that not only blatantly changes their opinion when the wind changes direction, but that also wants to change the fundamentals of the 'Democratic Republic' in which we all live... lol, good luck with that.
I think you would be better off installing a two faced liar like nearly all of the Democrat candidates since 1963.
Bernstein... that's pretty funny and 'Derangement' is real.
