2025 WSOP!!
I know itβs early and normally Iβm not excited about WSOP this soon after but dang it, Iβm itching to go back already!
I
I passed on the Million Dollar bounty this year. Jonesing to play the Monster Stack in two weeks.
Just won a landmark satellite so I guess Iβll be playing in Mystery Millions tomorrow.
For what itβs worth, if youβre in the mood to just play aggressive and hope to be lucky in a 15 minute turbo, itβs a pretty fun option. Especially when youβre winning.
Oh but the dealers are horrendous. Literally every new dealer who has never dealt starts with the satellites. I had dealers who didnβt know how to count chips and one forgot how many cards go on the flop. Soβ¦.yeah.

They said the WSOP warm up freeroll had all newbie dealers. It was a warmup for them too. Ours wasn't horrible, just very bad. Luckily her mistakes were mostly fixable. She said she had never dealt a full hand of hold 'em, not even in her 6 month dealer school. I don't think she'd ever played a hand of hold 'em either.
I was wondering what the crowds outside that place were doing, because I haven't heard anyone say it was particularly good.
I went once last summer. Below average food for above average prices. I ate in the restaurant and I think they gave me plastic cutlery.
Low grade tourist trap. I won't be back.
CBS sports coverage is piss-poor anyway. I guess WSOP is too cheap to get an ESPN contract, which is funny because their ratings have been tanking. It should be cheaper than before. Maybe Jack Links felt like they weren't getting their money's worth.
The early ESPN shows were phenomenal entertainment. They stretched the product too thin. The 2003 Main Event was I think 7 episodes long. Some of the peak boom years were around 20-25 episodes, with some adding more time for final table coverage. The action was spread too thin. Audiences lost interest. The brand lost value. ESPN walked away.
I hope that GG can revive the product because the raw ingredients for compelling TV are there.
The CBS Sports coverage of the Main is incredibly bland and low effort. Basically the nut low in terms of utilizing the license to its full potential.
For the 1K WSOP seniors starting 6/16, thereβs 2 day 1s. Does everyone still left combine for both day2 6/18 and then day3 6/19? Or a split crowd again? I couldnβt tell from structure sheet.

I think the way something like this works is the WSOP arranges for some sponsors to pay money for commercials. I think as long as the ratings maintain a minimum level, and the payments keep coming in, the broadcaster doesn't care a lot about the content.
Commercial prices are based on viewership and viewership is determined by the content, so there's a pretty clear connection.
Somewhat different in the age of Netflix, but the general idea still applies.
High ratings dictate high licensing fees (see: NFL, WWE).
That ESPN didn't feel compelled to continue with poker hints at weak viewership.
I'd argue that it was largely self-inflicted (by ordering too much product, they diminished the quality of that product).
The other big variable was online poker going kaput in the USA, which would've been a major domino.
There's room for GG to rehabilitate the media product and eventually get a much better streaming/broadcasting deal.
They can start out by actually trying to make it watchable. The last few years of edited Main Event footage are impressively dull.

With only 2 flights of Day 1, there's going to be plenty of room for the whole field to play together on Day 2.
Hello everyone, I applied for my Real ID 3 weeks ago and of course I still have not received it yet. I know this is probably unlikely but does anyone know if Iβd be able to use my voided ID, or my printed off temporary ID to enter tournaments? I could bring my birth certificate and Social not sure if that would help though. I am scheduled to leave next Tuesday so starting to ge
That stinks. Not sure if there is a workaround or not. It's too bad you had just a small window of years to get that Real ID set up.
At the advent of the hole cam, poker was really fun to watch for the masses. It was novel.
But that novelty wore off, as it does with most things. I can’t think of anything about the game now which would appeal to broad audiences, and this is what broadcasters and sponsors care about. If you look at how the game has evolved over the last decade+ with analytics, that is likely to make it even less appealing to casual viewers.
Does anyone here have ideas for how to bring the eyeballs back?
2025 WSOP Mystery Millions (2024 18,409 total entries)
1A: 1329
1B: 1833
1C: 2995
1D: 5320
1E: ?
11,477 1A thru 1D. 6932 needed on 1E to match the total last year.

To be fair, there is a lot of opposition to the 2005 Real ID act in the U.S from all sides of the political spectrum, which is why it has taken 20 years to be enforced. I donβt really blame anybody for procrastinating on it.
As for the requirement re: air travel, I believe if TSA is able to establish a personβs identity through questioning and perhaps other documents, they can be allowed to pass w/o an ID. This process can take some time and the person would have to also go through enhanced security. I donβt think this process is anything Iβd want to do on purpose. Better to just have the ID.
It will be interesting to see how long IDs are even used when getting on airplanes. For the TSA pre-check program they are already starting to rely on facial recognition systems. Given the rate in advancement in the technology, it seems like it wonβt be too long before that becomes more widely adopted.
I registered on line for mystery 4days ago for flight E.
Came yesterday and verified. I could not get a seat assignment printed as player service says as per new system it will come in your WSOP + app 30 minutes before start time !!!
Is this everyoneβs experience.
Today itβs 7 AM and I still dont have seat assignments !!

Does anyone have info on live streaming of final tables this year?

I think a lot of it falls on the players.
Like them or hate them, a lot of the poker "celebrities" of the 2003 - 2009 vintage really seemed to want to help make the broadcasts fun for viewers while developing their "brands".
That seemed to fade away over the years to the point where most of the players I see at final tables don't seem to care at all about entertainment value on the broadcasts.
That's fine because people tend to pay their own buyins.
I've loved poker since the 70s and even I have a hard time watching some of the broadcasts over the past decade even though some of the analysts are tremendous AND fun.

I'm pretty sure the Main Event is the only one with multiple Day 2 restarts. The next-best large-field event with multiple flights is the Monster Stack, but even with 50k chips and 60 minute levels, only 1/3 of the field will make it to day 2. In the Main it's more like 75%.

I disagree. There are many interesting personalities in the game. I think it's primarily a failure of packaging.
If you have a PokerGO subscription, do this experiment for me. Watch the first 5 minutes of the 2019 WSOP Main Event. Then go back and watch the first 5 minutes of the 2007 Main Event on PokerGO. Tell me which is more exciting and interesting, and make note of any important differences you notice in presentation.
There are some night and day differences in how they sell (or don't sell) the product.

The past couple of days it hasn't been coming through (for me, anyway) until 10 minutes prior to the start, so just hold on and it should be fine.

10 minutes !! How you know where you are going Paris or Horseshoe ? And run in next 5 minutes ?!!!!! Where to wait ? There will be 3 to 4000 waiting ,not knowing where they are going ? Or this is only for who pre reg in advance?

That is ridiculous to potentially not even know if you start at Paris or Horseshoe until 10 minutes before your first hand. Totally unnecessary and unacceptable.
What a cluster F.
Oh just got assigned!! 9am!!!
But don’t like the system
Its better this way because they can better estimate how many tables to assign now in the beginning. As well as more randomness between the players since it used to be in bravo, they'd open up clumps of tables as more people registered and keep seat 9 and 5 open as an example and eventually fill those in. You play 6-7 handed more often than before. (Ofc depending if people show up to their seat).
The app is so much better.
Only issue is finding results after the fact, or end of day reports. Gone are the end of day and summary traditional pdf reports.
