What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.

40-49 on 68.8/124 par 70, 6200 yards. No excuses, played the back 9 like I had my head up my ass. Didn't help that I had to take a phone call starting on hole 15. But that doesn't explain the triple on 11 and the double on 12. Differential 18.4, GHIN moves to 20.4.

really liking your attitude Easy
as for you Booker, perfect description of my game

49 (par 35). No birdies, 5 double bogeys.

At least it was the entertaining kind of awful.

1. Straight away par 4. Hit a terrific drive in the middle of the fairway. Second shot is a gigantic hook thirty yards left. Pitch over an evergreen to 10 feet. First putt goes 25 feet. Lucky to get down in two more. Double.

2. 90 degree dogleg left. There's a large bush on the inside corner. Hit a driver that would be terrific except for one small detail - it ends up just barely past the bush where, as a right handed player, I have no stance. Because there's a ****ing bush where I would stand. Hit it left handed, yank it hard right into a bunker. 30 yard bunker shot actually turns out decent, two putts from 10 feet, bogey.

3. 115 yard par 3. Set up for a draw, does not draw. Ends up on fringe, 20 feet from the hole. After hitting chip shot 100 feet, third shot is from the rough on the other side of the green. Good chip this time, make bogey.

4. 90 degree dogleg right. Picture perfect layup tee shot. Put it on a postcard. 100 yards in, leave a 9 iron 30 yards short in Oakmont style rough. Full send hack onto the green, routine 3 putt double.

5. Long straight par 4. Good drive, good 3 hybrid to fringe 75 feet away, 3 to get down of course, bogey.

6. Medium straight par 4. Good drive, pretty 5 hybrid about 15 feet left of the flag ... straight into jail. Short sided, pin high in a bunker. Barely enough room for a stance, promptly hit a hosel rocket across the green into another, larger bunker. Against the back lip. Can't deliver the club to the back of the ball. Chip out backwards away from pin into more Oakmont rough, hit a majestic flop to six inches and save a double.

7. Short par 3. Thin a 9 iron to the back of the green to 35 feet. Putt goes 50 feet forward and 15 feet away from the hole, nice touch and nice read jackass. Two putts from there Bogey.

8. Par 5. Solid drive, but it limps into the first cut. Chop it out and forward. Third shot is a full hybrid and for some reason I pull it 45 degrees left of target. Directly behind a small (waist-high) evergreen. Seriously, the only obstacle anywhere in the vicinity and I'm three feet directly behind it. ****. 70 yards to the pin. Try to go over, fail, pitch on and two putt for double.

9. Par 4. I guess the hard pull is going to be a thing, pull the drive. Pull the second shot. Pitch to 10 feet. Yip the putt 15 feet past. Miss a short bogey putt for a fine closing double.

Golf is stupid. At least it is on nights where you have no fine motor control.

thank you for the elaboration, think I need a smoke

Par 70 35/35 5,970 68.4/118

Last time I played here was 14+ years ago on BlackFriday. Walked off after after 9 when I got a text asking, "Have you logged into Stars? When I do, the FBI logo pops up."

83 42/41
4/12 fairways, 9/18 greens
8 pars, 7 bogeys, 3 doubles
1 1-putt, 3 3-whacks. 38 putts.

Scored well (+13 equals my best round of the season) but didn't feel like I hit a lot of good shots. Irons just feel off, and as such I chunked a few irons.

Prudently hit 3h off the tee to take the water out of play on a par 5, only to hit it into the water anyway. Stupid.

Started with 3-putt bogeys on 1 and 3, but only 3-putt once after that.

Sub-80 is coming at some point.

Played the best round of my life today. 18 course handicap, shot 80. I do have one round of 77 but was on a short par 70 pretty easy 9 hole course. Next best score before today was 82.Had an incredible sequence on 8 and 9 of making a 24 foot bird, then a 35 foot eagle over a ridge. Could have actually been a lot better too, had 90 in on 5 and made a grotesque triple, then 102 i

Played this same course for the first time since this 80. Was playing on 3 hours of sleep and had no expectations. Was +6 through 6 with zero GIR. Started getting it going, as well as running good. Par 7, par 8, pour in a 35 foot birdie on 9. Get away with a bad tee shot on par 3 10th, hit an OK chip but 3putt for double. Par 11 after an absolute laser 5w to 9 feet. Bogey 12. Par 13 after an elite up and down from 35 yards. Par 14 after thinning my 3w approach over water, jusssst carried and bounced up to 12 feet. Par 15, almost holed my 50y pitch for eagle. Par 16. Need two pars for 79.

In the previous round here, I hit a horrid tee shot on the par 3 17th and made triple. Here, hit it OK but pulled it and flag is back left. Have 87 feet for birdie. Lag it to 3.5 feet. Can't decide if it breaks left or right and just panicgack it. So need bird on 18 for 79, same as last time. Pull my drive into a fairway bunker. Hit an incredible 5i to 20 feet! Buddy had a putt on the same line as mine and hits it way past. I leave mine 8 inches short in the jar and tap in for another 80 and my second Exceptional Score Adjustment in 3 months. Played the last 12 in +2 with 9/12 GIR.

Played 48 hours later and shot 101 with 7 GIR hahaha, would have said that was impossible. Was +16 on 3 holes.

41-43-84. 2 birdies, 1 double bogey, 1 triple bogey. 68.9/119/6062. Diamond Springs GC in Hamilton, MI.

Pretty decent round. Ball striking was acceptable, only one terrible shot. Chipping and pitching was mediocre but okay. Sand play was trash, triple was the product of needing 3 to get out of a particularly nasty bunker. Double was the result of a WTF lost ball - it was just in medium rough, it wasn't like it was in the junk.

curious the last time you practiced your sand game outside a round?

curious the last time you practiced your sand game outside a round?

Two weeks ago. If I get there early enough on Sundays I can get in some sand practice before my round. Pretty rare that I have an opportunity otherwise.

And I'm being overly critical. On routine sand shots I've been better. I think I only had one of those today and I got up and down. It's the hard ones that are a problem. Bad stance, bad lie, death if I hit it long, whatever.

The one that got me today is a deep (~ 6 feet) greenside bunker. My ball didn't get to the bottom, so I'm trying to execute a shot where the ball is nearly waist-high. The green is about 25 feet across. Anything that doesn't get all the way to the surface rolls back down into the bunker. Anything more than 2 feet over the green is in a ravine and a lost ball. In hindsight I should have tried an entirely different type of shot, probably would have been somewhat away from the hole but maybe a better chance of getting it out of the bunker. May have to test that tomorrow if I can recreate it adequately.

Been a while since had anything worth posting but did this today

If I'm honest I didn't really hit ball amazingly just got it round and made some really good recoveries.

Noteable stuff.

6th is a 420 par 4 into a breeze. Hit a decent drive but then mess up a rescue shot from the fairway. Wedge on a holed a 20 footer.
7th easiest hole 100 yard par 3. Miss it right and short side myself. Tried a little lob shot didn't turn out great and left myself 25 feet. Gave it to much of a run and left myself a smelly putt coming back which I miss.
8th Decent tee shot decent wedge to the green but had 25 feet down the hill and end up 3 putting.

9th decent birdie holed a 15 footer.
10th holed a 30 footer for birdie.
11th hit tee shot on this mound. Had about 100 left in on a pretty big slope downhill lie out the rough, Got it to around 20 feet a holed the birdie putt.

12th Par 5. We waited about 10mins on the tee on a tee shot I hate so wasn't ideal. Ended up topping it 50 yards. I hit a 4 iron down the fairway. I think I must of had about 240 to a back pin. Pull 4 iron again. I have to hit a draw as the direct route is guarded by bunkers I can't carry. The group in front are still putting out. Not thinking I'd get anywhere near them and to give them a kick up the ass if I did (We know them). I've hit the perfect shot and run it to the back right of the green leaving myself about 35 feet. 2 putt for a good par.

15th Par 5. Like the 12th I hit a bad tee shot this time with a 4 iron which was a duck hook. Got to my ball in the semi rough way back and I have about 225 to get to the 150 marker. Hit a good 4 iron and leave myself about 170 to the pin. Hit a good 6 iron to pin high and have about 20 feet for birdie 2 putt for a good par though.

18th ending with a couple of good shots. To leave myself 5 feet for the birdie.

may not have played well but you sure scored well
nice work UA1, what was your net (still off a 14.5?)
keep playing those 5s like 3s 😃

This track is fairly easy I only get 5 around here but you still got to get the ball in the hole at the end of the day.

Played this 72 (36/36) 6160yds 70.2/129 once 2 months ago and shot 92

Overcast and 70 with light winds 5-10mph

92 46/46
7 pars, 4 bogeys, 5 doubles and 2 triples.
6/14 fairways, 3/18 greens.
7 1-putts, 2 3-putts. 31 putts all day.
Most of my 1-putts were due to brilliant chips within 2 feet. That part of my game has improved a great deal. Made 1 long (15 foot) putt all day. Still stink with the putter, but I am better than I was.
Can't seem to hit my irons well now. Missing the center of the club face constantly.
Finished a frustrating double, triple on the last 2 holes after hitting tee shots on both into the hazard.

42-40-82. 2 birdies, 2 double bogeys. 70.3/133/6131.

Ball striking okay after a shaky start. Short game okay. Putter got hot midway thru. Made a 12 footer for birdie on 6. Nearly made - as in missed by an inch - a 30 footer on 7. Saved par with a 10 footer on 8. Felt confident the whole rest of the round.

Also a better day out of the sand. Technically 1 for 2 on sand saves, but it felt like 2/2 - one was completely buried in the face of the bunker, at least 90% of the ball was below the surface. Got it out so main mission accomplished but couldn't hold the green, great chip coming back for a tap in bogey.

Played Torrey Pines both courses this weekend.

Saturday: South Course. From green tees, 6600 Yds 73.3/134. Shot 51-48 for a 99. $306 for non-resident green fee, plus $50 reservation fee.

Highlights included a 20 foot putt for par on the 1st, and hitting to 6 feet out of the second greenside bunker on 13, a 35 yard shot that was 20 feet above my head. Just opened up the 46 degree wedge and hit it hard!

Lowlights included struggling with driver all day, and three quads (ESC 7s) from greenside bunkers. Sand was wet and firm and I just couldn't get myself to hit down into the sand. Some bad results there.

Differential 21.7.

Sunday: North Course. From green tees, 6300 Yds 71.5/125. Shot 46-44 for a 90. $195 for non-resident green fee, plus $50 reservation fee.

This course is easier than the South course. There are fewer bunkers and the ravine is in play on fewer holes. But it's not to be slept on. The back 9 in particular is just as dramatic and cool as anything on the South course.

Managed to hit only one greenside bunker and got down in 3 shots from there so that was another reason the score was better. Also was able to hit driver way better, hitting 5 fairways and leading to 8GIR. Couldn't really make any putts all day, unfortunately. And I 4 putted 18 from 90 feet for a double. But I can't complain.

Differential 16.7 on Sunday, pulls GHIN down to 19.8 (first time sub-20 in my life).

Also, the lodge at torrey pines is super nice and charming, highly recommend.

Par 72 36/36 70.3 124 6200 yard course.

9th round here this year.

85 39/46
5/14 fairways, 6/18 greens.
4 1-putts, 3 3-putts 35 putts total (15 putts on the front, 20 on the back)
1 birdie, 5 pars, 10 bogeys and 2 doubles.
Knocked it to within a foot on 9 for birdie to break 40 for the first time. (I hope to break 40 at least 3 times this year, and 80 once.)

Hit my irons a bit better, but still feel off with them. Wedges are great. Putting stinks. Hit 2 awful lags that led to 3-whacks. Missed several from 5-8 feet.

Best round of the year, but still feel like I left several shots out there. Played the last 4 +6.

Play a new place tomorrow.

New course.

Par 71 35/36 6,000 yards 69.2/124

87 42/45
8/14 fairways, 9/18 greens.
1 birdie, 5 pars, 8 bogeys, 3 doubles and a triple.

Started even thru 4, but then exploded. 4 3-putt bogeys. 36 putts all day.

Back to my “home” course tomorrow.

41 (par 36). No birdies, no double bogeys.

Tuesday golf so it wasn't exactly pretty but there were enough decent shots to be encouraged. Did manage to only have 4s and 5s on the card.

Did manage to only have 4s and 5s on the card.

Sounds amazing

Par 70 35/35 5,970 68.4/118

2nd time here this year. 73, sunny and calm. Perfect.

85 (46/39)

4/12 fairways, 10/18 greens
8 pars, 6 bogeys, 3 doubles and a triple.
2 1-putts, 4 3-putts. 38 putts total.

3 3-putt bogeys, one from 10 feet (shown below). Brutal.

Sub-40 on a par 35 feels dirty, but I'll take it.

by TheBigEasy m

Par 72 (35/37) 70/129 6,200 yards

Low 80s and sunny with varying winds from 5-15mph. Wind was a factor on nearly every hole.
87 41/46
6/14 fairways, 6/18 greens
1 birdie, 4 pars, 10 bogeys, 3 doubles
2 1-putts, 6 3-whacks. 40 putts all day. 3 3-putt bogeys.

Played with a 2 handicap who commented how absurd some of the pins were. He had a several 3 putts also so I'm cutting myself some slack, but I still missed 2-3 many 5-6 footers.

Birdie was on a par 5 where I missed the eagle putt and had 3 feet left.

Didn't have a single penalty shot or lose a ball. Gave away several shots. (3 total spazzchunk irons/wedges and a tee shot that dribbled 40 yards.)

This is a tough course, so it was probably my best round this year. Sub 80 is coming.

really positive direction easy, fun to read your progress

Scramble today. We shot 64, good for a middle of the pack finish. One team in the 50s ran away with it. Not sure we could have done a whole lot better - I made a 50 footer all the way across the green on 18 and also made a 25 footer on 13. No bogeys, never in any serious danger.

did the score result from any wacky fundraising stroke shaving gimmick like buying string and mulligans or was it just a simple foursome playing best shot from each guy
