Hard to fly with a medieval pavilion full of furniture, a week's supply of medieval clothes, a suit of armor, and a golf bag of weapons.

Glad the surgery went well, and you were able to get through all that craziness.

Feeling rather proud of my bodge job of a lawnmower repair this evening. My riding lawnmower had one of the blades come loose when I hit a lump last week, and when I tried to tighten it down, I discovered that the little star-shaped fitting on the spindle had broken, making it impossible to get the blade to stay tight.

So tonight I drove the thing up a ramp to get the front wheels on the porch stairs and jacked up the back and put some pavers under the wheels. Then I dragged out my mig welder and added some welds to rebuild (roughly) the star fitting, and then my dremel and some diamond bits to file it into shape. Worked like a charm, and saved me the huge job of taking apart the mower and replacing the whole spindle. Now we'll see how long it lasts.

Husband and wife I play cards with both played the Seniors. At one point yesterday, she was up to something like 15th place. Looking forward to hearing tales from the WSOP from them.

Two cashes, one a min (him), one went pretty deep but before the pay jumps got serious (her). Still, a very nice score. Happy for them, though I'm sure they're disappointed in the moment.

I often come back from a vacation wondering if I would have enjoyed myself more just staying at home (but I have an awesome day-to-day life). Obviously sucky circumstances in your particular case, but overall in general I personally feel travel is a bit overrated.

i'm house/dogsitting for a friend

skipping a long and complex back story, while i could have declined the request, it would have been really awkward to do so

the dog is young but not a puppy and not yet fully trained so if unwatched still has the occasional accident - if you leave the house without crating her, she will 100% go potty in the house and destroy some thing so she has to be crated whenever left home alone

family has a rule that dog can't be left alone for more than 4 hours at a time, twice i argued that this was an unnecessary rule that severely impacted my work and dating life (especially with no overnights) and they insisted that the dog would have a mental breakdown if left alone overnight or even for more than 4 hours during the day

and again, they gave me an out where they could hire someone to come over some of the days to watch the dog (they'll be gone a week) but again that felt incredibly awkward so i said i could handle it

am i losing my mind here or are these requests bonkers?

Been back in Canada less than 36 hours after 8 day trip to Germany so that the youngest breeze can compete at world championships. Jet lagged still but happy.

I would have clarified exactly what the dog sitting entailed before agreeing to it. It's their dog, so it's their right to set the rules, just as it's your right to accept or reject the position based on those rules.

Personally, we would never leave our dog alone overnight. And while I'm sure my wife/I have left our dog alone for more than 4 hours, it typically isn't much more than that if we can help it (I doubt we've done more than 8 hours), plus she has the run of a lot of the house (she was only crated for a bit as a puppy).

We just back from a vacation ourselves (left June 15, returned June 26). One of my stepdaughters housesat plus brought her two dogs so at least they all had company when she was out. So our dog was fine. But our cat (who was looked after with regards to litter/food/water) didn't get much socialization (which she mostly just gets from me) and was incredibly happy to see me come home. We'll leave our cat alone with enough litter/food/water for like upwards of 4 or 5 nights for our camping trips a few times a year; while she seems to get by ok I'll admit do feel a bit bad about it.

We flew in/out of Frankfurt on our way to/from Greece. The weather / lushness of Germany (at least from what I saw from the air) appealed to me a lot more than what I saw of Greece (apart from the oceanside).

Welcome back, thread. Congrats to PrairieJR. Rick, I'm with the others, it may be excessive worry, but if it's more than you can handle, say no, even if it's awkward. Can't you bring your girl over to their place with you after date? Maybe give their ring cam something to think about...

I've been in mad riding mower repair land lately. Everything I fix reveals a new problem. Now that I'd replaced basically everything on the deck, I think I'm GTG, but with my luck the serpentine belt will break now.
