I could MAYBE buy it for the PPC but after winning that no way he wouldn't have most of himself for the main and what he didn't have would just be swaps.

I mean if it's true, his PPC win is only worth ~90k before tax. Have heard from some people in the HS world that have more or less confirmed these rumours, and someone in the reddit thread about this says they got confirmation from one of his backers (and listed several backers)

Voted, 16% for PS, at least more than ACR.

PS needs a real champ for a change.

it is my understanding mizrachi is not necessarily part of the new age GTO theory/robot school of poker, he leans way more toward the good ole fashioned, exploitative, play-the-player-not-the-hand type of true grinder........if so, natural question: does grinder's win prove that the old school form of poker is not dead, and that the GTO/robot/theory school cannot claim dominanc

Interesting timing....

WSOP bans laptops and cracks down on cloud-based assistance (following the John Tamayo incident), and the very next year, an established pro takes down the Main Event.

he's also known for being a degen. even if (and this is a huge if) all he got was 90k now way he wouldn't have all of himself in the main less some small swaps. guys like him aren't wired that way.

His main event action could have been sold as part of his wsop package and despite winning PPC, owed his backer(s) whatever % per the deal. Agreed that it would be hard to believe he sold much at all after the PPC win if he wasn't bound by such an agreement, as pure of a degenerate as he is.

Jungleman wins it twice:“One of the best of all time proves poker is a game of skill. Over 5 days of playing the best in the world in all games and coming out as a winner solidifies his legacy”Grinder wins it 4 times:“Winning it that many times has to be luck, no other way to explain it!”

so you think his expectation is winning it 1 time in 4?Wanna take 10-1 odds on him winning

I suspect that it’s not your intention, but your posts are absolutely coming across as diminishing Mizrachi’s accomplishments. People who are far, far, far better poker players than anyone here have expressed absolute awe at the Grinder’s body of work. Those stone legends didn’t just vote to immediately induct him into the HoF. They showed up on the stage to congratulate him. You think Ivey and Rast and Hennington are showing up if they don’t think this is warranted? Schulman getting choked up at the accomplishment? Any win in any tournament involves a lot of run good. You are right about that. But Mizrachi is an all-time crusher. There’s no need for “yeah but” after that statement. He’s a legend. His peers agree with that assessment.

If the Grinder really only had 20% of himself I kinda feel bad for the guy. After taxes he won like a million dollars

Some guy online claims it’s a rumor. Offers no sourcing at all. So a second-hand report of an alleged rumor. How would anyone even know? People seem really motivated to diminish one of the most incredible things we’ve ever seen in tournament poker.

He's a great player and it's a snap no brainer to induct him in the hof. But do we really have to pretend he didn't also run well above expectation? I mean by definition randomly some people will run way above ev in live tournaments bc tournaments are so top heavy and the sample size is so low. Yet people act like stating this is a knock on him. In the main he won 1,000 buy ins. I'll let the stats wizards figure out how far above expectation that is on the bell curve.

If he busts in 24th or if any of the other 5 or 6 all ins he won in a row for his tournament life go the other way does that make him a worse player?

The fact of the matter is when people have extreme outlier results in live tournaments the main factor is being on the extremely right side of variance. A total **** player might have a 50 percent ROI in the main and let's even say he has a 500 percent ROI long term- well his luck factor still outpaced the skill factor exponentially. Do we have to pretend last year Tomayo played better than everyone? I bet a quarter of the field played as good or better than that cheating nerd. He just ran the best.

I expect most people on here to understand the role variance plays in these things- not so much with people commenting on youtube.

Does it really diminish anything? It's come up in the thread as a rumor which on its own may be worth nothing, but does get a boost when he's had financial struggles in the past despite have many mega scores. Being tight with Chino and openly living that degen lifestyle (not knocking it) doesn't exactly pour water on those rumors. Regardless, given his recent achievements he's the most talked about guy in poker so of course all things good and bad will be discussed. People mentioning his proclivities to degeneracy are in good fun too (see all the Spearmint Rhino posts) and people are curious if he got the whole 10 mega.

As far as most incredible things, how does it rank with say Greg Merson winning the $10k 6 max with 500 runners a week before winning the main? Maybe has less pedigree then the PPC, but far from the least prestigious tournaments in the series. If Glasser won a 4th bracelet this year or Seiver the same last year, would that also knock down the HOF door and invoke instant induction? How about 5?

I think Grinders run this summer is insane and deserves the accolades its receiving, no question. But I do feel some are a bit of a prisoner of the moment.

He was probably making hall of fame next year even with no main event cash but a 24th place finish would have further secured it.

I get and respect what you’re saying. But how is that different from any player with multiple rings? I guess the question is, do you believe Mizrachi has run any purer than, say, Rast or Siever?

FWIW, I DO think Mizrachi’s style makes him more likely to win tournaments than similarly skilled players. I think it also makes him more likely to bust than similarly skilled players. He clearly doesn’t care about ICM. He wants to win and he’s willing to bust to do accumulate chips in spots that others would either pass on or play smaller. I think it overall makes him very difficult to deal with.

To reiterate: I am not arguing with your point that no one gets through 10,000 runners without running pure. My point is that I don’t think he’s run any purer than other legendary tournament players.

by PeteBlow

If you want to go down that route, every live player’s sample size is ‘lol’.
The online generation seem to believe that both giving and noticing tells aren’t a thing of significance. Yet they are so desperate to be robotic and cover every inch of flesh.

I never said tells don’t matter. And I never even said MM’s sample size is too small to declare him a great player. My only claim is that one WSOP ME win by a player who isn’t a poster child for GTO means almost nothing about the relative merits of one approach to poker over another. And anyone claiming otherwise can’t be arguing in good faith.

by BringBackMo

My point is that I don’t think he’s run any purer than other legendary tournament players.

Let me begin by saying that I don't have anything disparaging to say about Mizrachi's poker playing.

But has anyone ever survived as many all-in's as an underdog ?

Jamie Gold ran pure. McKeehen ran pure. But they piled up a ton of chips AFTER flopping well.

To me, this run is an unparalleled example of running good against the odds en route to become ME champion. Grinder was destiny's child in this event coming from a 3BB stack with 24 remaining. He took the risks and they paid off when it mattered.

I'm happy for him.

I totally agree with this. And I'm glad he won instead of some gto tank bot.

Not sure how someone compiles this and forgets the 2023 Main Event where Daniel Weinman won $12,100,000, an amount cynically manufactured by the WSOP to erase Jamie Gold from being the winner of the biggest main event.

Daniel also finished 173rd in 2021 for total Main Event earnings of $12,144,200.

It might be an interesting debate whether the Main Event field in the 1980s is tougher than the Ladies Event field in 2025.

I'd bet on the ladies

I wanna know how they settled on 7% for the PPC.

“Mikey Babes, I love you, but you’re a sick busted out degenerate. I can only go 5%.”

**** you, I’ve won it three ****ing times! That’s worth 15, easy!

“Hey Mike, if it’s so easy why are YOU calling ME?”

That's a pretty big fail. Looks like we can safely ignore anything from that source for the rest of eternity. Way to destroy your brand.

As far as the ME field in the 1980s, it was a different style of play. It was mostly high stakes pros, but NLHE tournament play was not so developed. Not sure if some grinder from today could crush it.

They might not have the discipline to check the nuts three times.

One just did.

The irony is that the truly skilled players are the daily cash game grinders. If they are making a profit over a long period of time they are probably good at what they do. If a tournament player makes the final table or wins a tournament they got really lucky. Tournament pros are the most overrated "pros" in any sport or game out there. When Moneymaker won some smart entrepreneurs figured out a way to artificially make tournament poker a thing. They encouraged individuals to be jerks so they had villains. If you are into tournament poker I'll bet you are a big fan of the WWE. These people know who too target in their marketing. The only reason people are goo goo for "Grinder" is because he is the first person to win this tournament in many years who people know and they like his nick name.

Feel like if you win the Main Event and the PPC in the same year you should automatically win Player of the Year
